November 7, 20195 yr 'Wish You Were Here' is stunning  I found the 'Goodbye Lullaby' project a significant step down from her first three albums but that is a real gem from it. 'Hot' and 'Mobile' are also highlights since I last commented - didn't really care much for the rest.
November 7, 20195 yr I love how she goes off in the final chorus. Enough for me to have it on repeat a few times. Off topic but would anyone want to do a Kelly Clarkson singles rate???? Edited November 7, 20195 yr by Prettylittlebry
November 8, 20195 yr 'Mobile' is forever underrated  'Wish You Were Here' is somewhat basic lyrically but still really gets me in the feels. Glad it was a single!
November 8, 20195 yr Author Right now, I feel invisible to you like I'm not real #14. Losing Grip | Avg.7.75 LOcKckBLouM Highest Scores: 11: (Vibe) 10: (gavindeejay, troublepink, Tawdry Hepburn, Bill Cipher), Lowest Scores: 3: (Euphorique) At #14 we have a bit of early Avril with "Losing Grip", released in April 2003 as the 4th and final single from her debut album "Let Go", and has a heavier grunge oriented sound than the previous singles & less pop than most of the album which was why it was only a modest success when compared to the massive previous singles with top 20 peaks in Australia & Ireland & hit the top 30 in the UK & peaked at #64 in the USA. This song is a definite trademark example of Avril's talent as a vocalist especially on the roaring chorus where at even this early stage in her career she can show how diverse she is with her range. Even the music fits fantastically with the lyrics as the production like the rest of the album is stunning. She could have easily gone with something more commercial to gain another smash hit (as almost any track on the album could have been a hit), but she decided to take a risk and it totally works from an artistic perspective.
November 8, 20195 yr oh really like Losing Grip, definitely not as good as her first 3 singles but still better than most of her recent output
November 8, 20195 yr I remember being surprised when I found out that 'Losing Grip' was a single! I do love it, but it doesn't scream obvious smash like the 'Complicated', 'I'm With You' and 'Sk8er Boi' trio. The grunge style was an interesting lane for her.
November 8, 20195 yr 'Losing Grip' is one of her best! :( It's even my favourite of the singles from her debut album. Although I do think its lack of chart success was 100% down to it being the 4th single from an album that had sold bucketloads of copies. Edited November 8, 20195 yr by Tawdry Hepburn
November 8, 20195 yr This entire rate is just making me realise how much I liked Avril during the earlier years — and how much she lost me after Girlfriend.
November 8, 20195 yr Author I'll have to kick your ass and make you never forget #13. Don't Tell Me | Avg.7.857 zMbIipvQL0c Highest Scores: 10: (SamJudd, BiLLYx, JosephStyles, Doug, Eduardo, Riser), Lowest Scores: -1: (Tawdry Hepburn) At #13 is the brilliant "Don't Tell Me", released in March 2004 as the lead single from her 2nd studio album "Under My Skin". She had a lot to prove with this as considering her debut & its iconic singles did so well & luckily she kept the momentum going as this along with the album became a smash hit worldwide with top 5 peaks in UK & Canada, as well as top 10 in several other countries. In the U.S. it was slight disappointment by only managing a #22 peak, but that wouldn't stop the album from topping the charts there with 381,000 units sold in its first week , plus she would bounce back with the 2nd single anyway so all's good. This is definitely one of my personal faves from her as it continues the darker grunge feel of the last single but done with a lot more polish & far better in my opinion. I really like the slow and quiet start, before it builds up to the defiant rock chorus where you can really feel the anger and impact of her vocals on this, which not only makes this one of her best & most underrated offerings, but a natural progression into a new era.
November 8, 20195 yr Losing Grip is... not one of Avril's best, it's borderline shouty unfortunately. Don't Tell Me on the other hand is brilliant, one of the songs that helped me get into Avril in the first place  amazed that it could be deemed offensive enough to get a -1? :o
November 8, 20195 yr Author Another CLUE!, the next will be a 2nd single - there are 5 possible choices, but which one will it be?
November 8, 20195 yr I definitely feel like 'My Happy Ending' should've been the lead single for the 'Under My Skin' era but I do love all the singles from it
November 8, 20195 yr I wish I voted on this. She really was one of my favourite artists growing up and her first three albums are all pretty good. My faves all remain but from what’s left already Don’t Tell Me I love and I always liked Hot too. Avril really reminds me of Taylor Swift musically  well 1989/Lover era Taylor is similar to Best Damn Thing era Avril. Shake it off and you need to calm down sound very Avril to me and Girlfriend fits Taylor to a tee
November 9, 20195 yr Back in the day, releasing Don't Tell Me as lead single from album 2 was such a weird choice, a kinda weak and disappointing comeback single when the album had much better tracks (Nobody's home, my happy ending)... didn't do bad in the UK but underperformed in the US
