Biography

 

Clean Bandit are an English electronic music group, formed in Cambridge in 2008. The band consists of members Grace Chatto, and brothers Jack and Luke Patterson. Many of their projects are known for blending elements of both classical and dance music, and featuring guest vocalists. Notable collaborators include Jess Glynne, Anne Marie, Sean Paul, Demi Lovato, Zara Larsson, Ellie Goulding, Marina and Rita Ora.

 

The band released their debut single "A+E" in 2012, followed by their 2013 single "Mozart's House", the latter of which reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart. In January 2014, they scored their first UK chart topping single with "Rather Be", a collaboration with Jess Glynne. The song also reached number ten on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2015, the song won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. The band's debut album New Eyes was released in June 2014 and has received a gold certification from the BPI. Their 2016 single "Rockabye", which features Jamaican artist Sean Paul and singer Anne-Marie, became their second number one hit in the UK and the Christmas number one single for 2016. The song became an international chart topper for the band, additionally charting at number nine in the US. "Symphony" featuring Zara Larsson became their third UK number one single in 2017. Seems ridiculous that a huge #1 can miss this list but a song from almost two years can. Goes to show the charts don't really mean much now.

All you have to do to do well is release the previous year or January to do well in this, so annoying :(. It's not a true reflection of the biggest / most popular songs of the year at all imo.

Symphony being saved by the fact the album was recently released - what a great song though. Sounds like a classic already which will be played for years to come. Also sounds like a multiple week no1 as well not a single weeker!!

With streaming, the tail ends of chart runs are more important than ever, and lower positions are considerably closer to higher positions in terms of raw chart points. It might feel weird but more people will listen to Shallow in 2019 and they did in 2018 probably.

A London-based grime MC of Ghanaian heritage, Stormzy launched his career clashing at youth clubs around his hometown. His performances evolved from grime-only music that showed a love of artists like Skepta to more rap-oriented material that reflected Stormzy's growing appreciation for artists like Drake. Late in 2013 he began uploading his "Wicked Skengman" series of freestyles over classic grime beats; in 2014, he made his official debut with the EP Dreamers Disease. A year later he released the single "Know Me From" along with "WickedSkengMan 4," the first track in his "WickedSkengMan" freestyle series and a Top 20 hit in the U.K. That December, Stormzy performed the single's B-side, "Shut Up," at a match between heavyweight boxers Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. The song jumped into the Top 40 following the broadcast, and the rapper launched a campaign to have the song top the charts during Christmas. This boosted the track to the number eight position, and the number one position on the R&B singles chart. Before returning to the studio to record his debut LP, he released non-album single "Scary" in the spring of 2016. My dad and sister were made to sing this at the annual Church show and I can't listen to it the same again :lol:

This Stormzy song is genius using the choir and all, one of the highlights of Gang Signs and Prayer for me!

Which only highlights how boring and uninteresting most people are. Actually, more than anything it highlights how uninterested they are in music. These aren’t the biggest hits of the year, they’re playlist staples for people that want something on in the background.

Liam Payne

Liam James Payne (born 29 August 1993) is an English singer and songwriter. He rose to fame as a member of the boy band One Direction. Payne made his debut as a singer when he auditioned for the British television series The X Factor in 2008. José Álvaro Osorio Balvin (born May 7, 1985), known professionally as J Balvin, is a Colombian reggaeton singer. Balvin was born in Medellín, Colombia. At age 17, he moved to the United States. He moved to Oklahoma and New York to learn English and was influenced by the music he heard there. He then returned to Medellín and gained popularity performing at clubs in the city.

 

His breakthrough came in 2014 with the single "6 AM" featuring Puerto Rican singer Farruko which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. Then he met David Cohen and started to be his best friend because he helped Jose to write the new song, along with the single "Ay Vamos", bolstered sales of his album La Familia (2014).
