Yeah i've seen him live about 4 times now at various festivals and he's very humble. On twitter and in videos and other media he comes across as quirky and not afraid to take the p!ss out of himself too so the smug comments are just bizarre

George Ezra is such a refreshing musician, not smug in any way. He’s like what Ed Sheeran thinks he is.
Even leaving aside his personality I fail to see how one can have a smug tone to their singing voice?

Was your auto corrects changing "soul" to "smug" or something?!? I don't get it.

I'm not a fan of his music (well, I don't dislike it, it just doesn't grab me enough to take full interest), but he definitely doesn't seem to be smug to me

You can dislike someone when they're not smug or arrogant. You don't have to scrape the barrel to try and justify your reasonings for disliking them. Lmao. But eh. Whatevs. It really feels like everyone is "smug" or "arrogant" nowadays.

This is ok. As I said above, his music is nice enough to listen to, it just doesn't pull me in enough to invest in either him or his songs. Just nice to have on in the background, which is refreshing in some ways.

definitely zero smug

but Im amazed you enjoyed him live, I saw him live 0nce and he was flat as a pancake, waa doing nothing with the songs, was like if he was playing the cd and doing karaoke, and he didn't have any stage presence at all, I remember seeing Tom odell at the same time, who really has stage presence and commands his band, ezra was very flat but that was in the very beginning of his careeer, maybe he's getting better

Does anyone else find this basic but so good at the same time?

Totally agree. I will be thrilled if he can achieve his first number 1 single this week.

Yep this sums it up for me! It's basic but it's SO bloody good for the summer, it's such a breezy carefree pop song that strikes the right chord for the weather right now and isn't trying to be anything more. He's writing great, fairly simple pop that completely suits him and is one of the best artists around rn for that reason.

Never thought George would be the one to get two number 1 singles in a row in 2018

Paradise peaked at #2 :P

I preferred 'Paradise' out of the two but they're both really good, very pleased to see him hopefully on course for a first #1 this week.

the singles pattern x this album is crazy

1st single #66, 2nd single #2, 3rd single #1

has there ever been a pattern like this? with a proper 1st single, no buzz, proper single with airplay, video, even spotify airplay

I can only think back in the day, with Sinead o'connor's 2nd album

the first single Jump in the river, totally flopped, at #81, but then the 2nd single was Nothing compares 2 U

This

And waay more talented than that contrived puppet

I'd imagine Dua & Anne-Marie have similar rises in success. In fact, it seems to be the norm for this new batch of popstars tbh. Which is why it always baffles me when people are so quick to label things a flop nowadays.

I remember when everyone thought George would flop massively due to his song performing poorly. I guess if this was 2015 he would have had a sophomore slump, but I feel like it's hard to indicate a stars success nowadays on the back of one flop.

Ofc there are current exceptions (James Bay for example) but I think that's more down to the fact it's such a difference in sound for what people liked from him as an artist.

I bought one of the Spotify exclusive 7" picture discs a few weeks ago - only just got round to listening to it this weekend, but the B-side 'Reinvent The Sky' (which is only available on this release) is brilliant, very in keeping with the rest of the album. Pleased to see this has become the anthem of this summer!

Surely that title belongs to One Kiss :P
