I'm shocked Boyfriend made it this high but I'm not complaining. It's a real fun tune with a good video.

 

I was disappointed that this was not performed on my tour date seeming that Social House were already there. :lol:

 

 

I quite like 'Boyfriend', with the smooth 90s R&B feel to it. But it's certainly not something I go back to much at all.

Boyfriend gets too much of a hard time, I really like it!

I wouldn't have minded it so much if they released more singles from thank u, next first and then released it as a deluxe track on a deluxe version or something. But it just seemed a bit unnecessary, it needed to be as good as most of the album tracks on thank u, next and it wouldn't say it was. Don't by any means hate it though, it's still a bop.

 

14 7.61 break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored

Released as part of the parent album thank u, next, break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored served as the third single just weeks after the release of 7 rings. It came with a music video in tow from the get-go, and as a result, it led to a barnstorming hat-trick of #1 debuts in the UK, as well as getting to #2 in the US. It wasn't quite as big a hit as those that preceded it, but it was a highly notable achievement, as Ariana replaced herself at #1 in the UK, then replaced herself again when 7 rings climbed back! The track is about Ariana meeting a boy at a party who's already taken, making the title pretty self-explanatory. I think it's a pretty fair position for the track, I really like it and I was so pleased it made #1!

I love 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' :wub: I remember thinking that it felt a little under-cooked on first listen, but was intrigued nonetheless, then from second listen onwards I was hooked :lol: the production is fantastic in particular! She was a smart girl dropping the video immediately - her singles chart success this era was just phenomenal, such as the replacing herself at #1 TWICE stat as mentioned in the commentary :heart:

It was so brilliant to see it continue her little #1 streak. Not bad for a late replacement to the album.

So glad that became a UK number one and finished relatively well here too!

I was pleasantly surprised by it's debut, it was definately a grower, like many I wasn't majorly keen on first listen.

 

13 7.79 Side To Side (feat. Nicki Minaj)

Unsurprisingly, the most popular collaboration with Nicki Minaj here is Side To Side. Nicki’s verse in particular appears to be a bit of a fan favourite and always goes off during the tour. People just seem to love the d**k bicycle line :lol: The song received plenty of tens and high scores but it is also the highest placed song to get a zero rating.

 

This was the biggest hit from the Dangerous Woman era, reaching #4 in both sides of the Atlantic. However, we’ve decided that both Into You and the album’s title track are better. A massive part of Side To Side’s appeal is its gym-themed music video that shows Ari & Nicki in a sauna and gave us the iconic shot of Ariana on the treadmill which was later recreated during the DWT. It is easily Ariana’s most viewed video on YouTube with over 1.7 billion views. She’s also appears on a treadmill for the Legally Blonde homage in the Thank U, Next video. Truly the queen of treadmills!

 

It's a really fun song but it's never been a true fave for me. Although I was so happy to see it become such a smash for her after the first 2 singles cruelly missed the top 10. The Dangerous Woman album was arguably her strongest and certainly deserved one huge single.

I was shocked to find out that 'Side To Side' finished that low! Definitely thought it'd be higher than 'Dangerous Woman' at least. Not complaining though as it is my least favourite 'Dangerous Woman' single oops, the video is fun but yeah the song has never done a lot for me, gave it an average score.

'Side To Side' being ahead of 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' is offensive x (glad that STS isn't top 10 anyway!)

Side To Side is her worst ever single for me oops. So generic and reliant on that “BOOOYYYYY”. Not for me

Shocked at a 0 for Side to Side. The hook is Nicki on it and the BOOYYY is great!

 

Boyfriend was Thank U Next but better for me.

Relieved that Side To Side isn’t top ten here! Not a bad song at all but not worthy of finishing that high, 13th feels about right.

STS is amazing. When I read that it was to be the 3rd single, I was unsure it'd work as one, but then it ended up being one of the most infectious ear worms of 2016. The music video, promo, everything was perfect for it :wub:

12 8.02 Dangerous Woman

Leaving 'Into You' as Buzzjack's favourite Dangerous Woman single (duh!), out next is said albums title track. Oozing with confidence, power and sex appeal, Dangerous Woman made such an impact on Ari that she decided to change the whole face of her 'Moonlight' project and it proved to be the perfect launch to her new era.

 

Ari debuted the song on SNL back in March 2016, where after it charted at #10 first week in the USA which made her the first female in Billboards history to have each of her lead singles debut top 10, it went on to peak at #8 there, with a 3x Platinum certification. It reached the top 20 in many countries including; the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Italy and Spain. It also made top 10 in Canada where it was certified 3x Platinum.

 

There were plans for a second music video however Ariana had a very busy schedule (as always) and ran out of time to shoot the video. Charlie Puth provided background vocals and beat box effects but is not credited.

 

It's the first track out to get an average score of over 8. :wub:
