Reducing immigration has been a Tory policy for the last decade, with targets to reduce net immigration to below 100,000. It has yet to happen. What makes you think they'll manage to get it done in the next parliament?

Well, a decent working majority might help.

In Boris Johnson's seat, a Lord Buckethead is due to stand for the Monster Raving Looney Party. Interestingly, also running in the same election is Count Binface, who had previously stood as the Lord Buckethead character in the 2017 election in Theresa May's seat, and had to renounce his claim to the name for copyright reasons.

They make an amusing spectacle on election night, but otherwise they are just pointless.

And, without an open immigration policy you wouldn't have met or be allowed to live together...

Not necessarily - they might have met in her country, rather than here.

Haha at those Brexit Party imbeciles who were dumb enough to get fleeced by Nigel Farage. I hope they never see that money again, it's what they deserve for their sheer idiocy.

That's a little harsh.

What's so idiotic about joining a political party? I don't think he should re-imburse them though. They could do some leafletting for the Tories instead.

The Conservatives are due to make a manifesto pledge to re-open the railway stations closed in the 1960s.

I won't believe it until I get off the train at Stow-on-The-Wold, but as someone who's wanted to see the reversal of the actions of my mortal nemesis Dr Beeching, I am happy to see the re-expansion of the railways high on the political agenda. Now to see if Labour respond, and if any of the NI parties pledge to expand our networks, which ridiculously only service 3 of the six counties.

That will prove to be very tricky in a lot of cases. Or perhaps they are just pledging to reopen the stations even if there is no longer any railway track going past them.

I'm determined to see the day you can get a train from Derry to Sligo without travelling via Belfast, Dublin, cork and galway 😂

Surprised no one is discussing this.

Interestingly, thanks to research the government published, having one infrastructure provider (like this policy) is £12 billion cheaper than what we have now.

ISTM most people who want Broadband have already got it, and most of the rest will be elderly and/or technophobes - also, one based on BT would be slower than what I have now anyway...

Rural areas really need this. Broadband out in places like Cornwall has been torturous for years. It's an excellent policy, building in social mobility and better quality of life, broadband is just a vital part of life now. Like for job applicants.

There are so many other countries where you'd be surprised to find internet is better than in the UK - India for one. We're really behind on this because BT have been so slow with innovation and upgrading rural areas. Free market competition means rural areas get second-class service.

And how did she move over here? In 2019 the spouse has to be earning 25k p/a and jump through all kinds of other hoops.

This is good news. Let this be a lesson to others.

A man who threatened Change UK leader Anna Soubry, referencing the murdered MP Jo Cox, has been jailed for a year.

Alden Bryce Barlow, 55, of Milton Walk, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, sent a letter to Ms Soubry in her constituency in Nottingham.

The message read: "Cox was first, you are next" and referred to Ms Soubry as "treacherous" and "worthless".

He was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court and given a 10-year order preventing him from contacting Ms Soubry.

She was already here working for an Arab family when we met and got married in 1992. I was advised that even though the rules are exactly the same, it's better if they're already here as they'd be reluctant to deport a wife and mother. ;)

The income amount rule wasn't in then but you had to be able to support and accommodate "without recourse to public funds" I was on Incapacity Benefit but under the Immigration rules it's not classed as public funds as it's a contributory benefit. I know it's still a benefit but that's the law. We were scared stiff she'd be refused because of my Housing Benefit as that was classed as public funds but they thought we'd be okay as I was the claimant but was a bit of a grey area. The lady in UKIAS (United Kingdom Immigrants Advisory Service) in Leeds said "then we'll fight the decision at appeal for you" They knew all the rules. Anyway she got a visa for a year then indefinate stay then UK Citizenship. We did it all through the UKIAAS and didn't pay a solicitor. Two immigration officers visited us unannounced at 6am to make sure we were actually living together!

Hopefully a lesson for you as well — just weeks ago you were saying Gina Miller was to blame for any abuse she received.

I did not threaten her in any way though did I?

This is apparently every single party running a candidate in Great Britain, and how many seats they're contesting (doesn't include NI). I've a feeling that some have been overlooked, but it's pretty comprehensive at the moment -
