I was recently having this discussion with my parents and thought it would be a fun topic to take to BuzzJack. So... what is your earliest memory of going to the cinema?

I'm not sure if this was 100% my first time but the earliest memory I have of going to the cinema was to see The Powerpuff Girls Movie (2002) as a 4 year old  what a choice. There was a Dexter's Laboratory short that was shown beforehand as well. I was obsessed with the TV show/Cartoon Network as a kid so my parents treated me to the film, my mum said it was awful though *_* but I must have loved it as I definitely have the VHS kicking about somewhere. I recall watching Finding Nemo in the cinema the following year too! I also enjoyed that, albeit was a bit freaked out by Darla.

What about you guys?

the first one I remember going to see was Shrek 2 but I'm sure that wasn't actually the first one.

Monsters Inc

I was about 4 or 5 I think and went with my Dad - also 100% confirmed my first one at the cinema.

I remember we used to go to see Disney films when we were kids and I don't remember the first one I saw, but my first 'grown up' film was Titanic. I remember it was out at the same time as the Spice Girls movie and I begged my mum for us to see that instead

Tim Burton's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

I remember seeing this in a now closed down cinema back when I was about 5 or 6 and I had a great time watching it.

I can't remember! It was probably either A Bug's Life or Toy Story 2 - I definitely feel like I saw Toy Story 2 at the cinema but not sure if I did with A Bug's Life - I just remember getting a Flick toy

The answer is always going to be whatever the biggest kids movie was the year you turned 5 :P For me it was 'Aladdin' back in 1993, which I still remember really well as it felt like a huge event at the time. We were queuing outside the cinema for what felt like ages before the movie started!

I saw this too but it was one of my most embarrassing movie experiences! I was 13 and had to pretend to my Dad that I was watching something else (Lilo & Stitch I think) as I didn't want him laughing at me for seeing "a girls film", then when I entered the screen with my Mum I'm the only boy in the cinema and the only kid older than about 8. To make things worse my mum fell asleep halfway through the film!

I work at a cinema now and had to tell off a (male) staff member recently for advising a young female customer that Bumblebee is "a boys film" which was wrong on a million different levels. Reminded me of the Odeon usher when I saw 'Mamma Mia' who asked me where my wife and kids were when I watched it alone...

The earliest I can remember is my older cousin taking me to see Mr. Bean: The Movie. I was quite young.

All of my friends are welcome to watch Bumblebee in their spare time regardless of their gender. :)

Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was the first film I watched. Was about 8 at the time.
One of my earliest memories is seeing Beauty and the Beast at the cinema!

Same :D

I had a look and it came out in Feb 2002 in the UK which was the month I turned 4.

It was either Dumbo or Bambi, mum told me she started crying on my head for the sad scenes (I was a toddler). The first film I have memories of seeing is A Hard Day's Night, probably - there's a scene where John Lennon is in the bath and the manager pulled the plug out, and John disappeared under the bubbles until they all drained away and John wasn't there. Like the manager I got worried he'd gone down the plughole, and wondered how he managed to suddenly turn up behind him a moment later.

The first two were periodic Disney oldies revivals (I'm not that old to have seen them first time out!) but the Beatles film was at the time.... :o
