December 7, 20195 yr Author PERSEPHONIA Good evening from Persephonia, happy to be in the final with our ambient background noise for a second month in a row and for the last contest of the decade x thank you to Unovia for their hospitality and here are our votes ~ Our hand was a little forced by our favourite song of both semi 1 and semi 2 DNQing but our 18 goes to the song that was already a top 20 hit on the Persephonian charts before the contest began, that is from Aeroche who get our 18 for the third time in the last 5 contests and the 8th top score we've given them in total to date. 15 points go to a gloriously camp retro choice from Singerpurear (not the kind of song that's usually our thing but this one is connecting more for whatever reason x), their fourth time appearing in our medal positions and first since Vitalic's 13 in BJSC 94. Rounding out our top 3 with 13 points is Jadakissnia continuing their hot streak of late for us (minus Rompasso x), that's four medal positions in the last 5 contests, oh my #blocvoting. A brilliant little instrumental offering from them ~ A little less used to being near the top of our rankings, in fact making our top 10 of a final for the first time since we gave 8 points to Siobhan Donaghy way back in BJSC 46 (!), though they've appeared in the 11th-15th section of our votes six other times since then, it's 12 points to a massive banger from République d'Áskorza. 11 points go to a slightly Burial-flavoured tune from Danæviia, a lovely piano instrumental from Terra Avium gets our 10 points and host nation Unovia pick up 9 points with a great Taahino-esque rock entry. There's more retro representation from Harmonica picking up 8 points with a song that sounds very much of its time but in the best way possible (and it's the second most points we've ever given Harmonica only behind the 12 we gave to Sleigh Bells back in BJSC 84, although we also ranked HOLYCHILD in BJSC 73 one place higher than this one though it was only worth 4 points at the time). 7 points go to a cute earwormy bop from Holland-Oats which single-handedly octuples the number of points we've given them (having only previously given them 1 point for Petit Biscuit in BJSC 110) and 6 points go to Deandria whose ~vague~ ~vibey~ song went up and down a bit in our affections but ended on a high note in our final listenthrough, yay. Filling out the mealworm points: 5 points to Land of DW who probably get our nod for biggest grower of the contest, 4 points to a third retro song this time from Rolloland, 3 to a potential winner (maybe) from Fljótavík, a surprise 2 points to Dobago marking only the second time (that I remember) that we've voted for a country song in the main contest (Dobago just on such a hot streak for us atm that they get points even when going country!) and 1 point to Altyr Muunilinst, another country that we don't vote for too often (this song could have been so much better if the chorus was a bit longer but it's still just good enough to scrape in). December 7, 20195 yr I didn't think 'Sisters' was as doomed as some did but I am rather shocked to see it as high as the top 5 at the moment...! I suppose it does stand out quite a bit but who knew there was such a market for Gareth Malone esque entries :lol: Aeroche and FARC pretty even so far, that EOY #1 battle could still easily go either way.
