I don’t remember a rule about breaking the lockdown being ok if you need childcare. In fact, that was a reason why Cummings and co didn’t want schools closed because it would kill loads of grandparents. It’s really interesting to see how the ‘will someone please think of the children!!!’ line comes out when the government want/need something like to reopen schools or cover Cummings’ arse.

Well this is exactly the point isn't it? Now that the public have been told that the rules are only for guidance and we can effectively use our 'common sense' when applying them, who is to say that anyone fined so far by the police should have to pay when they were applying the rules as they saw fit? It makes a complete mockery of the legislation and absolutely impossible for the police to enforce. Furthermore, as you say, if and when schools reopen parents should be able to 'exercise their own common sense' deciding on whether they feel it is safe or not for their children to return.

Utter shambles.

Except in unforeseen circumstances such as having no-one to look after your child.

I wonder, do you have any children? Because if you did you would understand why Dom never took his child to social services instead.

there's various options before taking them to cocial services lmao. I may not have any kids but I sure as hell won't bribg my kids to them while I myself and my spouse are confirmed sick. Hell I even didn't visit my grandparents when I was RECOVERED.

If he was able to drive this far, he was able to take care of his kids

I mean the Government website even has a small advice section specifically aimed at children who are in a household with someone with symptoms (as if a child would be reading the government website in the first place but that is for another day)...

“Advice for the children in the household

This guidance applies to children of all ages.

Keep following the Stay at home guidance for households with possible coronavirus to the best of your ability, however, we are aware that not all these measures will be possible.

What we have seen so far is that children with coronavirus appear to be less severely affected. It is nevertheless important to do your best to follow this guidance.

Children who are part of a household that is following guidance on staying at home due to possible coronavirus should take exercise within their home. Children who are part of a household that is following guidance on staying at home due to possible coronavirus should not be attending school or any childcare settings even if they are children of key workers.

Children should also be encouraged to follow good hygiene – frequent handwashing with soap and water and avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.”

I’ve also read the “Stay at home guidance for households with possible coronavirus” and can’t see anything regarding taking your child to another household when your current household has symptoms of coronavirus, so if Peacemob would kindly link us to where he saw that it would be really handy. ^_^

Are you for real?

Try thinking for yourself rather than let someone else do it for you.

I can think for myself thankyou. Can you point to me where the media are lying on this?

No, it is you that is the fool

People today are breaking the lockdown rules more and more. Dom didn't do anything wrong and hasn't broken any rules, if anything he followed the rules more than most British people did.

This is a witch hunt from the British mainstream media, they're not doing their job, instead they play their silly, stupid games. And it is no surprise the contempt for the British mainstream media gets bigger and bigger, why would anyone listen to the British media these days.

I must have missed the day where the whole country made the M1 gridlocked in a valiant effort to meet loved ones. Does anyone else remember that day?

The rules did not state that, it is in extreme circumstances. Parents up and down the country have been in the exact same position. What are you calling them- bad parents?

Come off it, at least with Brexit there is the form for a valid argument, with this it's as black and white as it possibly could be. I bet if this was Corbyn/Starmer, your stance would be completely different, whereas I would assume the rest of us in this thread would also rightfully be calling for their heads.

Desperation oozes from every newspaper and news programme in the UK today, fake stories, half-truths, and false interpretations of the facts.

Pot, meet kettle.

Although I don't disagree with you that the quality of a lot of journalism has gone down the pan. Who would've guessed that if you limit journalists to coming from rich families that you might end up with somewhat biased reporting...

I suppose the fact it was Cummings' mother's birthday is completely coincidental.

Happy birthday mum! Just visiting to drop off the kids after they've been in the car with me and my ill wife for the last 5 hours in an enclosed space full of our breath. Good thing you're not in an at risk category!

Johnson said in March "Children should not be left with older grandparents, or older relatives, who may be vulnerable". I assume that by "older grandparents" he meant people over 70. After all, grandparents do tend to be older than their grandchildren.

When lockdown was imposed, the notes on essential travel stated "Leaving your home - the place you live - to stay in another home is not allowed".

How could that advice be any clearer?

The optics on this don't look especially great do they...

He’s complete toast. He either goes or the Government keep him on and at every available opportunity journalists and the opposition will bring why should the public have to abide by the rules but the Government don’t.

Don’t think there’s any way the Government can bury this as much as they tried to yesterday. There’s an easy way out, but you have to suspect Cummings will try and take down others if he is made to go.

The government are not "arse twitching", they're finding this tedious to have to deal with the desperate media making false allegations and false interpretations of what really happened. Instead the government would rather be getting on with their jobs in trying to make the UK a better country to live in, instead of playing the media's silly games.

Yet, anyone who can see reality, and has an actual memory about what was said a mere 2 or 3 months ago knows that Cummings is an arrogant, lying, self-inflated, lying, spinning, old-people-hating, lying, media-manipulating, hypocritical, lying, hateful, conceited, nasty, lying, ruthless, miserable, humourless, lying shitbag. Especially anyone that knows him well.

That you can't see that speaks volumes about your willingness to self-delusion, fact-avoidance, and infers that you have you have the same basic hatred of the riff-raff and aren't remotely bothered about people dying thanks to appalling examples set by this first-class moron that makes Pierce Morgan seem positively wonderful in comparison.

The sky is blue. Nothing you say about Dominic Cummingsoon having made it pink with purple spots and it's just media lies that insists it's blue when it's really pink with purple spots can change reality. Still, I support your right to go flying the "Sky is pink with purple spots flag" "flat earth" "we live in a virtual computer programme" bullshit whether you actually believe it or not. Personally, I'll stick with reality.

PS trying to make the country a better place by apparently killing off 55,000 so far from been f***ing useless, and plunging the economy into chaos by dealing with it too late. Brilliant strategy I must say, as it means the damage from Brexit will be totally hidden by the enormous damage from Covid-19. Look forward to everyone being SO much better off on January 1st 2021, let us know how much better off you are and list how much your life has improved, and we can all compare notes the same day on how we are doing under the fabulous new world order. And then again a year later. And another year later. And so on....

Dom Cummings is the only one coming out of this with dignity and class, the level of harassment from the British media is DISGUSTING. Like I said before, the British mainstream media are burying themselves.

People having to queue outside supermarkets at a distance for so long, and then they see all the journalists and paparazzi crowding around each other like the rules don't apply to them.

The British media need to be told, NO, the country is not governed by you, it's the British people that elect who governs our country, not you hacks.

Oh I think it is cutting through, there are a lot of reports from Tory MPs of angry correspondence to constituency offices. Lockdown has affected us all and this places Dominic Cummings and his family above everyone elses. You are a fool to think otherwise!

I am deeply concerned about how the alt-right and now the government seems to be using tactics out of the fascist playbook. At the risk of invoking Godwin's Law: “One of the greatest advantages of the totalitarian elites of the twenties and thirties was to turn any statement of fact into a question of motive.”

My Brexit supporting Conservative grandfather knows about this — someone who doesn't really pay attention to politics — and is disgusted by it and Cummings. It's definitely managed to cut through in a way I didn't expect.

Disgusted by what?

When are the police going to start speaking to the journalists and the paparazzi baying for blood outside Dom's house about the social distancing.

They talk about one rule for someone and another for everyone else, the British media need to take a look at themselves.

It's funny how disdain for British journalism is shared across the political spectrum — and yet it clearly skews in one direction. How would people handle our mainstream media if it wasn't concentrated in the hands of five billionaires?

The British people are already making their feelings clear about the British media by the falling sales and falling viewership in the mainstream news, this non-story and all out harassment on Dom Cummings will drive the British people away for them even more.

The mainstream media have less and less influence year-on-year, and I can't wait when it eventually becomes zero influence.

It's now harrassment to question someone for blatant lawbreaking is it?

Hope you stay out of the justice system.
