This really is such a triumph, it's the perfect song to launch her second era with! It's a natural progession to the next level but still feels so her.
Projected for a 32 debut in the US :o

I agree with this - it's not my favourite Dua song (although it is growing on me as I hoped it would) but she's really nailed this 'comeback', a great choice of song to kick off the new era. Very glad to see it doing so well for her.

We can now fully forget 'Swan Song' ever happened x

Really hoping that once 'Dance Monkey' goes to ACR that this is a #1 hit. This is fantastic from her.

I feel like it's already a big enough success regardless of if it goes to #1 or not.

A #2 debut with strong sales and streams and holding up extremely well on week 2, very impressive and sets her up well for the album

Lmao the standards for this womans stage pressence are so low

Lmao thank you!

Rob made me rewatch it and again I was like... "she was ok". Some are acting like she's just done a Gaga at the 2009 VMAs reenactment. It really wasn't *that* special at all. Yes it's an improvement from how lacklustre her performances in the debut era were but we can still have higher standards for pop performances and not elevate mediocrity to life changing performances the second someone improves slightly. She still has a LOOOOONG way to go.

She did a good job.

It really wasn’t mediocre. I don’t think anyone has been acting like it’s one of the most groundbreaking performances of all time, however fans are delighted that Dua has clearly stepped up her game. She delivered a very confident, stylish and polished performance that just worked! She deserved praise for it.

This!

For someone slated for her dancing & stage presence to do a full dance & singing performance with two sets of props AND a dance break as her comeback performance is to me impressive. No, it wasn't a top class dancer performance, but she's not primarily a dancer like some acts, with that in mind the level of complexity was a serve imo because its not like she *needed* to do that.
the song is PERFECTION. omg. that pre-chorus!

Yes the pre-chorus is great, but unfortunately for me it vastly outshines the chorus itself. You see, the pre-chorus is quite 'deep' and soulful I think, and very Becky Hill dance song-esque, it needed an equally deep and soulful chorus to go with that I think (or just a house-y instrumental with occasional lyrics (based on the 'if you don't want to see me' lines of the pre-chorus) in place of the chorus). Unfortunately it completely changes into upbeat disco-pop which doesn't really go I think.

yeah I kinda get that, it feels like it’s about to have a Gryffin drop then it goes all disco.

speaking of which I’d love if this got a Gryffin remix.

the song is brilliant anyhow.

This is spot on! Nobody's even tried to compare the performance to Gaga because they're obviously on different levels, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate when Dua still serves up a brilliantly polished performance. She's come on so far from a year ago it's unreal!

Also I've not said yet but the song is superb, been in my head all week! Such a smart comeback single.

This is SO gonna end up being a defining song of the year for me and has come at THE perfect time for me, like 'Party For One' did last year. I liked it on first listen and very quickly loved it, but nearly 2 weeks on and I'm loving it even more and wanting to play it more and more. I honestly didn't know she had it in her, New Rules almost felt lucky it landed in her lap and she's kind of been riding the wave expertly ever since but this really feels like the birth of who she comfortably knows she is as a popstar, the live performance confirming that.
