The trust that has been lost will inevitably scupper any test and trace programme that comes into force next month. Understandably scientists are furious!

Anyway, congratulations to the 48 countries around the world that HAVE taken the appropriate action to stop the spread of Covid-19: https://www.endcoronavirus.org/countries

Note that Sweden (highlighted by some as a successful example of the 'herd immunity' / no lockdown approach) remains on the 'needs action' tier along with the UK that actually did have a lockdown...

So the government has warned that any parent refusing to send kids back to school will be prosecuted, in so many words.

Right. So parents at risk or kids at risk of dying have no choice in using parental concern to try and keep themselves alive, but one f***er is permitted to spread it wherever he f***ing well feels like going cos he's a great parent and a great son. let's not forget he definitely had it and wasn't in the risk group. Other people are.

That hole they are digging for themselves keeps getting deeper and deeper. I don't want my brother to die. If schools can't guarantee they are 100% safe by first testing everyone in the school then I will support my brother to break the law if it comes to that. I suspect a lot of folk will feel the same way now and Johnson can go swivel. Public defiance is very hard to enforce when they can use the same argument the rich and entitled use as an excuse to flaunt the very guidance they imposed.

I'd favour a little bit of civil disobedience here - you've just been told that Dominic Cummings was allowed to put his own 'common sense' interpretation of the rules. So if you, as a parent, do not feel safe sending your children back to school next week - DON'T. End of.

There's an article in the Spectator with Cumming's parents where it's pratically implied by them that Cummings was up in Durham to be nearer to his family because his Uncle was dying.

His uncle, Sir John Laws, died of COVID in Chelsea, a stone's throw from Westminster and far from Durham. And this happened in April, so not at all relevant in terms of timescale, and in any case, people have been famously told that they can't attend funerals or grieve together.

If he drove 250 miles to visit his parents with the virus, then there's also the grisly possibility that Cummings popped round to visit his uncle while he had it in March.

I can't resist reposting some more tweeters:

Weaselling their way

Around Cummings questions

Is funny and at the same time

Ugly, demeaning,

Stomach-turningly loathsome

For my confused US friends: the prime minister’s closest adviser, who is known to be the lying, cheating, corrupt puppet-master behind our suicidally isolationist government has been utterly exposed as a lying, cheating, hypocritical exceptionalist shitbag. Again

As one of those involved in SPI-B, the Government advisory group on behavioural science, I can say that in a few short minutes tonight, Boris Johnson has trashed all the advice we have given on how to build trust and secure adherence to the measures necessary to control COVID-19.

It’s that time again. A mumpsimus (16th century) is someone who refuses to budge/insists that they are right, despite clear evidence that they are wrong. Plural: mumpsimuses.

We are now, officially, a post-truth state.

When us plebs are allowed to move freely, let's move to No 10 en masse and let that f***ed haybale know how we feel.

I suppose this is what happens when a bunch of f***ing idiots meet an arrogant f***ing idiot who tells them he’s a genius.

'Honourable' parents, both with Coranavirus, decide they may need someone to look after their child - who in all probability is infected too - so drive six hours to hand the kid/carrier over to aged parents.

"Frankly, Cummings spits in the face of all our efforts, the whole NHS. If he doesn't resign, I will."

Dr Dominic Pimenta, a cardiology registrar, says he will resign by the end of the week if Dominic Cummings has not done so by then.

And where is Boris in all this? Where is he full stop? Have any other leaders in other nations hidden away this much during this crisis?

Yes. Putin has :')

I am surprised they haven’t rolled out ‘the science said it was ok’ as an excuse yet.

This is cutting through on just about every single level. Even notoriously no-politics people are outraged at this. The longer this goes on the more you have to wonder if, even with a 80 seat majority, the government itself could survive this

No thank you, I'm not the kind of person that revels in witch hunts against innocent people such as Dom Cummings.

The media are burying themselves.

'Innocent' ? The police have started an investigation, we'll let them and the courts decide who is innocent yes ?

Any chance of you actually responding to the points made instead of repeating the same rambling drivel?

Just curious, but what class A narcotic are you taking?

That’s the only reasonable and kind thing I can think of to explain these delusions you appear to be having.

He's got nothing to come back with, no actually sensible arguments that is - the alt-right over on Twitter have also been deafeated and have had to made up some total 'bollocks' about autism to garner some kind of empathy but right now, with public opinion clearly turning against him, it just looks incredibly DESPERATE.

Seriously PeaceMob, stop trolling, or just go if you can't please because it is a waste of time regurgitating the same tired and invalid arguments.

I’m sure there are lots of autistic children that have suffered because their parents have followed the rules. Cummings shouldn’t be an exception.

It’s past the point of getting an explanation. We don’t want one. Resigning or being sacked is the only thing that is going to keep the nation happy but the very least we should have gotten is an apology or an admission from the government that it was the wrong thing to do. And they haven’t even given us that.

Also anybody enjoying the delicious irony of Gavin 'leaky Colander' Williamson (sacked for lying in 2019) being sent out to defend the probity of Dominic Cummings?

I saw that too, and a friend of mine works for an autism charity providing support services to those who require some additional assistance and it’s safe to say that the autism community are f***ing enraged by this

At this point it’s got to be a sacking. Any longer and we tick into the stage where the PM has to resign

Everything about this saga has had me tickled with Schadenfreude

It would appear that even after waves of angry constituents emailing in, Tories are still needing a script to show they pretend to care

But if you're a Tory you don't have a heart, and some are (on this evidence) largely missing a brain. But Daddy got them a nice cushy public service job so it's all good yah.

Give them a break man.
