While a weak album, it would be great if the girls sang more tracks from it on their next tour.

Forever was the only Spice Girls album I bought, whereas for most it was the only Spice Girls album they didn't buy!!

  • I find that Let Love Lead The Way could have been up there with 2 Become 1 and Goodbye if the lyrics weren't so sacarine... The melodies and production are stunning, but the lyrics could have been tak

^ Right Back at Ya would be a fantastic opener and a good way to fill up the setlist.

It was interesting that the Viva Forever musical used more Forever album tracks (Right Back at Ya, Tell Me Why, Time Goes By) than Spice album tracks (only Something Kinda Funny!). Yet the girls have seemingly never felt like performing Forever album tracks (other than the 1999 Christmas tour).

I'm not yearning for a performance of Time Goes By lol and Tell Me Why would be awkward with Geri... but Right Back at Ya would be a great choice for live performance and I can imagine it going down well with audiences, even if a lot of them didn't know, I'm sure they'd bop anyway?

P.S. Get Down with Me "vile"? How extreme! I'll never understand the extreme distaste many fans have for this song. It's one of the "spiciest" songs on the album. It's funky and breezy. Love that Mel B and Victoria shine on Verse 1 and 2.

I'm not sure performing full album tracks from Forever would go down well, but a medley could be nice and appease the appetite of the fans.

‘Next tour’…. I feel this is a long way off from happening if ever :(

Based on the 1999 recordings, I feel the original plan for Forever would have given us an album similar to Britney Spears' 2001 Britney album. There's a mix of edgier material (Slave 4 U, Boys) and the pop she was more identified with (Anticipating). I think Britney shares something with Madonna and Janet Jackson...in that each of them handled the four albums after their breakthroughs extremely well. They all had a sort of gradual musical evolution. They got edgier over time, but it always felt natural. I think that careful evolution plays a big role in why the three of them outlasted a lot of their contemporaries who were just as talented. My guess is the Spices were faced with something of a conundrum. Based on what we've heard from leaks so far, Holler was the single strongest track they'd recorded for the project...and while all the other 1999 material gelled together well enough, Holler was an outlier. It's the clear choice for an album launcher...but none of the other 1999 material really carries its vibe. Hence...why they felt the need for the 2000 recordings. That's my guess anyway.

The 2000 material is a mixed bag for me. I flat out don't like Time Goes By. The new Right Back At Ya is "fine", but it's clearly not as good as the pop version. I like Get Down With Me and Wasting My Time...but my opinions on them aren't as strong as most of this forum. I'd include them on the album but not release them as singles. Tell Me Why is the one I'm most conflicted about. I do think it's a good song...deserving of a single even. But. I don't know. Geri'd up and left them in the middle of a tour and caused them legal troubles. The rest of the girls had every right to feel salty about it. Buuut...if Goodbye is the group taking the high road, then Tell Me Why is the equivalent of the girls having a few too many drinks and saying "...but this is how we really feel." I don't love them singing about another woman's hopes and dreams not reaching their potential or whatever. I guess I just feel...it's a good song...but it's off brand for the Spice Girls.

YES!!!!!! A Forever medley would be lovely. Scrap the awful We Are Family song crap and do FOREVER!

Yeah I agree with the first part, and ultimately they missed the boat of a gradual development. In many ways, Spiceworld was a development of Spice, into more of a pop-focus but there were still some r'n'b tracks in there. Holler was an outlier but if it was released as a second or third single, it wouldn't be so 'obvious' a shift in their sound, I think, and would show more of a progression than a full album of r-n-b heavy tracks with Holler as the lead single.

But I am not sure that it was Holler that was the total outlier' as they did do some of the r-n-b tracks around the same time. It is also funny cos Mel B and Emma did say (in the Forever interviews they did together) that at one point they were thinking of going with other tracks as the lead single but eventually landed on Holler.

I think they thought that delaying the album even further demanded a much stronger change in sound. I can see that reasoning as the straight-up pop they were known for was on its way out by early 2000. But they still should have done some more pop-singles in 1999-2000 leading up to the album imo...

Put on Forever as I was cleaning the house today and DAMN the seg between Get Down With Me - Wasting My Time - Weekend Love just got me dancing around the place :cheer: :music:

I know it is definitely the most maligned segment of the album, but it just hit me that all three songs are bops! Weekend Love gets a bad rap but actually it is one of the most radio-friendly songs on the album. It would have been a fab single!

GET WITH IT GIRLIES :yahoo:

Even on Popjustice this week there was another Forever discussion which led to Get Down with Me and Wasting My Time getting negative comments and I just don’t get it!

Same. I think fan's own trauma from the era (justified!!) clouds their judgement. Another mistake is to compare Forever with Spice and Spiceworld. They are very different and shouldt be compared other than to talk about progression and quality, not as 'it isnt the same' which most criticisms from fans fall into.

Of course, some people might just not like the album or some of the songs at least, that's fair.

But had it been given a proper chance - by everyone including the girls - the album has some really great music in it.

I also took some time to re-order my Forever (Alternate version) playlist and it flows really well like this:

1. Holler

2. Tell Me Why

3. Let Love Lead The Way

4. Right Back At Ya (Pop)

5. Get Down With Me

6. Weekend Love

7. A Day In Your Life

8. Wasting My Time

9. If You Wanna Have Some Fun

10. Oxygen

11. Pain Proof

12. Goodbye

and it works really well :cheer:

Forever gets a hard time because it wasn't the success the first two were. Also the departure of the sound did not help. It's a strong album, just not as strong as the first two.

It's not strong. It is almost as bad as LM5!! One of the worst albums in history.

No.

We Are Family is better than anythin on Forever bar the singles. In fact, it shoulda been their last ever single! Forever should neeever have been releaaed as was. Very very veeery bad album. Therr is a ballad WITH AN RNB RAP BREAKDOWN IN IT!!! Shockingly bad.

Finnnnnnnnnnnnnne, you twisted my arm: I'll give it another go... :rap:

The only salvageable songs from Forever, beside the singles, are If You Wanna Have Some Fun and at an absolute stretch, Tell Me Why - that remix being my preferred version.
Any guesses as to what Madonna's favourite Forever album track is? ;)
