#12. Smile | Avg.8.035

Highest Scores: 11: (Dexton) 10: (gavindeejay, George.keh, PearlyGirl, DJHazey, Doug), Lowest Scores: 5: (blacksquare, Jay, Simon)

At #12 we have "Smile" which was released in April 2011 as the 2nd single from her 4th studio album "Goodbye Lullaby". Avril asked her fans on Twitter to choose between this and "Push" for the next single, and obviously "Smile" won out, despite reports that she was fighting for the latter track to be released, which sadly never happened. Upon release the song was a moderate success with top 40 peaks in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Austria & Germany, along with minor peaks in Canada & USA. In the UK it bombed at #189 despite a performance on Britain's Got Talent (WTF!), making it her lowest charting single to date & plus it wasn't released to radio which probably didn't help either. Probably one of her lesser known singles, but has done very well on here with several high scores. It's a fun track full of punchy verses & powerful pop/punk choruses which gives it a very uplifting feel, although the difference between the shouty verses & careful chorus does give the song a somewhat disjointed feel but the uses of heavy guitars & frenzied drum beats does give a spontaneous feel to the whole thing. Not quite up there with her best, but still a decent effort.

I must say, Smile is one of my all time Avril faves. Goodbye Lullaby was probably the first album I ever listened to in full and I was in LOVE with how rock she was to me!

#11. Rock N' Roll | Avg.8.125

Highest Scores: 11: (Tawdry Hepburn) 10: (SamJudd, Tones and Iz, JosephStyles, Bill Cipher, DJHazey), Lowest Scores: 4: (Bjork)

Just outside the top 10 at #11 we say goodbye to the last of Avril's "self-titled" era singles "Rock N' Roll", released in August 2013 as the 2nd single from her 5th studio album & received praise from critics but was only a modest success worldwide with a top 40 peak in Canada, top 50 in Australia & Italy, along with low peaks in the UK & USA at #68 & #91 respectively. This follows in the same vein as the lead single only far better in my opinion with its stadium rock/pop flavour, electric guitar power chords are synchronised to a thundering full drum kit & all of which are wrapped up in some wonderful glossy production. Although this isn't anything new for Avril at this point her career or bring any new fans to her music, but its a brilliant anthem; a treat for any fans of Avril's music.

#10. Girlfriend | Avg.8.41

Highest Scores: 10: (SamJudd, gavindeejay, Cqmeron, George.keh, Dexton, Jay, JosephStyles, Bloodjerdling), Lowest Scores: 3: (blacksquare)

At the #10 spot we have the biggest of Avril's career "Girlfriend", released in February 2007 as the lead single from her 3rd studio album "The Best Damn Thing". The song received positive reviews and was a worldwide smash by topping the charts in several countries including Australia, New Zealand and in the USA (her first & only chart topper to date). On the UK Single chart it peaked at #2 which was also her highest peak there & her biggest selling single with 28 weeks in the top 40 and becoming the 20th best seller of the year. I'm sure everybody knows about the lawsuit by now so I'm not gonna talk about that: but do agree that there were definite similarities with "I Wanna Be Your Boyfirend" & Dr Luke has made a career of ripping off other peoples work. All that aside the song does have an insanely catchy hook with its chant-like chorus & very fun and quite edgy lyrics; I also love at how unapologetic it is where she doesn't mince words she just wants your boyfriend. While the pop/punk sound's still in there, this do stray more towards pure pop & quite a stark contrast to her last album with its much lighter sound (maybe that's what put a lot of her fans off). I didn't mind as I found this one hell of a blast even if this was the last time Avril would be relevant.

Really gutted I forgot to vote but will do a quick recap!

Almost every song minus here’s to never growing up deserved to miss the bottom 15. ‘Smile’ also deserved to finish top 10, easily one of her best.

oh Girlfriend #10 is a shock, was expecting a top 3 finish, or at least top 5
I'll never forget the disappointment I felt listening to 'Girlfriend' for the first time. 'Under My Skin' was a really special album for me and 'Girlfriend' was everything I didn't want from her.

#9. Keep Holding On | Avg.8.428

Highest Scores: 11: (Euphorique, DJHazey) 10: (troublepink, PearlyGirl, Bill Cipher), Lowest Scores: 5: (Tones and Iz)

At #9 is the power ballad "Keep Holding On", released in November 2006 and is the theme song for the 2006 Fantasy movie "Eragon", then later added to her 3rd studio album "The Best Damn Thing" the following year. Despite the movie being panned by critics & tanking at the box office, the song was well received critically and commercially by reaching a #17 peak in the USA (becoming her 5th top 20 hit there) & #14 in Canada. It wasn't given a worldwide release but it did manage to make a small dent on the UK charts at #175 in 2007, then in 2011 managed to reach a new peak of #141 thanks to digital downloads. This was a more than welcome addition to her 3rd album as it's simply stunning with some great strumming guitars, beautiful strings & violins and some amazing soaring vocals that really shows of Avril's range, she always knows how to nail a ballad with some great melodies. While it does lean more towards pop than her previous releases up to this point, its still a powerful piece that gives a calm ending to the album. Shame it wasn't given a proper release worldwide as surely it would have smashed & been up there with her classics.

Wish You Were Here too low, should have been top5

Agreed
