These are both way too short, both of them sound more like interludes than full songs, same as with '2021'. Fine for them to be on the album but surely there must be better choices to be put out as singles? I am liking 'Sunflower' quite a bit but it needs to be twice as long as it is!

I'd say that if a band are releasing an album with so many songs then a significant proportion need to be short!

I love Harmony Hall and 2021 is decent but thought the new two were terrible upon first listen.

Final two singles releasing on Thursday!

Some album tracks + details about them have also been leaked:

’Hold You Now’ - album opener; described as 'gorgeous’ and 'folky’ and has a choral sample from 'The Thin Red Line’ (a co-writing credit for Hans Zimmer)

’Married in a Gold Rush’ - a 'lush country duet’ with Danielle Haim (features the line 'we got married in a gold rush / but the rush never felt the same’)

’We Belong Together’ - also features Danielle Haim; described as 'gushing’ and 'an anthem that offers the line “Keats and Yeats/Bowls and plates” yet somehow isn’t annoying’

’Unbearably White’ - “'Infighting among white people about who is marginally more or less white is not particularly interesting,’ Koenig shrugs. Is that what that song is about? 'There’s an aspect of it.’”

’Jerusalem, New York, Berlin’ - album closer; described as the song 'set for most scrutiny’ on the album. 'The song seems sad, featuring perhaps the first reference in pop to the Balfour Declaration.’

Love This Life!

Same, although they're both great.

I shouldn't have been so worried about this album because they haven't lost it at all.

"This Life" is absolutely fantastic, was worried as I wasn't keen on last month's new songs, but it's really wonderful. Not as wonderful as "Harmony Hall", but I think any song will struggle to beat that one this year.
I'm actually liking 'Unbearably White' more out of these two which seems to be an unpopular opinion! These are both good though, probably the 2nd and 3rd best of the pre-album songs after 'Harmony Hall'.

After just the one listen, I'm impressed with the album. Even the songs I was less keen on when they were released over the last few weeks sound better in the context of the whole album.
Really enjoying the album as well. There's some surprising songs on it, especially the ones with more country influences, although there's of course more typical VW songs like "This Life" as well. Also, reading the credits of the album, it feels like it's more of an Ezra Koenig solo album in terms of who's involved - obviously Rostam has left the band although still has a few credits, and the two Chris's aren't featured as heavily.

liking this very much, find it very folk-ish in places

never been a VW fans, I liked the old stuff, everybody likes A Punk or Cousins, but never was a massive fan, but now for the first time I'm really enjoying an album of theirs

Really enjoying this... as above Sympathy really grabbed me on first few listens, absolutely love the jazzy instrumental breakdown part! Harmony Hall remains excellent and the duets with Danielle are a nice change of approach too. The rest has to completely gel with me but nothing seemed bad at all.

The first comment sums up why I've always loved Vampire Weekend. They take their influences form all over the place. That ought to result in a mess, but VW somehow mange to make it sound great.

this album  love the the sunny folky pop sound, the guitar melodies, this is giving me everything i need right now (the amount of danielle haim is also pleasing) Sympathy, Married In a Gold Rush and Bambina probs the highlights from the ones i hadn't yet heard

I'm so glad they didn't lose it with this album. Such a bright album and full of life.

That breakdown at the end of Sympathy!

Hmm I gave this a listen and have no real desire to give it another one. There's probably a decent normal length album in there but I dont think I can be bothered to find it.

I think so too. It is actually a really good one, but I've listened to it a bunch of times and I think it is growing on me.

My main criticism is it’s length. There are some good songs in there so all it needs is some trimming.
