Do we expect this to get worse as we get closer to the election?

I saw that. With the billionaires terrified of anything not authoritarian right wing neoliberalism, they WILL continue their brainwashing campaigns, helped by BBTory.

Love this article! The 70s insult no longer works, as the technology behind Labour's biggest policy wasn't even around then, and is decidedly modern!

What - nationisation?

Vetting tends to be cursory for candidates in seats where a party has no chance of winning.
Aberdeen North is the ONLY seat in the whole of NE Scotland the Tories didn’t take in 2017. Given that it’s the only remaining nationalist seat the Tories are gunning for it.

I’m really enjoying the ITV debate. Corbyn is totally owning Johnson. He does need to straighten his glasses though ngl 😂😂
Tbf as much as I am not keen on Corbyn, I've zero idea why his plan to make 4 day weeks is being jeered with such aggro from many people. I agree a strict 32 working week (I mean some companies contract you from 33 all the way to 48 hours a week in private sector as it is) in principle does not work for all. But some variation is not a bad idea at all. For starters absolutely jack all work gets done in most sectors past 1pm on a Friday, I can tell you that for a fact.

I think it was fairly even and doubt it'll change many voters minds or help the undecided to decide,

Nigh on 80% are saying Corbyn smashed the Great Bloated Etonian! He destroyed the posh bumbling clown.

I know in my sector working week is already 35 hours, not 40. We'd be losing 3 hours and gaining a whole day to do other things instead of overloading infrastructure and shop/service workers to try and do everything on a Saturday.

I may have said it before but I'm looking to negotiate mine down anyway so I'll be a test case for you all of how it goes.

As for the debate my brief thoughts:

Corbyn wasn't 100% and wasn't as cutting as he could have been, but he got all his talking points in and was respectful to the host, the format, the studio audience and the audience watching. Whereas Johnson blustered through, spoke over the host to really what I thought was a ridiculous and rude amount, seemed very unprepared on facts and figures, had an odd delivery, told what seemed to be several outright lies (notably, insisting it was 40 hospitals they were funding, and then when Corbyn challenged him, pivoted to it being 'at least 20'), and kept pivoting every discussion back to 'Get Brexit Done'.

If I was scoring them out of 10 I'd say Corbyn 7, Boris 2 or so. Really the whole affair laid Boris out to, in this opportunity to prepare and argue substantially, seem very underprepared, especially as the incumbent PM. I also found it very disrespectful given that it was meant to be a debate how he spent a lot of time talking about Corbyn as if he wasn't in the room.

By contrast I felt that Corbyn connected well and was respectful and seemed to value each of the audience members that spoke.

Problem is that this isn’t a normal election and Johnson is just saying soundbites that he knows a significant proportion of voters want to hear which is why he referred every tiny little thing back to the B word.
Tbh I think this is the new normal now. 2016 changed things on both sides of the Atlantic. Lying with impunity, soundbites, the media and everyone being in on it - that's the game now. You think come 2020 after this election its all going to revert? Only by force will it.

You hope :P

I didn't watch them, but then again I don't need to, to predict MM's reaction to it. :teresa:
One seat worth keeping an eye out for is Ashfield. It has been held by Labour with a majority of less than 1000 over the Tories, although the favourite to win the seat is a member of the Ashfield Independent grouping, who’ve been successful on a local level. It’s also the seat where the Tory candidate made some rather unfortunate remarks involving tents.

Intriguing enough comment for me to google it.

Speaking as someone whose stance is near draconian on crime & punishment, it doesn't bother me as much as it might others.

Only mentioning tents belies its seriousness. He describes forced labour camps... pretty literally. Certainly someone I hope does not become an MP.

Tory candidate suspended over anti-Semitism - The Conservative candidate for Leeds North East has been suspended by the party for making anti-Semitic comments

Also.... The Liberal Democrats have confirmed they are suspending their hopeful in Birmingham Hodge Hill, Waheed Rafiq, over anti-Semitic social media posts

It's almost as if there's pockets of antisemitism in every party and it's not just a Labour problem. Can't wait for the media to accurately reflect this.
