My problem is not the hour, which is perfect out here, it's finding a good way to watch the coverage from where I am. If that's sorted, all I have to do is set my alarm for slightly earlier than normal to catch the exit poll live and then I can make a morning of it (I don't work Friday mornings).

Dreading the exit poll not for what it'll predict but that it will inevitably be read off the headlines by the BBC as 'Conservatives are the largest party' even if our best dreams come true and the overall result from that exit poll is more likely to be a Labour minority government.

I don't think it's a rule that she has to resign as leader (although she did have to be an MP to have been elected one), but I couldn't see how she could lead the party if she's no longer in the Commons. Of course, there's still the possibility she holds on to her seat.

It would be hilarious if she lost it. From "The next Prime Minister" to losing her seat. Well worth staying up for to see her face!

This is the first time I've had a full-time job while an election has taken place, so with needing to be up early and not feeling particularly hopeful about this outcome, I'll probably sit this one out live and just check the following morning.
I'm meant to be working and with having no annual leave left I will prob watch it all night and phone in sick the next morning however if it's totally terrible I may go to bed at 1.30 or so and just go on in the next morning as I usually am in bed late on a Thursday night with QT being on.

Almost as good as seeing your face once Johnson and his majority force you back to work or take away your benefits ! :D

I didn't really plan to stay up all night watching the last election but I did anyway because of the pleasant surprise in the exit poll. I'm feeling the same way this time, if the exit poll forecasts a Tory landslide then I don't feel like I have much interest in staying up and intently watching it unfold in real time. Although realistically I have little else better to do so maybe I would anyway.

Hopefully this'll be the last election night which I'll be unemployed for lol xx

Imagine watching all those pompous toffs with smiles on their faces wondering how they can destroy more poor people's lives in the next 5 years - horrible!

But that's why these scum come into politics unfort as Alan Johnson said as shadow chancellor said during his budget response in 2011!

Oh right. Does it get busy? Do many stay up then? Don't think I've been on here before at an election result time. Probably was on a certain other big forum which usually goes crashes as it's overloaded. :(

The last time I did that was 1997 - Portillo was a highlight. :P

The polls would have to be far more wrong than even in 2017 for that to happen - maybe 5% wrong!

To be honest I hope the exit poll at 10 doesn't show a big Tory majority as it'll ruin the excitement really.

They say Swinson is very likely now to lose her seat. The SNP are fairly confident of taking it and the feeling on the ground is that they will or else it'll be very close.

Would she have to resign as leader straight away if she was no longer an MP? Asked before but nobody answered. Does the Lib-Dem leader have to be an MP?

Then I suggest "they" all get down to Ladbrokes and put t heir money where their mouths are. She remains clear favourite to win her seat.

“”””””They”””””” unseated her once already

I won’t be joining on election night. I haven’t got a wifi connection sorted yet or anything that would allow me to stream the results as they come in. I also don’t particularly care. Country is f***ed whatever happens but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we can deprive Boris of the majority he craves

You still haven't answered my quesstion. Would she have to resign as leader? She couldn't put her allotted questions to the PM at PMQ's.

The Lib Dems don't currently have any allotted questions. Only Labour and SNP have had that in the last two parliaments.

Candidates for the leadership have to be an MP. An attempt to change that was defeated earlier this year. Realistically, any leader who lost their seat would have to resign.

Now, how about going back through a few threads and answering all those questions you have left unanswered?

I believe there have been party leaders who've lost their seats before - they usually bribe some safe seat sucker with a Lords seat, and have a byelection.

The days when parties can try that trick with any confidence are long gone.

On the basis of knowing how it's going to go, I won't be watching it no and will be avoiding social media the following day.
Famously Herbert Asquith did this but that was 100 years ago and clearly Lloyd George was the real leader at that stage.
I'm definitely going to be up all night for the election, as I'm going to be contributing to a local radio station's coverage of it!

You realise that won't change the result...

We have a star on board :o

I'm looking forward to it, it means I won't be able to follow it with the site though :(
