February 23, 20205 yr Author 08 d-OBAXHfgqE NOTORIOUS [7.52] Highest: LMLou, JosephInSpace, *Callum & Jack (11); ThePensmith, George.keh, girlsaloudjunkie, Prettylittlebry & Jay (10) + Adam (09.5) Lowest: Cameron (11); *CENSORED* (00); Bre & ElectroBoy (03) + Jester & Chez Wombat (04) Up next is the girls lead single from their 3rd (and best) album On Your Radar, Notorious. This electro pop banger was very different for them at the time and I feel like it was the one that really showed them off as performers especially that 'So You Think You Can Dance' performance. This went on to be another top 10 for them but iirc it was one of the first "On Air/On Sale" releases (most certainly their first one) and initially it underwhelmed, but I think it ended up remaining quite stable and having a decent chart run in the end, but it's next highest position after peaking at #8 in the opening week, was #18! It's such a bop though. It reminds me a lot of 'The Show' by Girls Aloud.
February 23, 20205 yr Just re-listening to Notorious now... it really is bad isn't it! no hook whatsoever and quite boring. The Show >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Notorious
February 23, 20205 yr Hate 'Issues' so so so much, it's like a bad Atomic Kitten b-side with toe-curlingly awful lyrics. Yuck. 'Not Giving Up' on the other hand is a beast, it deserved better but I understand why it didn't perform greatly given the position they were in at that point. 'Notorious' is alright, I sometimes enjoy it but it probably ranks fairly lowly in their singles for me.
February 24, 20205 yr I really like Issues, it's so cute and catchy! It reminds me of when my friends and I went to see them perform a few times at club nights/shopping centres, and as Girls Aloud's support act, in 2008. It was always in their set lists well in advance of it becoming a single. I thought back then that it would be a nice single, so I was happy when it was eventually confirmed. It did really well as a post album single to climb to its #4 peak! That wasn't even its physical release week, that occurred the week before when it placed at #6. I also find it pretty notable that Issues peaked at #4 in the same week that Beyoncé's Single Ladies peaked at #7, and also when Girls Aloud only managed to get to #10 with The Loving Kind! I also appreciate Issues for truly establishing them, it felt like they were here to stay when it smashed. It even revived their album to the extent of it going into the Top 10, which was great considering that a few weeks earlier it had fallen to the bottom of the Top 100! I too would compare Issues to Atomic Kitten, but in a more complimentary way. It's got a similar vibe to singles like It's OK and Love Doesn't Have to Hurt, breezy sounding midtempos. ~~~~~ Notorious is one of my favourites by them, it's so unique and memorable! It did feel a bit out there and quirky for The Saturdays, like Girls Aloud often were with their singles. I'm glad it managed a #8 peak with the then risky strategy of On Air On Sale. Sometimes I wonder how it would have done if it had had a traditional 6 week build up before release. I could imagine a higher peak, possibly Top 5, but a much shorter chart life.
February 24, 20205 yr Author 07 JjDjxLTr5qg WORK [7.71] Highest: LMLou, Prettylittlebry, Jester & Lukuzz (10); Cameron & *Callum (09.5) + Jade, SevenSeize, George.keh, Tawdry Hepburn, Juliano, Adam, BiLLYx, Davidson & SamJudd (09) Lowest: Mullo, *CENSORED* & Chez Wombat (04); Mikee1981 (05.5) + slowdown73, Jordan Lee, Herbs, ...ready for it & vibe (06) At #7 is the final single from the girls first era, Work. It was one of 3 viable options left, imo. This, Set Me Off & the title track off of the album Chasing Lights. They opted for the major fan favourite. The video is so good. The choreo *.* The song, again I find it a tad overrated and I never really go back to it when I'm in a Sats sesh. However, when it is on I bop to it! Also, it gave us one of the most iconic moments in a live performance from the 00's... THAT Mollie "note" on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway *.* Incredible.
February 24, 20205 yr I wasn't a fan at all of NGU when it first came out but it's slowly become one of my favourite of their songs. Although once again the video shows the girls are terrible with synced choreo! I remember back around Higher they kept releasing videos with minimal choreo to cover that. Obv a girlband doesn't NEED to have good dancers...but there was always the impression that they might not even be doing training :') Anyway I always remember the This Morning performance of it too - the choreo was so strange oops eF8WhuWOQu0 Giving me vibes of Dua Lipa in that green skirt tbh
February 24, 20205 yr I'm pleasantly surprised that Work has managed this high up the results! It was my favourite Chasing Lights album track prior to it being a single. I'll always find it strange that they performed it on Saturday Night Takeaway in March, over 3 months in advance of its release... but at least it gave us the above iconic ad-lib *____* It's a pity that it missed the Top 20 in the singles chart. Under normal circumstances it would have made it to #17 (five Michael Jackson songs ended up charting ahead of them). It had quite nice longevity for its peak, 7 weeks Top 40!
February 24, 20205 yr Just re-listening to Notorious now... it really is bad isn't it! no hook whatsoever and quite boring. The Show >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Notorious I find this a surprising criticism - it has plenty of hooks imo! "I've been a bad girl, I'm a bad girl, I'm notorious" and "I'm an outlaw, I'm the big boss" etc are both very catchy, and it's the complete opposite end of the spectrum from boring for me. Amazed anyone could consider it so when it's such a unique track. I'm pleased Notorious made the top 10 after some really harsh scores, deserved a lot better though, my personal favourite  Work is brilliant too, and I really enjoy Issues
February 24, 20205 yr Work could’ve performed better had they released that instead of JCGE and of course the passing of MJ affected sales The Cahill remix though Edited February 24, 20205 yr by Prettylittlebry
February 24, 20205 yr Work could’ve performed better had they released that instead of JCGE and of course the passing of MJ affected sales The Cahill remix though I gave it 10 solely for the Cahill remix - brilliant!
February 24, 20205 yr _B13leP2tFE hWOoaHohHooo *.* SO beyond stupid how the audience keeps clapping throughout the entire song. Like you can barely hear anything over all that unnecessary extra noise and the audience's fabricated enthusiasm.
February 24, 20205 yr Notorious is one of those songs for me where the chorus is the weakest part of the song but I really enjoy the verses. It’s not one of their worst. It’s kinda oddly structured too in a good way structure wise it reminds me of Girls Alouds Biology. It’s the one song of theirs I could see GA doing actually.
February 25, 20205 yr Author Sorry. Results will be resuming tonight. Wasn't feeling in the right mood to do any yesterday.
February 25, 20205 yr More often than not, -1 seems to be used as a method of sabotage rather than as an indication that somebody genuinely loathes the song to that extent... and I’ve never been keen on that usage. If a song is good, shouldn’t that be a 6 at worst (maybe 5.5 if you’re feeling less generous, although maybe that’s more “ok” territory than “good”)? When I rate, I’d give 5 to a song I consider to be average (in relation to the songs included in the rate).
