With slight apologies to Espen, Holland-Oats, Terra Avium and Fljótavík as they have been given a slight penalty to give more precedence to brand new discoveries. Having said that, I didn't actually realise 'So Easy' was a song I already knew, and I had no idea it was by Röyksopp, so it was nice to be reminded of that one! The top two are both properly incredible and it was very hard to separate them but ultimately in the battle of #foreignbloc vs. #instrumentalbloc, it was #foreignbloc winning out this time, with Quintessa's absolute stormer of a Finnish rock track, certainly didn't expect that to sound anything like it did but what a tune. Silver medal went to Lotunia with a gorgeous new age track, I've never actually heard their Eurovision winner but I'm gonna have to check it out if this is anything to go by! And Espen still got our bronze, we can't bear to put the majestic 'Saltwater' any lower than that. Elsewhere, The Knife, Air and Death Cab For Cutie all lived up to our hopes of high quality, while we were pretty shocked to hear an actual good song from We The Kings. Other points go to a pair of ethnobops from Tata Young (written by the same guy behind 'Love Mera Hit Hit'!!) and Arash, the host nation's Darude track that was pleasingly only slightly a clone of 'Sandstorm', a good UKG throwback from Wookie and a mealworm point to Elsiane with a song that would probably grow on us if we had time to listen more than once.
