Am I the only one here who's now thoroughly sick of how this Brexit business is dragging on, and just wants it over, one way or another?! :banghead:

God no. For what I assume to be my personal mental health, the worst of all worlds is May’s deal somehow succeeding and keeping a process I have become thoroughly sick of in the National and political debate. Even as I’ve gone to the other side of the world.

The only good thing no deal would do in that regard is free me from this crushing uncertainty about how my birth country will look once it’s done. It would be awful but at least I’d be able to say what the future roughly looks like.

Sadly, it won;t be over whatever happens. May's deal gets through, there are years aof trade deals and squabbling ahead. Hard Brexit, there are years (if not decades) of trade deals and squabbling ahead. May's deal fails there are years of squabbling ahead over what sort of Brexit we want, and then years of trade deals and squabbling ahead.

The only "let's get rid of bloody Brexit" option is to stay in the EU after a public vote. As I said to my niece, who sick of the whole thing too, "well don;t blame me - I didn;t vote for it!" Shoulda listened to Remainers who explained all of this quite comprehensively. So many Brexiters I talk to saying they will never vote again already cos they are sick of useless Labour & Tories both....

So, result!

The Attorney General has confirmed that the legal position regarding the backstop has not changed. Is anyone surprised?

Nope.

If the deal gets voted down tonight (now looking increasingly likely) things start to get interesting... it's pretty clear that No Deal will definitely be ruled out tomorrow, and an extension to Article 50 will be sought. The EU have already stated that this can be no longer than 24 May as any longer than that and the UK would have to hold European Elections.

Well, May disappoints once again. The deal should be voted down by a large margin. I'm really not sure where things are heading once the deal is voted down. No deal will be ruled out tomorrow and an extension of Article 50 requested, but extending it doesn't achieve much as the negotiations regarding the backstop have gone round in circles for months and nothing has really changed at all.

With May's deal voted down, there is a higher chance of us remaining in the EU which I would be very happy with. But from the looks of things, EFTA membership seems the only way brexit will occur. I assume there'll be a people's vote with a few different options:

Remain

Leave with May's deal

Leave and join EFTA

I can't see a no deal option being included.

I have no idea what the ERG's and DUP's strategy is. Don't they realise the deal is literally the 'hardest' form of Brexit that could happen, given that Parliament definitively wouldn't let no deal happen. Having a delay will significantly raise the chances of having a second referendum or a much softer Brexit which the ERG and DUP don't want.

Perhaps the ERG simply want to vote against the deal to get rid of Theresa May as PM and install their own PM from their side of the Conservative Party?

MP's should do their public duty tonight and honour the referendum result and vote the deal through but they won't.

Easy - hard Brexit and the one which causes the most damage to the economy. The majority of them stand to make a lot of money, the harder the better for them, but doesn't look like that's going to happen at the moment.

I don't know why Theresa May bothered with a 2nd Commons vote when it was obvious that the deal wouldn't go through. Oh well, one of life's sweet mysteries.

She banked on getting some bodge words from the EU so she could keep delaying until the Hard Brexiteering nutters (those ones that lied their way through the referendum campaign) would be forced to vote for her deal or risk not getting Brexit at all. That has been her only strategy. Any other strategy, such as consulting Parliament on what IT wants before taking her own red lines as gospel, was ruled out by her own stubborn obstinacy, so she recklessly triggered Article 50 before before getting Parliament sorted, tried to bypass Parliament as if she'd been elected Queen of All She Surveys, tried to bypass British constitution, till the Courts reminded her of her limited powers, tried to have a devastating power grab while she was miles ahead in the polls on the crest of the Brexit wave, and got kicked in the teeth by an electorate waking up to how crap she is, and the Tories are, and shot herself in the foot, and so on she limped, clinging on by her teeth using Brexit Day as her leverage, and the Brexiteering faithful all jumped ship as they realised they couldn't deliver on all the lies and promises until she was forced to realise, today, she has nothing left she can bet on, and not even her own leopard-skin shoes and leather pants can entice her own party to support her, never mind the rest of Parliament.

Apart from that she's been a fine Prime Minister.....

Their public duty, as made very clear in their code of conduct, is to vote for what they believe to be in the national interest. There is nothing in the code to say that an advisory referendum overrides that obligation.

I was expecting her to announce her resignation, after that decision. Probably a 2nd referendum, or a General Election

Lol the groans from Parliment when there was talk of a 2nd Referendum.. lol - the irony when you can't make your mind up.

Can only see a People's Vote now as surely there is not a majority for a No Deal Brexit. My only worry with a People's Vote is No Deal on the ballot paper, cos that is just a ridiculous idea, but one I could see many people voting for on the basis they have no clue what they're voting for.

Well the next few days will be interesting. Not surprised TM hasn't resigned, although she could still do so in the coming days. I expect an extension of Article 50 and a second referendum.
It's hard to see anything but a referendum breaking the deadlock

A referendum for which there is no majority (at the moment) in Parliament. I still feel like EFTA will be the ONLY option that can actually deliver a majority, but I guess we will see..

I agree, but whether that happens or not who knows. I feel the ERG may chance it if they can get a Hard Brexit/No Deal on the paper.

I mean for all we know a country might veto any extension to Article 50 which leaves us totally fuked.
