If I Was Your Lover

Picking up the pace with this more funky and harder edged dance sound that further showcases Kylie's new diversity, with some more breathy and saucy vocals, and there's even a slight hint of a classy R&B sound, that therefore creates one of the most interesting songs on this album as well as some great production by Jimmy Harry and perhaps could have made a great single choice, as its a definite standout moment on here.

'If I Was Your Lover' is one of my least favourites from the album so I'm glad it didn't become a single, especially in the place of 'Put Yourself in My Place' which was originally planned! The urban makeover of the song was due to it being planned to lead the album in the US, but I've just discovered the original and it sounds better to me:

The problem with KM94 is the 2 leads were obvious singles but then it had plenty of strong album tracks. Where is the Feeling in its original form was a good choice...I’m not sure why they thought completely altering the single version and releasing it 7 months after PYIMP would lead people to buy the album!

BTT ....decent song just not representative of Aphrodite. The title track should have been the third single, and they should have re recorded Closer with Taio Cruz as a final single.

RBW...quality song apart from the freaking around lyric.

Yeah, delaying the release for Street Fighter of all things! :drama: I've no problem with them remixing the song but I think the album version should have appeared on the CD. There was only one performance from the time of release that I can find and that used the Bish Bosh Mix instead of the Dolphin Mix that appears in the video. I feel like all these versions probably made it uncertain which was the actual single version.

I actually prefer the single version to the album version, still shouldn’t have been a single though.
My KM94 run =

Aug '94 - "Confide In Me"
Nov '94 - "Put Yourself In My Place"
Mar '95 - "If I Was Your Lover" [given a remix]
July '95 - "Time Will Pass You By"

Re-Release KM94 in November to include some extra tracks, 'Where The Wild Roses Grow' & single remixes and etc.

I know the 8 month gap was because Kylie was busy filming 'Street Fighter' or 'Bio Dome', but the label could have easily set time aside to release something early in the year, and 'IIWYL' could have fitted the bill, give it a slight remix, an awesome music video & same can go for 'TWPYB' use the Stuart Masterson edit for that, instead of 'WITF' for the summer period, and maybe re-release the album later in the year to include a few extra tracks and the single versions of these songs that should have definitely breathed new life into this era, and helped it gain more sales.

Plus I think at least one of these songs could have given Kylie another top 10 hit or at the very least both could have went top 20. Below I've included some fan-made covers I've found for the latter 2 tracks & 'KM'94 special edition.

Love those covers - the fan made material from this era was far better than anything Deconstruction made! I still love the fan made ‘The KM94 sessions’ (So good that they actually look like official releases).

I’ve always said it - even though Kylie created some of her best output with Deconstruction they were totally lost with how to market her and their release strategy was all over the place when they didn’t get the results they expected, I’m sure with a more solid label behind her she could have achieved more success with the 2 albums - the way IP was handled was terrible, appreciate the name change etc., but everything Deconstruction did with that release was a disaster that I’m actually surprised it ended up getting released at all!

De con and marketing never worked which is a shame as the material could have done better. While I love the cowboy style cover i still think there are better tracks on the album.
Cowboy Style has come in much higher than i would have predicted before the results were revealed.

Actually always liked 'Please Stay', sure there were far better single choices on the album 'Disco Down', 'Butterfly', 'Light Years' or even 'Your Disco Needs You'. Again its not one of her best, but its a fun track and like almost all of the album its a definite highlight and the Latin-Pop sound does show another side to the album and plus LOVE the music video which is a hell of a lot of fun (and really want that 'Light Years' jukebox).

It was a shame however that this was the final UK single, and they could have easily pushed out a 5th for early 2001, which not only could have added more album sales, but easily been another top 10 hit, as she was really on roll at this point in her career. My choice for single #5 for the UK would have obviously been the mega missed opportunity 'YDNY' (if only the label would come to their senses and realize that Kylie being further stereotyped was stupid), I mean so what, it would have it more attention to this and 'LY' and the fans really wanted this released and the public would easily lapped this up in the new year.

Or if not this then anyone of the other choices that I've already named. Plus give 'Butterfly' a proper full American release with a music video, promo and etc...

Disco Down was the only obvious single for me, I 😍 it

Your disco needs you is sooooooooo overrated in my opinion

The cover deserved waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more points, I genuinely think its her best cover/album/tour
X is just so mixed, it has some great songs and also a few dud ones, some songs left off are better than ones that made the final cut.
