I kinda wish Dua did a Lemonade-type video album for this record. The whole album screams for visual treatment.

I think I would rank (for just now)

1) Physical

2) Break My Heart

3) Levitating

4) Don't Start Now

5) Love Again

6) Good In Bed

7) Hallucinate

8) Future Nostalgia

9) Cool

10) Boys Will Be Boys

11) Pretty Please

It's a pure pop album entirely performed by a female artist so 7.5 is pretty much as good as it was gonna get there

Album: Future Nostalgia

I think it's doing great, no?!

Hallucinate is something that Madonna could have released as a lead single from COADF, for real!
OK, I have listened most of tracks from this LP..... despite the fact it's marvelous record, nothing can top LA Live version of DSN  - it's the most enjoyable moment in pop music since Taylor Swift performance of Style on Victoria's Secret Show

I really hope this goes to #1

Skepta is ahead on Apple Music albums and on singles too he has more tracks on top 40 than what Dua currently has.

I assumed Dua would easily get a #1 with this album but this forum is making me nervous. It would be a shame if she didn't considering the hype and reception - it may also deter other artists from releasing during this crisis. I might have to buy this on iTunes despite never using it anymore just to give her an extra sale. She deserves a #1 with this pop masterpiece.

I thought she has no competition

We will find out on Monday I guess.

I am just hoping her pre-orders were enough to give her comfortable lead!!!

I've pretty much done nothing but play this album all day to be honest, but at the moment I'm sitting with:

1 Physical (11)

2 Don't Start Now (10)

3 Hallucinate (10)

4 Cool (9.5)

5 Break My Heart (9)

6 Levitating (9)

7 Future Nostalgia (8)

8 Boys Will Be Boys (7.5)

9 Love Again (7)

10 Good In Bed (7)

11 Pretty Please (6)

08 Future Nostalgia - Found this really grating all of those months ago, Dua's talk-singing works so much better in small doses (e.g. on 'Physical') but I got used to all of that and quite enjoy this as a whole package now, especially the fabulous chorus. It works well as an opening track.

10 Don't Start Now - Starting to tire of this now as it's been hanging around in the chart FOREVER, but that aside, what a strong and smart start to the era this was

7.5 Cool - This is solid enough but definitely finding it a bit overrated already on the interwebs

11 Physical - Masterpiece, song of the year, wig has been missing for 2 months now etc.

09 Levitating - What kind of 1-2 punch is 'Physical' and this?! *.* continued funky euphoria and the lyrical imagery is gorgeous. Giving me strong Bruno Mars '24k Magic' era vibes! Also the middle 8 is really reminding me of the bridge of Cher Lloyd's 'Want U Back' lmao, sass queens

07 Pretty Please - This is sounding pretty fillery after that relentless back-to-back but it's cute

9.5 Hallucinate - Okay stan mode is activated once again - Dua is really out there living her 00s pop girl fantasy! Definitely getting the Kylie 'Fever' comparisons <3

8.5 Love Again - 'Your Woman' is one of my favourite songs of its respective year so I was dubious about it being sampled but this is done really tastefully! Those strings are beaut, she's really pulling me in with every sign of a synth or string here

10 Break My Heart - She has got it SO right with these single choices! Another tastefully done sample and the bridge is so lush. "I should have stayed at home" tho

04 Good In Bed - I'm... still processing this one! Right now the chorus is jarring and it feels super out of place on the album, hmm, I guess this is her quirky moment on the record but it falls a bit flat for me, what kind of basic chorus. Maybe I need more time to get it idk

05 Boys Will Be Boys - Alright, feels quite fillery despite such bold subject matter

Lemme replace the last two with 'One Kiss' and 'Electricity' and then I'll be majorly satisfied from beginning to end. A general triumph of an era!

After a few listens I’d probably rank the album as

1. Don’t Start Now 11/10

2. Physical 10/10

3. Hallucinate 10/10

4. Cool 9.5/10

5. Levitating 9/10

6. Break My Heart 8.5/10

7. Boys Will Be Boys 8.5/10

8. Good In Bed 8/10

9. Love Again 7/10

10. Pretty Please 6/10

11. Future Nostalgia 4/10

The top 3 order could change. Like Physical is growing so much and Hallucinate hit me really fast.

Don’t Start Now is still just ahead but I’m here for it to move out the charts now. It’s had its time and for a while it prevented Physicla

from really taking off so I don’t want this to hinder Break Your Heart.

Break My Heart easily has the best video of the era but for me I think there were better choices to be the third single. BUT every track could be a single tbh. It is really strong. The title track is the only one I’d probably choose not to listen to on its own. If I heard anything else on shuffle though I wouldn’t skip.

Pretty Please I wouldn’t even call filler. I think she needed something on the album that was more chill / mellow but it’s not like a wow moment like most of the album is.

Quick album rank on first listen ~

1 Physical 9.5/10 (think this probably ranks as my 2nd fave song from her discog overall, 'Be The One' is untouched but this narrowly pips 'New Rules' methinks)

2 Don't Start Now 9/10

3 Levitating 8.5-9/10 (I need to listen to this a bit more to decide but I can see it overtaking DSN for me, it was my easy highlight of the album tracks on first listen <3 super funky ~)

4 Love Again 8/10 (great use of the 'Your Woman' sample)

5 Hallucinate 8/10

6 Break My Heart 8/10 (there's nothing in it between 4th and 6th here so this could defo jump to 4th as I hear it more what with it being a single - this album listen was actually my first time hearing it, I do need to check out the video as well x)

7 Future Nostalgia 7.5/10 (it's not by any means the best song on here but I think it's an absolutely perfect choice of opening track)

8 Pretty Please 7/10 (iss cute, not a standout but a nice album track)

~

9 Boys Will Be Boys 5.5/10 (one of a couple of songs on here that is ruined by some, er, not very pleasant to listen to yelpy vocals - that aside it's a nice song, I like the production and the message, just not one that I find myself wanting to go back to)

10 Good In Bed 5/10 (cringeworthy F-bomb at the end drops it a whole point. the rest of the song is a bit silly and basic but generally inoffensive)

11 Cool 4/10 (and that score feels a bit generous and I oop! the song itself is... fine I guess, though still not one of the stronger ones, what puts me off is the vocals again which really get a bit unbearable and kind of uncomfortably close to Jessie J esque? I don't get where these yelps have come from as I don't think she's sounded like this on any of her previous songs or indeed on 9 out of 11 songs on this album lol)

Issa v good album (especially for a pop album, I don't really often find myself enticed to listen to pop albums in full but the 2 singles from this are both among the best pop songs of the last year and I liked the title track too so I had to this time). Nothing comes close to 'Physical' but I didn't expect it to, I'm happy there's at least one album track there that rivals the quality of 'Don't Start Now'.

I wish this score and comment hadn't loaded, just like Dua's live stream the other day xx

After first listen.

1. Levitating

2. Cool

3. Hallucinate

4. Don't Start Now

5. Physical

6. Break My Heart

7. Love Again

8. Pretty Please

9. Future Nostalgia

10. Good In Bed

11. Boys Will Be Boys

Cool is such a guilty pleasure

Why feel guilt about loving one of the most sublime and euphoric songs on the album?

08 Future Nostalgia

10 Don't Start Now

09 Cool

10 Physical

09 Levitating

09 Pretty Please

08 Hallucinate

08 Love Again

09 Break My Heart

05 Good in Bed

05 Boys Will Be Boys

'Good in Bed' feels like an outlier sonically, and a disappointment. 'Boys Will Be Boys' is nice in theory, but too on the nose and feels at odds with the album. The other 9 tracks are all varying degrees of fantastic.

What I find most impressive — other than the incredible consistent visuals, the album rollout, and so on — is how she completely avoided a sophomore slump as well as separate herself the crowd. She clearly had a vision, a point-of-view, and didn't bother with low food-chain algorithm pop. All without a feature in sight? It would have been such an easy mistake to make — look at most female popstars in the UK right now.

It's genuinely heart-warming seeing her getting the hits and deserved acclaim. I want videos for most of these songs immediately.
