October 2, 20195 yr Hopefully this means she’s cancelled. She legit had so much going for after sugar but psycho. So Am I even sold very well in the UK so to see Radio 1 drop her was quite a surprise. I am FAR from her biggest fan but... wishing she got cancelled? You cry and moan when it seems like Zara won't get record label support so how can you wish it on another? I'm going to repost something I posted in the Zara forum here: Record labels are so incredibly fickle it's frustrating. How are artists supposed to develop, sustain and experiment if they are dropped at the slightest hint of underperforming? Where would the likes of Madonna be if they were dropped at their first underperformance? She could still be making the label money through touring, merchandise etc - it's not just through hit singles! Artists that persist with making albums even without huge hits are the ones that gain respect and followings over time. It's why news of Katy Perry not releasing an album unless there's a demand for it is so deflating and annoying to see.
October 2, 20195 yr Yeah I'm not her biggest fan but I'm not calling for her to be cancelled! I'm sure she can still bring out bops if she wanted to. Especially as we are so so thin on the ground for female pop stars, I take what I can get!
October 2, 20195 yr Oh the gap is real, last week in the UK top 40 there was like 42 men and 14 women in the chart or something like that. (Although the charts are dead anyway.) We have artists like Katy Perry and Zara Larsson flopping. Hoping Rihanna, Adele and Gaga can help the ladies out in coming months.
October 2, 20195 yr but I don't understand why you're saying her label is not supporting her on the contrary, they bought her that high tv spot last weekend, that's a lot of $$$$$ that her label invested in her
October 2, 20195 yr A TV performance is useless unless you have airplay or playlist support nowadays to keep it in everyones affections.

I am yet to see anything particularly special about her — but some people do. She still managed to get a number one single this year with something that sounds at complete odds with the charts. It's not 1999 anymore — a third single missing the top 75 would have probably resulted in a dropped artist back then, but fortunately, the metrics of success are so different now. She'll be fine.
October 2, 20195 yr I have to admit, I find it hard to see where she goes from here if I'm honest. Especially if radio and Spotify can't support her. Maybe hits featuring on tracks? Maybe she can find her way back that way.
October 2, 20195 yr Sadly I really think this is the end of the line already. The signs are rather ominous.

October 2, 20195 yr she/the label had one shot at making her happen when sweet but psycho got to #1 but so am i was not it. psycho was a faceless hit so she can’t ride that, i’d bet a large proportion of the gp wouldn’t be able to tell you who sang it. i don’t know where the fault lies - she should have promoted over here much sooner if she wanted any longevity. we just don’t know anything about her, she’s boring + she doesn’t have the bops to back her up.
October 2, 20195 yr Agree completely. It's funny because I love Sweet But Psycho, really like So Am I and Torn is good enough I guess, but for whatever reason I'm still not exactly desperate to hear what Ava does next. Right now it seems like she is a vehicle for some admittedly strong classic melodic pop, which is sorely lacking from the charts, but filling a niche alone is still not enough to cover up a lack of star quality compared to the other big 'pop girls'. And, Sweet But Psycho aside, the songs are good but not huge enough to compensate for that, so I can sadly see why she's starting to struggle commercially.
October 2, 20195 yr I legit thought we'd found a huge pop star when Sweet but Psycho blew up. I'm a bit gutted by it all tbh.
October 4, 20195 yr Ouch so Jonathan Ross and mainstream radio promo couldn’t return this to the Top 100 this week!
October 4, 20195 yr Ava I don’t think is over yet. She’s had a “flop” After a huge success and another success Dua Lipa was in an odd position before her debut album dropped and now look at her Ava could easily go the same way as she did if Torn is her “Lost In Your Light”
October 8, 20195 yr I'm really starting to love Freaking Me Out, a Halloween anthem. If she releases a video a couple of weeks before Halloween, she could make something of it. However I know she can do better.

She’s had a “flop” After a huge success and another success Dua Lipa was in an odd position before her debut album dropped and now look at her Ava could easily go the same way as she did if Torn is her “Lost In Your Light” I'm not sure tbh, Dua got lucky and the turnaround she experienced is really rare but it felt like Dua has built up a name for herself by that point with several decent sized hits under her belt. Whereas Ava has had one massive hit and kind of fizzled into nothing. Plus there's the fact it seems like commercial radio have abandoned her, which they didn't do with Dua. It'll be nigh-on impossible for her to pick up that support again.

Agree with this - Dua has some mid sized hits before coming back and hitting the big time, Ava had a 1.4 million selling #1 and then disappeared into the dumper, I feel it’s going to be harder for her to come back.
