Greece had an absolutely rock solid defence that tournament, not a single goal conceded in the knockout rounds iirc! And at least they 'won' their matches unlike Portugal who relied on draws & penalty wins.

Irrespective of that I still think they were rightful champions!

Iran have played well, probably better than Portugal in that half, so its a pity they have gone behind but it was a stunning goal!

Quaresma is quality, if he had a better attitude he could have played for an elite club!

Iran are actually a decent enough team and have been unlucky to have been in a group with Spain and Portugal.

Portugal have often been too slow in that first half, I know it is very warm there but they do need to speed up a bit with the passing. Maybe they are overpassing as the commentators hinted at.

In fairness to Iran a lot of their players are playing in Europe these days!
Mark Lawrenson's commentary during the Iran Vs Portugal match is still as funny as ever
I'm sorry, I do like the introduction of VAR but it needs to be looked at. HOW that was given as a penalty I will never know. No i'm not mad that I had 1-0 Portugal I promise.
Didn't watch the Spain vs Morocco match, but Spain must have played poorly to struggle so much against an already relegated side.

Bloody hell that was amazing to watch. I had the Portugal match on my TV & the Spain match on the laptop and they were both very dramatic matches. I didn't know which screen to look at!

I'm not massive on VAR but it certainly made the games so good to watch tonight.

I think VAR's been great, it's given the match an extra feeling of tension which has generally worked well. It certainly needs work to make it more effective, but I think it's certainly making it a lot more entertaining (especially for someone like me who doesn't give a monkeys about premier league football outside of internationals :kink:)

Unlucky end for Morocco, good on them for going out on a high though. Pleasing to see Portugal against Uruguay, won't be as easy for them to fluke their way through that!

I have absolutely loved Iran, was dying for them to score that chance at the end, especially after Ronaldo had missed that penalty. I love how they just shithouse their way through games, winding up their opponents, which given some on Portugal and Spain's sides has been a taste of their own medicine. A great addition to the tournament.

Of the three calls that went to VAR I thought the one that was most likely was the one he bottle giving, in sending Ronaldo off. That was more a red card than the two penalty calls were penalties.

Agreed, I'd actually thought they'd scored for a minute (watching at work). Portugal stepped up the theatrics and really were quite shambolic at times, great that they now have to face Uruguay instead of Russia - with any justice they'll be despatched quite comprehensively now.

Iran and Morocco have both been really good and also unlucky in this World Cup, they're probably two of the best teams to be knocked out in a group stage. 5 points seems like a really low points tally to win a group with which just goes to show how good Iran and Morocco have been, I'm sure most people (myself included) expected Spain and Portugal to both have at least 6 points and for the winner of their match to have maximum points. This World Cup has been quite unpredictable so far!

Iran have certainly exceeded expectations from what people expected from them. Just unfortunate they came up against Spain and Portugal in their group.
