January 1, 20205 yr I’m guessing that HMV have had a terrible trading period in the lead up to Christmas :nocheer: They have announced the following stores are closing in January - Grimsby, Plymouth, Worcester, Bury St Edmonds & Glasgow (Fopp). And Coventry, Lincoln and the store in Birmingham Bullring are going too (Although the Birmingham one was always going to close after The Vault opened - interestingly the article states that Bullring takes more money than The Vault!).
January 1, 20205 yr Finally got to the 50000 and i can spend my final vopucher thanks to blagging receipts off friends.
January 1, 20205 yr If the one in Belfast closes there won't be ANY in Ireland I feel like I’ve been left with none anyway - we’ve been left with 2 in London (Covent Garden & White City), I have started shopping with them online though to support the brand.
January 1, 20205 yr I’ve got 91,303 points! I would have to spend £86.97 to lift it to 100,000, and I don’t think there’s enough I want at the moment to spend that much, in order to get £10 off. I guess I’ll just have to settle for £5 off and disregard the rest of the points. :(
January 4, 20205 yr Lots of press coverage today for the 10 stores that are closing - https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymai...spotted-UK.html Support HMV people
January 6, 20205 yr Lots of press coverage today for the 10 stores that are closing - https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymai...spotted-UK.html Support HMV people  HMV Merry Hill closing too went there today and did my bit to support
January 6, 20205 yr My guess is Doug's doing his best to prevent what became a problem the last two times by finding more appropriate spaces for stores that have struggled with rents etc and doing his best to consolidate so that those beyond help aren't dragging the outlets that are successful through the mud. I feel confident he can do it and I still value them and patronise them, but if there's still a HMV near to you then the message is simple - get behind them.

I think he will look for cheaper outlets to replace the ones that have gone as i think high rent has been a problem.

The Lincoln HMV isn't going, it's just moving IIRC.
January 6, 20205 yr Yep. Lincoln is just relocating. Doug is most certainly doing his best to just try and find venues with cheaper rent available, especially for the ones in shopping malls etc.. the rent in those are ridiculous for the spaces they actually get. He's very willing to re-open the stores that have closed if he can find cheaper venues for them etc..
January 11, 20205 yr Happy that the Birmingham store is safe but gutted about the Merry Hill one closing :( I went there today (to spend the £10 in vouchers i'd earned *.*) and went on to spend a further £60 too on CDs, DVDs and books. I did my bit! ^_^
January 11, 20205 yr I only realised how much I spent in HMV this past year after I was trying to find a receipt for the loyalty thing and I was finding loads of out of date HMV receipts but not the one I was looking for!
January 21, 20205 yr Both Birmingham Bullring and Merry Hill stores have now been saved. https://www.expressandstar.com/news/busines...st-ditch-talks/

January 22, 20205 yr I think the Reading store was meant to be closing but has been saved again (second time this has happened).
January 22, 20205 yr The price of vinyl is ridiculous. They obviously need to charge these prices to make their margins but no....far too expensive. I am a big vinyl collector and 90% of the time I walk out with nothing in my hand. So....if am doing that who is buying the vinyl at these crazy prices?
January 22, 20205 yr Edinburgh has been saved too. Landlords reducing the rent. Its a clever strategy.....claim you are going to close down so that you get a rent reduction. Game are doing the same thing.

I disagree, they have a lot of great deals on vinyls from time to time. I was able to get quite a few recent vinyls in October for £10.
