I often think how different the ARTPOP campaign could have gone with Gypsy as either the lead or the second single. To think Venus and GUY were even in contention is bizarre. It would have probably fared better against Roar as well.

A dizzy twister dance

| 10 // Just Dance // The Fame // 8.83

The Lady's first ever single starts the official top 10. Just Dance showcases the perfect way to make an entrance. It introduced the world to the megastar and kickstarted her career in supreme style. With the help of Akon and Colby O'Donis, and 10 minutes of writing time, she proved that even the most simple of ideas could relate to people world wide and create a culture of happiness and fun all for a love of music and dance. Although it took its time, the song eventually became a monster hit across the globe, peaking at #1 in multiple countries and becoming one of the best-selling singles of all time, with sales of over 10 million copies. A fun, vibrant video featuring Gaga in a haus party going crazy for her music, she was an enigma of sorts but totally captivating. Grammy nominated too, she proved that she could make an almighty smash and this was just the beginning...

This

She was listening to her super fans who wanted those strange songs released. Imagine Venus being a single!!

Gypsy should have been released first, switching back to it when Applause leaked so no pop emergency. Then, Do What U Want with Christina and what's his face versions, with NO rape video, gawd what was happening that era, then Applause as 3rd single, finish with ARTPOP.

This actually makes a lot of sense lmao. I wish the era had gone like this even though Applause is NOT THE ONE.

What about Sexxx Dreams and GUY though :( we luh them too

Make them into huge set pieces on tour and as promo songs! Same with Venus - play it up on tour for the fans, not the general public.

| 09 // Paparazzi // The Fame // 8.85

Another from the debut drops out, this time Paparrazi. The 3rd/4th single depending on where you were in the world, and one that was significantly more low-key than the songs that surrounded it. But not wanting to be overshadowed by those, this one came with the highest budget music video of the era - the first of many EPICS. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, it tells the story of Gaga, a doomed star, almost murdered by her husband and hounded on by the press. But not content with sitting down and doing nothing, she enacts her revenge. It is a dark, masterpiece that perfectly reveals the cost of fame. Going on to win two VMAs - where she also performed it with T H A T performance, it became yet another gigantic hit for her. Top 10 across the globe and remembered very favourably even today, it's an eternally relevant song for Gaga, having moved on to evolve in meaning for many fans.

I wish I could be strong without somebody there

| 08 // Scheiße // Born This Way // 9.09

The second greatest Gaga album track according to you guys, Scheiße is not here for ANY type of bullshit. Teaming up with RedOne, written in Europe and inspired by dingy, crazy clubs across Europe, this song is a complete moment. Unique in her back-catalogue and totally and utterly deranged. Pounding synths, techno beats, electrowaves, disco vibes - it has it ALL and then some. All of these sounds are catapulted for the entire length of the song and made totally more crazed by Gaga's vocals. Featuring a chorus sung in fake-German gibberish, she tells of female empowerment and feminism in its most in your face way possible. She wants a female that doesn't take any bullshit, that stands up for herself, that is strong and independent and true to her word, the song is empowering and as ferocious as can be. Gaga stated that she wanted it to be her single, but her label did not want it to reach the total public eye and so it was rejected - one of the few times where Gaga did not get her way in terms of her artistic decisions. Critically appreciated and a firm fan favourite for many, it continues to grow and remain a highlight of her career. Of course it fits in perfectly with the theme of its parent album and is still relevant to her fans today (shown by the fact it was performed at her latest tour!). It was also the opener of her Coachella set and shows just how long-standing a gem this song is. Totally crazy and in your face, it is Gaga at her MOST Gaga and we live for it.

Amazing video, second only to Bad Romance. The song is ok. It is WAAAAY overhyped on hur.

Yass at ScheiBe beating it!!

Paparazzi did better than I thought, it always seemed to me one of those songs forgotten (relatively!!) by stans and the GP. that chorus is absolute pop perfection  these averages are some of the highest I've ever seen in a rate, what a discography *.*

| 07 // Marry The Night // Born This Way // 9.13

The fifth and final single to be released from Born This Way, and the album opener, Marry The Night is a glistening, stunning, daring pop song. Inspired by some of her earlier works and Gaga's love of her home town, the song is an ode to owning your darkness, accepting your flaws and living through the shadows that try to envelop you. The song's music video tells of Gaga's struggles after being dropped from her former record label, Def Jam Recordings, health issues, her strive for perfection and the love for her home and family. It's another epic (her longest) and culminates in her setting fire to the street around her and readying herself to OWN her life. The song for me is Gaga at her very best: the glittery instrumental, the soaring chorus, the gigantic vocals, the frantic rush of emotions. It mad a splash on charts across the globe, but so late into the campaign it didn't really set the world on fire as it should have. Perhaps if it was released earlier, it could've been a signature song, but alas it remains a brilliant, bold moment of sheer glory in her catalogue. We stan.

| 06 // Do What U Want // ARTPOP // 9.20

Just missing out on the top 5 is the 2nd single taken from Gaga's 4th album. Shrouded in controversy, Do What You Want is still making the headlines to this day (Onika, what's good?). Featuring guest vocals by R. Kelly and tackling a subject matter of sexual submission, it has a strong message that no matter what one does to her body, she still has her thoughts, her mind and her voice. It's a deeply personal song that delves into dark moments of Gaga's past and she presents it in a fierce and ferocious manner. The song became a hit of sorts (after some silly chart rules prevented it from charting initially in the UK) and later came re-done with Xtina shrieking on vocals. The planned music video was scrapped due to "unknown circumstances" but if rumours are to be believed - the video was going to be extremely controversial and took some aspects of song's lyrics very literally). Still she provided some show stopping live performances and it has gone on to become a very well liked and respected single - as shown through its performance here! Next up, top 5 ~

Wow, wasn't expecting that to be so high. I do quite like it but it's not all that.

Scheiße making top 10 though

Great to see "Do What U Want" and "Scheiße" so high here! The latter has been one of her biggest growers ever for me!
