That is atrocious.

Well at least Boris and Co are still trying to get a deal in time.

They aren't.

They don't even understand the issues/ backstop.

The ONLY thing they have a mandate for is a soft brexshit. The end.

How? How is this proposal, if true, supposed to help? Why would the Irish government consider customs posts a few miles from the border to be any more acceptable than customs posts at the border? What would it mean for the people who live within a few miles of the border? Is Johnson really suggesting that they should go through customs every time they pass these posts even if they haven't actually left their home country?

Breaking news from RTE in Dublin according to Sky.

The UK has proposed the creation of a string of customs posts along both sides of the Irish border as part of its effort to replace the backstop, RTÉ News understands.

The ideas, which would be highly controversial, are contained in proposals sent from London to the European Union - extracts of which have been seen by RTÉ News.

The proposals would effectively mean customs posts being erected on both sides of the border, but located perhaps five to ten miles 'back' from the actual land frontier.

Sky saying this is unlikely to be acceptable though.

It isn't acceptable to me, and that's kind of what matters.

That's even worse than custom posts on the border. You could get custom checked for travelling within your own country. That suggestion, no matter how detailed, will not work.
I wonder if Boris or Cummings came up with that daft idea or someone else.

They'd be called "customs clearance zones" and Boris will propose them to the EU tomorrow. Maybe he'll mention it in his speech on Wed to show he's trying for a deal and say the EU is refusing everything he offers.

And some of us who are Irish and live in NI would argue this happened with the original customs posts. I should be allowed to move anywhere on my island as an Irish citizen.

The UK and Ireland actually owe a lot to the EU in terms of peace. Strange how Brexshitters say everything is project fear and that the EU had nothing to do with peace. Huh.

Even *that* is a major acknowledgement from you - previously you've denied that Brexit has any legitimacy at all.

But even you admit that the idea is stupid. Putting forward ridiculous suggestions is even more of a waste of time than not making any suggestions at all.

Nonsense plan borne partially out of incompetence, but the actual purpose is to give Johnson the line 'well look I tried, it was the unreasonable EU and Remainers who frustrated my efforts' in the election campaign.

The EU and America were the unofficial 4th and 5th strands of the GFA!
