I think it was a #31 hit in 2020 :P But nice to get a total!

A million within a couple of years I assume?

Getting that million seller with a random b-side :cheeseblock:

I think the different markets says a lot it's nearly ten years difference and Cher made #5 this week on 8k which is incredibly low really for Xmas week. I'd be interested to know what Kylie's sales were when it peaked at #12? I also don't see Christmas going Gold unless she re-promotes it for several years with re-releases, new covers etc unlike Kylie is on 170k, plus Santa Baby being nearly 900k even if it has only peaked at #31.

I have to say though Cher's promo for this album has been utter killer, she has smashed it.

Here's the Top 20 from Kylie Christmas' release week!

93,189 - NEW / 01 - MADE IN THE AM - ONE DIRECTION

90,596 - NEW / 02 - PURPOSE - JUSTIN BIEBER

68,825 - 01 / 03 - IF I CAN DREAM - ELVIS PRESLEY

61,497 - NEW / 04 - ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE - JEFF LYNNE'S ELO

32,989 - 02 / 05 - GET WEIRD - LITTLE MIX

23,777 - 09 / 06 - I CRY WHEN I LAUGH - JESS GLYNNE

22,567 - 04 / 07 - ANOTHER COUNTRY - ROD STEWART

21,854 - NEW / 08 - ROMAN HOLIDAY - ANDRE RIEU & JOHANN STRAUSS OR

19,679 - 08 / 09 - X - ED SHEERAN

18,130 - NEW / 10 - BEN HAENOW - BEN HAENOW

16,541 - 05 / 11 - 1 - BEATLES

15,881 - NEW / 12 - KYLIE CHRISTMAS - KYLIE MINOGUE

13,940 - 03 / 13 - DELIRIUM - ELLIE GOULDING

13,555 - 06 / 14 - A YEAR OF SONGS - ALEXANDER ARMSTRONG

11,702 - 07 / 15 - IN THE LONELY HOUR - SAM SMITH

11,567 - 11 / 16 - CINEMA - ANDREA BOCELLI

10,472 - NEW / 17 - NIGHTBIRD - EVA CASSIDY

6,894 - 28 / 18 - RATTLE THAT LOCK - DAVID GILMOUR

6,685 - 19 / 19 - CHAOS AND THE CALM - JAMES BAY

6,675 - 20 / 20 - COMMUNION - YEARS & YEARS

Annoyingly just one week earlier, the #10 required 10,515 copies, while #9 sold 12,399 and #8 - 13,283 (in theory #8 is the position Kylie Christmas could have peaked at had it been released in this week instead).

Kylie Christmas sales after that week:

Week 2 - #31 - 7,032

Week 3 - #26 - 12,386

Week 4 - #18 - 20,948

Week 5 - #22 - 16,000+ (As far as I can tell the sales for this week weren't revealed back then, but subtracting all the other weekly sales from the Week 7 total leaves 16k+ for this week)

Week 6 - #20 - 27,000+ (According to an old thread in the chart forum)

Week 7 - #91 - 2,248 [Total at this point: 101,949]

We can see that it managed three weeks of higher sales than what it achieved in its first week. Gold in just 7 weeks despite its positions being (in numerical order) 12/18/20/22/26/31/91.

I truly miss when albums could sell that much at lower positions! This week's #1 album sold 16,460... yet in 2015, Kylie had to sell 27k+ to even make it to #20 in Christmas week.

This is how many copies other albums in the Christmas Week 2015 chart sold:

1 Adele 449,870

2 Elvis Presley 173,468

3 Justin Bieber 140,919

4 Coldplay 123,393

5 Jess Glynne 88,150

6 Little Mix 70,525

7 Jeff Lynne's ELO 59,653

8 One Direction 57,046

9 Rod Stewart 54,166

10 Olly Murs 44,820

12 Michael Buble 39,011

13 Enya 32,468

(+ all of the Top 40 sold over 10,000 - whereas only three albums have sold 10k+ in Christmas Week 2023 chart)

Here are the Kylie Christmas weekly sales from 2016:

Week 8 - #165 - 799 [Total at this point: 104,482]

Week 9 - #127 - 1,089

Week 10 - #122 - 1,346

Week 11 - #41 - 5,943 (Snow Queen re-release week) [Total at this point: 112,859]

Week 12 - #65 - 3,958

Week 13 - #45 - 6,215

Week 14 - #62 - 5,223

Week 15 - #88 - 2,650 [Total at this point: 130,905]

I wonder what Parlophone's aims were for the 2016 reissue? I'm not sure whether they'd have been all that pleased with Kylie Christmas selling just 24,000 during the weeks that the Snow Queen edition was available for that Christmas market.

It’s so depressing, album sales felt dead back then in comparison to previous decades but nowadays sales really are pathetic across the board

The big Christmas album sales are the one thing I really miss - the days of the whole Top 10 being over 100k etc.,

Thanks for the Kylie Christmas breakdown - as always team Kylie choosing the most competitive week to release and missing out on a higher peak :drama:

Thanks for that break down Jay was really interesting and shows the comparison between Cher’s Christmas and Kylie’s Christmas are both very different.
So different plus if you look at sales of other christmas albums with higher peaks it shows kylie Christmas really deserved a far higher peak.
I remember the SQ release was quite tricky to find instore. CD sales were declining fast….at that time vinyl was far less popular too….am surprised they chose to repress the original 2015 KC on black vinyl when they should have just gone for a limited SQ double vinyl in green and red or something. Sure it would have sold out if they said 5000 only for say £25-30.
I'm still surprised snow Queen got as high as number 11 here in Ireland when it missed the top 40 in the UK.

I don’t think it did in reality! HMV were closing down and Kylie xmas original was reduced to 2 or 3e! As this was at same time of SQ edition it was noted in ireland as no 11 overall

I knew something contributed but wasn't fully sure.

I wonder has santa baby any hope of climbing in the UK this week and hope make an appearance in the irish top 100.

#78 in the midweeks :D

Queen of Christmas :cheeseblock:

Hopefully it holds on!

Great seeing Kylie Christmas back at 78, i wonder can it wait in.

Is this the first time its even been midweek top 100 since snow queen edition was released?

Santa Baby at 59 is good, should be enough to stay top 100 if nothing else.

^^ KC got to #86 off the back of the vinyl release in 2022.

Santa Baby #64 today.

KC didn’t manage to hold onto a Top 100 position on albums.
