June 6, 20205 yr 18 Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - Live It Up | 2013 | EOY Peak: 3 Flashback to 2013 when Mr Worldwide, RedOne and the beautiful Jennifer Lopez came back for a threepeat. On the Floor and Dance Again were both huge tunes, but Live It Up actually became my favourite of them all (and my fave J-Lo song overall). It's just so much fun, and defined summer 2013 for sure.Don't forget that it defined New Year's 2019 too!!!1 *.* NFG7cKNXlPU

I was always a big Rita fan, and even with Your Song and Lonely Together smashing, I wasn't sure how her fortunes would hold up. I did not expect Anywhere to come along and become her biggest hit yet, but honestly, it totally deserved it. It's a HUGE song, and I adored it so much from first play. The chorus is glorious, the drop is euphoric, and has she ever sounded better? A true pop moment, and it's such a shame it never managed a moment at #1 officially! I suppose it made up for it in my chart, where it matched the record for consecutive weeks at #1, managing a huge 6. End of Year History Rita Ora 2012 | 028 | How We Do (Party) 2012 | 065 | R.I.P. My favourite track by them ends up as 2011's second highest track, and rightfully so. I remember SO vividly the moment I first heard Notorious. I downloaded it at about 3am, getting up extra early for the Spanish trip I was attending for the four days that followed. I put it onto my MP3 player so I could enjoy it while I was away, and that I just did. It defined my trip for sure, and it's held up as their very best for me. It's unique, standout, and the music video is one of their very best too! June 6, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 12 Reed Deming - Crash Test Dummy (Broken) | 2014 | EOY Peak: 3 I stumbled on this song somewhat by accident. I was browsing through iTunes recommendations, and I found two songs - one was A Girl Like You by Daniel J (a cute bop from someone I've not heard from since), and the other was this. I'd never heard of Reed Deming before, but at the time, he was 15 years old (he's now 21). Crash Test Dummy instantly struck a chord with me. Firstly, it was so mature. It's a song about questioning yourself, who you are, what you want, and whether other people will accept you even if you consider yourself "broken." It's a beautifully special song and he never topped it, but the parent EP Satellites was really great and he's continued to sporadically release music since (some better than others...!). I remember finding this track on the old josepvinaixa blog - a brilliant site for music discoveries that I very much miss! The track quickly soared to #2 in my chart, getting stuck unluckily behind Delta Goodrem's Wings and One Direction's Drag Me Down, before finally sneaking a week of its own a little further down the line. It's a gigantic pop anthem with one of the biggest choruses of any song on this list. Parent album Fingerprints became my top album of 2016, and he achieved two further #1s with Unbreakable and Bad Luck Love. Nowadays he releases Swedish-language singles only and he's kinda fallen off my radar, but Naarmuja was a bop x End of Year Chart History Benjamin 2015 | 003 | Young and Restless 2015 | 017 | Unbreakable 2016 | 017 | Man On the Moon (feat. June 7, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 10 Alyssa Reid - Alone Again | 2012 | EOY Peak: 2 Though she's very much a one-hit wonder in the eyes of the UK public, Alyssa Reid's journey only just started with this particular track. Credited only to Alyssa, primarily because the version I've listened to the most (by far) is her solo "Pt. 2" version, Alone Again was released in the UK featuring the Jump Smokers, annoyingly taking over not one but two of her original verses. I don't mind that version at all but it's a shame to lose two well-written original verses in what's otherwise a rework of a cover. The track spent 5 weeks at #1 in my chart, all doubled up with parent album The Game, which went on to get three more. I still adore the track, and though Alyssa has LOADS of solid tracks, this will always be her best. June 7, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 9 Ulrik Munther - Tell the World I'm Here | 2013 | EOY Peak: 2 At the end of 2012, I'd never heard the name Ulrik Munther before. Just a month later, he had achieved a #1 single and album, and by the end of the year, he secured my top 2 songs of 2013, and the top album of the year too. The initial impact of Ulrik was quite unlike almost any other artist I've gotten into, but I'll delve more into that later as he's got another song to come - the only artist with two songs in the top 10! Tell the World I'm Here came about a month later, as Ulrik's second Melodifestivalen track. I remember watching the show for the first time to hear the song's premiere - it was the first new music he put out since I discovered his debut - and I instantly loved it. It's a huge, soaring, stadium-ready anthem with stellar production, and Ulrik sounds SO good. The track became his second #1 in just two months, and is the actual biggest song of 2013 (as Heroes In Defeat was a couple of years old by the time I discovered it!). June 7, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 8 Why Don't We - Hooked | 2018 | EOY Peak: 1 One of two boyband songs in the top 10, Why Don't We's highest track by far ended 2018 as my #1 song of the year. Quite impressive when just a year before, the only credit to their name was #40 hit These Girls in my chart. With Trust Fund Baby becoming their first #1 in February 2018, and These Girls reaching a new peak of #10, the next WDW release was hotly anticipated. I'd already seen them live at their first London headline show, and I really, truly loved it. There's no show quite like a Why Don't We concert. Hooked came less than two weeks after that show, arriving in early June. Instantly, I ADORED it. The chorus is the best part, with Jack (my favourite member) on lead vocals for this track. He sounds incredible, as do all five of them, they each get a moment to shine on this track. The video's really great, too. The track spent four weeks at #1 in my chart, their longest stint at #1 by far, and helped them match the record for the most #1s by one artist in a calendar year (with four, but they later broke it with six in 2019!). Additionally, all four of those #1s finished in my EOY top 10 for 2018, and 8 Letters finished the year as my top album of 2018. I guess it's true - damn, I'm hooked. June 8, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 7 Oscar Enestad - I Love It | 2019 | EOY Peak: 1 The newest song in the whole top 20, former FO&O / The Fooo Conspiracy member Oscar Enestad stepped out on his own in late 2018. Debut single Heaven On My Skin didn't do loads for me, but when he was announced for Melodifestivalen 2019, I was still intrigued. His entry I Love It did surprisingly and unjustly awfully (bottom of its heat...!), especially when you consider how strong a pop song is. The track's rooted in Oscar's own relationship, with a woman 30 years his senior, but it can apply to any relationship where people may be disapproving. It's highly relatable, the the dance-pop production helps it stand out. It's by far and away his best solo track so far, and over a year on, I'm still not remotely bored of it. June 8, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 6 Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX - Fancy | 2014 | EOY Peak: 1 One of the biggest names across 2013-2015 for me was Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. The New Classic remains my favourite rap album (of the admittedly few I've heard, but it's still amazing), and she has a whopping seven #1 singles in my chart. A large chunk of them were pretty notable growers, though, and Fancy is the best example of this. In fact, I remember really not liking it on first play, so it actually didn't chart for me initially (Change Your Life, by comparison, debuted at #8 before eventually making #1 some weeks later). The music video changed it ALL though - Fancy finally entered at #5, before finally making #1 for just a single week two weeks later. It spent twenty consecutive weeks in my top 10 alone, and finished as the top song of the year. An incredible turnaround, and I still love it so much to this day. June 8, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 5 Frans - If I Were Sorry | 2016 | EOY Peak: 1 I didn't watch Melodifestivalen in full in 2016, just like I hadn't the previous couple of years, so I'm not really sure how I ended up hearing this song for the first time, but I instantly knew it was special. Frans Jeppsson-Wall has a vocal like nobody else I've heard, almost talk-singing, and it adds a cute, quirky quality to the brilliantly on-trend If I Were Sorry. The track debuted at #2 in my chart behind Fifth Harmony's Work from Home, but overtook a week later. It spent 4 consecutive weeks there, and a fifth after its Eurovision exposure. I'd call it my favourite Eurovision track, and definitely my favourite Melodifestivalen winner. Since, Frans scored a second #1 hit with Young Like Us, and a #2 hit with One Floor Down at the start of 2019, so he's still vaguely on my radar...! June 9, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 4 Harry Styles - Sign of the Times | 2017 | EOY Peak: 1 One of my most anticipated songs of all-time, Harry Styles would've had to go SERIOUSLY wrong for me not to love his debut single. However, he really couldn't have gone more right. I remember the first time I heard it - I wasn't working at the time, so woke up extra early to hear the radio premiere as well as Harry's interview with Nick Grimshaw. It was a nervous wait but god, it was so worth it. Clocking in at almost six minutes, Sign of the Times is a soaring power ballad which builds and builds as it goes on. Harry sounds incredible, and the song never fails to give me goosebumps. The final chorus and outro is perfection. It's a pretty heavy song so it's probably got a lower play count than the tracks surrounding it in this countdown (also because of its length), but every single play is so special. It spent three weeks at #1 in my chart, and of course finished the year as my #1 song of 2017. June 9, 20205 yr Author Decade: Top 200 Songs 3 One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful | 2011 | EOY Peak: xx Though Ulrik Munther is technically the only artist with two appearances in my top 10, Harry Styles also appears twice - once solo, and once as part of One Direction. Of course, 1D's debut release had to be their highest here. What Makes You Beautiful took me by surprise even though I was a fan of the group on the show - I simply loved it from the start and didn't expect to be quite so obsessed! It really did kickstart everything that came later. I remember listening to it for the first time from a radio rip that I downloaded, while on holiday, from my sister's laptop and put onto my phone  It became one of the defining songs of my holiday, and holds up now as my top song of 2011.
