Posted October 31, 20195 yr If mods would be happier with this topic being in R&B, that's ok! I thought it would be a nice idea to have a general topic for this iconic song. 2019 marks 25 years since Mariah released her tremendously successful Christmas single 'All I Want for Christmas Is You'! It appears that Mariah is aiming for the song to finally reach #1 in the US, with the help of some brand new physical singles! It's being released on CD, red cassette, green cassette, 7" vinyl and 12" vinyl, with a shipping date of 20th December. This will coincide with the chart week that Mariah would be most likely be able to climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. If anyone is interested in ordering them, they're available here: https://mariahcareyshop.com/collections/featured-items It would be incredible if it manages to reach #1 there (prior to now its best position was #3, achieved last year). It would also become her 19th #1 hit overall. Fingers crossed! *.* In the UK, chart fans will know that the single has stalled at #2 in three different years. 1994: East 17 - Stay Another Day / 2017: Ed Sheeran - Perfect / 2018: Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho (she outsold Mariah by just 152 sales  ). Could this year be the year Mariah manages #1? Physicals are also being released here, but only the 7" vinyl & green cassette: https://mariahcareyshopuk.com/ Mariah is the new face of Walkers Crisps this year! *.* It seems that TV adverts will begin airing from November 2nd, and her face will appear on packets. Iconic!! @1187701837438377985
October 31, 20195 yr Her face is on the packets when Spice Girls weren't earlier this year?!?!? :nono: :nono: :nono:
October 31, 20195 yr Pre-ordered the 7” and cassette from the UK website - I’m here for a Christmas Mariah #1 in 2019 :cheer: The Walkers promo and ads should help massively with streaming, the record company could request it being reset as a new release to get the sales if they are releasing new physicals?!
October 31, 20195 yr The physicals are an excellent idea and Mariah should promote where possible in both the US and UK as combined, it could help the song to finally go Number 1 which would be richly deserved. With the George Michael Bio out this year, it could put Last Christmas with the advantage for Wham. Maybe both could have a week at Number 1 but I would greatly welcome Mariah more to do it. Mariah was completely robbed of Number 1 last year.
October 31, 20195 yr This year is her best chance yet to go #1, as long as we don't get a big December release from Adele or Ed Sheeran I think she should do it. She'll have huge streams from Fri 20th to Wed 25th, then Thursday's will be estimated (I suspect they'll be using previous year's Boxing Day trends, but last year she was still as high as #4 on Spotify then). Of course there's the possibility that Wham could do it as well but that would also be a great result.
October 31, 20195 yr So is she definitely NOT gonna be on ACR this year then? Seems like a very solid shout then although she wasn't on ACR in 2017 either but the days line up better this time. Edited October 31, 20195 yr by dobbo
October 31, 20195 yr When are the physicals out in the UK? The Christmas #1 will be revealed on the 20th this year
October 31, 20195 yr So is she definitely NOT gonna be on ACR this year then? Seems like a very solid shout then although she wasn't on ACR in 2017 either but the days line up better this time. She will be unless someone on team Mariah goes out of their way for it to not be. I reckon it'll get the #1 this year regardless though and it'll have plenty more chances to go to #1 again in future years unless the OCC really go nuclear against Christmas songs for whatever reason.
October 31, 20195 yr Author When are the physicals out in the UK? The Christmas #1 will be revealed on the 20th this year Oddly the UK store doesn't say when they're being sent out, but it wouldn't surprise me if they're dispatched on 20th December here too! Mariah's best chance for #1 is the week after Christmas #1. As Dan mentions, her streams will be at their strongest during that week: She'll have huge streams from Fri 20th to Wed 25th, then Thursday's will be estimated (I suspect they'll be using previous year's Boxing Day trends, but last year she was still as high as #4 on Spotify then). I'd love it if she could do it a week earlier and be Christmas #1 though
November 1, 20195 yr Author A new music video has been released today, consisting of previously unseen footage from the video shoot! T_aiaYkcSDo Get those extra video streams, Mimi *.*
November 1, 20195 yr This year really presents a strong opportunity for the song to get to Number 1. This could add real excitement to the Christmas chart, or the week following it.
November 1, 20195 yr It seems bizarre to think that I don't remember hearing this song at all until about 1999-2000 - it was big the year it was released (when I was slightly too young to be following chart music), but for most of the 1990s the kings of the Christmas songs were very much Slade and Wizzard, as they had been 20 years earlier. When it became the first song I downloaded on mp3 back in 2002, it still felt like an obscure forgotten classic that you'd only occasionally see on the odd music channel if they were having a festive marathon. I feel like 'Love Actually' (released November 2003) followed by the download boom was what got this very much onto the A-list, eventually ruling above everything by the end of that decade and into the next. Similar to how Fairytale of New York seemed to gain a lot more attention following two events - Kirsty MacColl's sad death in 2000, and the high-profile physical reissue of the song in 2005 which reached #3.
November 1, 20195 yr This is and probably always will be THE Christmas song for me. It's the only one of the usual classics I'll actively listen to because it simply brings me so much joy every single time. I'm giving it my first play of the year as I type this post, it's Mariah season for the next 2 months now *.* The gap of 152 sales last year still makes me feel sad, so I'm PRAYING this is the year that Mariah claims her rightful #1!!
November 1, 20195 yr It is always the Christmas song i enjoy the most, it has everything that is needed for the classic Christmas hit and none of the other songs come close to it. There are others i enjoy, but, not to the same level as the joyful All I Want For Christmas Is You.
November 1, 20195 yr Tempted to get a vinyl as I don't have any Christmas music in my collection and I'd enjoy seeing this re-peak a whole 25 years later *.*
