the total for Mariah on Spotify once halved translated into 26,750 sales, while Ava did 25,200... not even a 2k difference... double that considering the other outlets and you get 4-5k max... Ava did much better on iTunes to compensate that deficit, even only the gift card effect would have been enough

 

so imho Ava sounds like a right winner for last year

To be fair I think those Spotify numbers last year from Bjork include the actual 27 Dec streams which were very much in Ava's favour.

yes, that's the whole point, real data would have shown even a bigger difference in favour of Ava Max

 

so the conclusion based on real data is that the occ didn't do anything :D

Looks like yesterday, Mariah did almost 5 times the streams of Stormzy... will be very close... I hope MC gets it or Wham....

Last year, Ava's Spotify streams for 21-26 Dec were almost identical (0.99 times) to those of 14-19 Dec, whereas Mariah's were 1.65 times higher. Both their combined sales rose by higher rates between the same weeks, but consistently so: 1.15 for Ava, 1.81 for Mariah.

 

This year, Stormzy's Spotify streams for 20-25 Dec are 0.85 times those for 13-18 Dec, while Mariah's are 1.83 times higher.

 

So, is it realistic that if Stormzy's combined sales stay about the same this week as last (67,649) then Mariah's could be almost double last week's (36,781) which would mean...?

It's likely Ellie will drop quite quickly too tbf. It's a Christmas song and will be on amazons Xmas playlists. Hope it does well on other platforms next November.

They were counted to last weeks chart (and the majority of the vinyls sold out long before release date on pre-sale so I’m guessing if there are any left anywhere this week it will be single figures tbh).

Mariah will be top 10 next year, whereas Ellie won't! It's rhe chart for a month every year. It deserves the no.1 at least once.

Didn’t realise Ellie will be limited on playlist but still think it’s crazy a song from the 90s can potentially reach no1 due to streaming. It’s just obscure and would never have happened prior to the streaming era. At least Ellie is a new track albeit a cover!

It's good that it's been brought to popular attention by her.

 

The original also climbed into the iTunes top 50 this week.
