I guess not many people can or want to fly to Auckland? Budget? Covid?

It was probably difficult for them to get people over every time for an episode, I guess they could have had a video link for the actual judging part. Maybe it is budget rather than anything else though, I can't say I really mind the lack of guest judges so much even though there's a lot of great names they could have had in terms of Aussie guests.

ย

For me the problem is the judging itself, not even so much the outcomes (other than this week's bottom 2) but as we've mentioned, the way they're approaching critiques really and the expectations that they set. It's especially clear with Elektra, I mean this week's runway was kinda ugly that's fair, but last week for example whilst it was basic was fine. There's a difference between basic and ugly, of course you can't have horrific runways every week but it's not like she has looked terrible every time. Drag is so much more about the performance and the range of skills they can do, I mean anyone can buy an outfit and wear it, but not just anyone can kill a lipsync, do a good Snatch Game, perform a verse in a song, host a club night or do a comedy routine.

ย

What's mad is Elektra dominated House Of Drag and here she just can seem to do no right. To me it seems like Ru has narrowed down Down Under drag to this OTT camp side which is signature of Aussie/Kiwi drag but it's not ALL there is.

I thought episode 3 had some good moments, but at the moment it feels a little bit flat for me

ย

Some good personalities, but with Art gone it just feels like the quality dipped.

ย

The bottom 2 has the worst outfits (by far) but to be honest none of the runway looks stunned. The group performances were ok as well and the right Queen definitely won.

I can kind of understand the โ€˜Beyoncรฉโ€™ criticism of Electra. It did feel like she was trying to do everything she could to shine, without actually thinking about the other girls. That being said it feels like Maxi is so out of her league - and I would have put her bottom 2 instead

Oh yeah and how gorgeous did Troye look. ๐Ÿ˜
It seems incredibly low budget compared even to the first UK edition. When I watched it on my phone the first time I ended up wiping my screen thinking it was smudged but there is just a constant blur around, definitely more noticeable during the confessionals and the main stage.

RuPaul does feel extremely disconnected/maybe disinterested. I'm enjoying the queens though. I feel like Michelle and Ru aren't translating that well somehow.

ย

I am loving how the Down Under queens seem completely self-aware and are actively playing up storylines and drama because that's what reality tv wants.

I thought Elektra did so bad hahah- her runway was so bad, her lyrics was bad, her makeup is AWFUL??? Iโ€™m not enjoying her at all tbh and I think Coco did better in the lipsync but both were pretty bad tbh

Elektra and Maxi genuinely would have been my top 2 this week

ย

Judging is crazy! And yeh it does seem to be missing something it really does seem so low budget !

Maxi and Karen's verses were SO cringe bad I can't even listen to that team's song, absolutely boggles the mind how either one wasn't bottom 2 other than Ru's favouritism.
I was gonna write up how Iโ€™d have judged the episode but Iโ€™d keep it the exact same but with Kita winning. Elektra and Coco felt like the worst all round for me- Maxi seemed at least like she was having fun and being silly. Karenโ€™s verse felt so Karen if you know what I mean so it worked for me.

Depends, if we judge on their own I'd say:

ย

WIN: Kita or Anita

High: Kita or Anita, Elektra

Safe: Scarlet, Etc

Low: Coco

Bottom 2: Maxi, Karen

ย

If as a group:

ย

WIN: Anita or Scarlet

High: Their team

Safe: Elektra, Kita

Bottom 2: Maxi, Karen

ย

I get why it wasn't a whole group thing, for one probably budget lmao but also it wasn't a UK Hun kind of scenario where they all killed it, Coco was the weak link but she definitely wasn't bad enough for bottom 2.

i don't think Ru is showing disinterest in this edition but it's definitely not translating very well. yet again, I felt like this with the Canadian version but luckily everything started to line up towards the end once I warmed up to the format.

ย

Art going for sure didn't help, though, let's be honest. She was by far the best judging from the outside work she's done so it'll probably go down as the most 'she waz robbed' moment ever for me.

One other thing that I've noticed is the queens being SO much more shady and bitchy than in regular editions, it's like we're back to US S3 :') Although at the same time there's not a lot of drama which probably means the queens don't take is super personally? I know very little about Aussie/Kiwi drag so idk if it's part of their drag culture.
