I kind of missed this, why is Boris Johnson writing a letter?

I think he wants to tell everyone what they should and shouldn’t be doing during lockdown. But I already know so I’m not going to read it.

That seems both oddly retro & redundant

My dad thinks it’s probably intended for older people who aren’t online. But still it’s a ridiculous expense given it’s all over the news, in the papers, etc. And it’s common sense.

The other day Medvedev (who was sacked from the Government here in January (just some circus power move that didn't actually mean anything)) made a video statement and people were like "who is she". Also incredibly redundant & retro. Our governments have so much in common these days - no one is doing anything with the country going backwards at the speed of light <3 Putin appears in public once every month to have an unnecessary press conference and goes back to ""WFH"".

don't say the name three times or it will appear

Mind you, Germany's lowering the official death figure from this virus by apparently putting the underlying causes on some death certificates and not even mentioning Covid 19. Read that on a newspaper site yesterday.

People keep making this claim on twitter and comment sections without providing a single shred of evidence.

Germany is testing more people and as a result has a SIGNIFICANTLY lower average age of infection that most countries as were testing more mild cases that other countries are ignoring. We have an extremely well funded healthcare system with triple the amount of ICU spaces than Italy or the UK. We are better prepared and testing more widely. This is why our death rate is lower. We’re also tracking behind a little bit as our early cases were pretty much just made up of young folks coming back from ski trips.

Just because we’re in a global pandemic doesn’t mean people can take leave of their senses (where they had any in the first place tbh) and take shit at face value.

Thought him and Menvedev were partners in crime?

Only hope is that Putin is getting old and will pass it on soon!

He's basically just a dictator like the old soviet empire only without the shrewd of communism for the masses.

On that note, seriously disappointed in how the media is reporting all kinds of things during this crisis. Saw today that multiple of the reports of how things COULD be and how such evidence MIGHT show certain conclusions are being reported as factual statements across the board by all from the Mail to the Guaradian.

Resulting in continual u-turns day after day in the papers. "Coronavirus not that serious." "aCTUALLy no, it's twice as serious as we thought!" etc. etc.

Just pick a damn line and stick to it, or report making clear that your articles are speculation subject to verification.

Really seems like any kind of standards of accuracy have gone completely out the window, at a time when arguably we need them more than usual so people don't do anything stupid & endanger themselves and others needlessly.

The deaths are going to continue to be in triple figures for a few weeks now because the impact of lockdown won't have been felt.

News of the antibody being developed is positive and also apparently numbers being admitted to hospital is steady for now so if this continues and people continue to stay at home we can start to see the turn around in a few weeks.

Let's remain positive ~

Have you seen where the tubes and tube stations in London are all packed at peak times? Not too bad in off-peak times. No sign of social distancing on them at peak times though but you can't really do it there. The Mayor reduced the number of trains running and 30% of drivers/ other staff are off either sick or self-isolating. The only way to stop that is to say no work unless it's essential or you're going alone in a private vehicle. Glad wife drives to work. If she'd to go by tube they wouldn't have let her go they say.

Buses around us seem to still be running as they always do but nearly empty. You'd think they'd knock some off to save diesel wouldn't you.

Some of the headlines on the effectiveness of the government's measures were particularly poor and misleading. The i's headline this morning was "Lockdown helping UK to beat virus". When I saw a similar headline yesterday, my first thought was that we wouldn't expect to see any effect on the figures until the end of this week at the very earliest and probably not until next week. Sure enough, the story wasn't about that at all. It was simply reporting that most people's habits had changed as a result of the restrictions. Obviously we hope (and expect) that to lead to a slowdown in the spread but the headline suggested it was happening already.

With the known facts changing so fast, it is inevitable that some stories - and government announcements - will, with hindsight, be shown to have been inaccurate. It would help if the relevant people admitted this, explained why the previous announcement is now known to be wrong and treated us like adults.

Mice and rats thank the stock-pilers!!

From The Sun:

THINK you're alone in lockdown? Greedy stockpilers may be unwittingly welcoming a grisly cast of creepy critters into their homes that are hungry and riddled with disease.

Over just three weeks, panic-buying Brits hoarded an eye-watering billion pounds' worth of extra food over coronavirus fears, but now they are serving up an unprecedented banquet for rats, mice and ants.

People have got lots of biscuits, bread, cereals, rice and pasta and they’re putting it in places where they wouldn’t have stored food before — the under stairs cupboards, loft spaces, places like that," says Peter Higgs, who runs PGH Pest Control.

"Because they’ve got so much of it, vermin are going to get in - and a lot of the time people won’t notice.

“We often find that they get into cereal and rice packets and people don’t even know.

"As they run over it and poop in it, it sinks to the bottom, so you don’t always know you’ve got a rat problem or a mouse problem until it’s too late.”

suddenly reassured all my food lives in the high cabinets or on the counter.

not sure we've ever kept food in low cupboards - thats where pots and pans etc live

Before cooking always check your pots, pans and food dishes for little black pellets. No they're not raisins! :o

Just checked my dog food bags in the spare bedroom that was my daughter's. They seem intact but better get it in a big tub. They bite in at the bottom corners so people may not always realise.

You could always nobble them on the head Chris!

Not as easy as it sounds Jack. They're so fast! Wife had one cornered in the bathroom once and she was determined to kill it. She speared it with a meat fork. :o
