The albums back to #14 in UK highest it’s been in 15 weeks.

Documentary effect. Then hopefully when The Man fully impacts and smashes it can get a few more weeks top 20. Expecting it to return to top ten after Glasto in June too.

  • 2 weeks later...

Gave this a full listen today - still as beautiful sounding as the first day <3

I Think He Knows is the underrated album track, it goes OFF :cheeseblock:

ME! and You Need To Calm Down were baffling single choices to go with pre album release.

Lover also should’ve been a single later down the line so it peaked in q4!

The album itself is actually so good though. It’s like the natural follow up to 1989.

Cornelia Street is the one what’s grown on me most lately and Daylight too. Such a strong album though.

Taylor’s last two eras for me were so much better in album tracks to what they were singles. Thank god I’m one of those who listens to full albums or my opinion on her as an artist would be so different.

If this gets two more weeks top 40 it will match what Reputation did here in UK weeks wise.

Currently on 32 weeks and that spent 34 weeks.

I actually this will spend longer on the top 40 than that tbh and perhaps even longer than Red too go become her second longest runner top 40 wise after 1989?

I don't see the issue with 'ME!' as a single... sure it's not lead single area but I think she really wanted to go with something sonically different from the 'Reputation' era... I wish she'd taken a risk and gone with 'False God' or 'Cornelia Street' as the first single... though I'm sure 'Cruel Summer' was probably a contender.
I actually think The Man would've been the best lead single, ME! is such a plain choice

heavy rumours starting to happen that something is happening on the 8th May, which will probs be Cruel Summer video/sent as a single

She tweeted today at 5:08 and ofc Swifties have picked up about 100 Easter eggs (from Me! video to The Man video to release patterns this era) that has the number 5 & 8 and Cruel Summer linked. Hopefully this is true!!

Oooooh, that'd be lovely!

I know it's too late in the campaign to really do anything, but at least it'd have its status as a single (kind of like 'Out of the Woods' in that respect).

This album/overall era seems to me like it's performed better than Reputation, although I haven't tracked them closely enough to be sure.

Is that so?

In the UK

reputation managed 34 weeks top 40

Lover has had 33 so far so it should match that at least this week

Lover spent an extra week top ten to reputation but reputation has more weeks top 20.

I’d say it’s done as well as reputation perhaps. But because reputation was a Q4 release it had better opening sales.

Had the glasto slot still went ahead she could’ve went back in the top 10 with Lover after her set was televised :(

It was what she needed coming off the back of Reputation I think. It feels like the publics general perception has changed a lot and she has so much more goodwill going for her with this era. So maybe that's why it "feels" bigger when it's actually just very similar.

That’s a good point Jonjo!

Because Reputation followed up 1989 one of the biggest albums of the 10s decade I think hype for that era may have been a lot bigger which is likely how it sold well in its opening week/s.

I’m glad she could be continuing with this era still, I hope she manages to pull another hit off somehow

Been listening to this album a lot during lockdown and appreciating it a lot more than when it was first released. I think it might be my favourite Taylor album now

^^^ I am the exact same! DBATC, I Forgot You Existed, Paper Rings and London boy have all grown on me massively and I play this album without skipping which is more than can be said for most of Taylor’s.
I honestly love it, I know the lyrics are cringey but I do bop :')

With 35 weeks in the UK top 40 this has now spent longer in the top 40 than what Reputation did!

Eras so far in order of weeks spent in top 40 albums.

0 - Taylor Swift (peaked at #81)

3 - Speak Now

17 - Fearless

34 - Reputation

35 (so far) Lover

44 - Red

88 - 1989

Lover i feel could potentially become her second longest runner and could overtake Red but 1989 is way ahead unsurprisingly! Such a shame Glasto is cancelled this year though because she could’ve challenged for a repeak at #1 following her slot or at the least returned to the top 10 and seen some of her other albums get huge boosts too.
