January 20, 20205 yr After Seyetana *.* Now my entry will sound like a masterpiece regardless!!!! Ironic, my entry is already a masterpiece. Welcome to the Year of the Rat, y’all. May it be gothic.

January 20, 20205 yr Okay but how did Supernature escape the veto I mean I love it and I'm definitely voting for it but it's one of the most iconic disco tracks of all time, and Buffalo Stance, also a tune but feels much less important/influential, got vetoed but not this??
January 20, 20205 yr So yes, I decided on what my anniversary entry was a few months ago (deciding to do a self artist recycle just this one time to celebrate pretty much the only Persephonia artist to go on to have some notable mainstream success after I sent them) but it's become even more of an appropriate choice since then because A) this contest has been timed perfectly to be happening right as they're finally getting a bonafide worldwide hit single (cheers TikTok) and B) they finally announced tour dates in the UK so it's now a hype entry for when me and Jade go to see them in May, hooray. Though I don't think this is a song they're likely to perform as it's just an album track from what is widely considered to be... not their best album (I think it's underrated x). I'd love to see this get some justice for 'GOLD' DNQing (Kevin Abstract had a top 10 BJSC hit with a solo track after I sent them but BH as a group haven't been sent again x), an all-male rap song with no chorus is not really a safe choice so I'm not expecting it but I encourage you all to listen closely as it has some very hard hitting lyrics (some of the best verses by all members involved) and a multi-phased instrumental that fits in both sombre orchestration and drum n bass. It's not my absolute favourite BROCKHAMPTON song (I'd rank it second behind 'JUNKY' but I've avoided that one because it was a single and also has the rather problematic Ameer Vann on it from before he got kicked out of the group, I don't need him tainting another entry of mine as much as I loved his verse on 'JUNKY', also 'WEIGHT' is essentially the post-Ameer-gate equivalent of 'JUNKY' thematically anyway). [/selfindulgentramblethatno1currabout] Most of the songs that I am already familiar with have landed in semi 2 as well - 6 songs I've already heard there and only 2 or 3 I think in semi 1 (none of which I remember very well). I hope there are at least a few people out there for whom 'Crab Rave' is a discovery as I was slightly iffy on letting that through the veto but it is an absolute banger so I'm here for it being here. Hype for Skall too. xx Okay but how did Supernature escape the veto I mean I love it and I'm definitely voting for it but it's one of the most iconic disco tracks of all time, and Buffalo Stance, also a tune but feels much less important/influential, got vetoed but not this?? Yeah I was aware that this was potentially iffy too what with it being a UK top 10 hit but it was tough for me to gauge as, anecdotally, I've never heard the song and hadn't even heard of the artist before him inexplicably being confirmed 3 times a couple of contests back. For what it's worth I was ok to let it slide because its number of YouTube/Spotify plays don't really indicate it being an enduring classic that people still listen to a lot - 'Buffalo Stance' has significantly higher numbers (and, anecdotally again, I know that song quite well while I don't know 'Supernature' at all). It might be one of those songs that's more influential than it is actually well-known? Or maybe everyone except me knows it and I goofed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (not that this was solely my decision obvz xx) (re Robinson/YONAKA as well, the Robinson song that won was a feature in a completely different genre to the rest of her music, I used similar logic to defend Bree Runway being sent again shortly after winning with 'Word Of Mouth' xx but certainly Robinson wasn't one that slipped through the veto framework easily)
January 20, 20205 yr fits in both sombre orchestration and drum n bass I'm sold x Orchestration mixed with electronic beats is one of my ultimate pleasures in music. Probably should find more of it  I hope there are at least a few people out there for whom 'Crab Rave' is a discovery as I was slightly iffy on letting that through the veto I have no idea what it is :P (Unless maybe it has been played on plug at some point?)
January 20, 20205 yr bold of you to assume I have faith in my entries after the clownery that happened last year You DNQd literally once. Quit yer havering
January 20, 20205 yr I have no idea what it is :P (Unless maybe it has been played on plug at some point?) It was quite a popular meme song in the real world, I don't think it got any attention on Buzzjack though.
January 20, 20205 yr It was quite a popular meme song in the real world, I don't think it got any attention on Buzzjack though. That was exactly why I had been considering it a lot last year, it is a tune tbf  I think the video has nearly 100m views now?
January 20, 20205 yr SPOTIFY Unavailable: Trifoski Unavailable: BøtanikkäThank you (as always) for these. But could you add UV's AQ to these please? :D
January 20, 20205 yr Ooh a Niceland recycle (would have been two if I actually got to send Cerrone boo) but don't actually think there's any songs in there I recognise! I also got Cerrone'd the other month so left it until a suitable amount of time had passed  On the plus side one of Singerpurear's former qualifiers is back - Reol. Swings & Roundabouts :)

It's an important track - but it's not actually that well-known, especially in the UK. It was a hit because it was featured on the Kenny Everett TV show, and was a club smash, but it never really got much radio airplay and is consequently not that well-remembered by people from that time never mind subsequent generations. It's never played on radio or TV so you have to actively search it out, and I was pretty sure most people won't have heard it before (I'd not heard it in decades). Plus it was co-written by Lene Lovich, and I liked the link to Bird Song, being part of a thread of several qualifiers with obscure oldies. Just for the record I dont enter to win (and never have) I enter to spread the love for records I love  I mean, I COULD try and win if I wanted to, I had Happy and Feel It Still down as potentials first week of release back in the day and opted out of them.... :kink:
January 20, 20205 yr Here is the link of the music video for Boom! - How Do You Do It works only if you're outside UK I think so. 23UGN3qqBWY
January 20, 20205 yr Thank you (as always) for these. But could you add UV's AQ to these please? :D it's in there, I just forgot to move it to the top of the playlist. done now.

Anecdotally, in France (where Cerrone is from) I'd put it on Donna Summer/Chic level. I'd heard it before then, in Scotland, but that's because a couple of my pals there are into disco music like a LOT, who also provided me with my trio of disco cheese entries, David Lyme, Bandolero and Mike Mareen. Also the synth in Supernature is so distinctive that it feels really familiar after only listening to it couple of times.
January 20, 20205 yr This has just prompted me to play the Cerrone by Bob Sinclar album, I haven't listened to it in years! *.*
