Completely thinking out loud here. I think the issue is...if we're talking about solo...they released the single best songs off their respective albums. For me, the only times the album's best track didn't get released was Geri with Love Never Loved Me...and Victoria with I Wish. But. I think opinions are too divisive on the two of them to send one of their songs forward.

If I were to pick a solo track, it'd be Mel C's Stupid Game. To me, it screamed to be a single (even moreso than Burn) and is instantly likable on first listen. I also think it leaps out more than Burn.

But. At this stage, I acknowledge it could be risky not to go with the group. With NGUOTGT off the table, the next most obvious single to me would be If You Wanna Have Some Fun. It had hit written all over it. But. Then. The outro is, like, an hour long. And there's also the thought...should we go with a five-piece song? In that sense, after NGUOTGT, I would think Move Over would be the next most recognizable album track. It was on a commercial anyone around in the 90s would have seen...and is also part of their Greatest Hits album. Do we hesitate because it's...y'know...a soft drink jingle?

Anyway. That was a long way of saying, I don't know. But I'll still suggest:

Stupid Game

If You Wanna Have Some Fun

Move Over

Why are you all so obsessed with mel C when Emma's Breathing, No Sign of Life, Tomorrow, Undressing You, Take Me To Another Town and All That You'll Be are RIGHT THERE?!!!

Other than Bunton, here are my choices:

Love Thing

Denying

Wasting My Time

I think you'll find I suggested Breathing! :P Also suggested I wish I could have loved you more over bloody Don't call me baby

So I'm ruling out If you wanna have some fun that ending is just way too long and it puts me off even as a die hard fan, I always end up skipping it once it gets to that point.

I'm up for Stupid Game but I think Burn is actually more instant personally. I also think Breathing by Emma Bunton is just as instant as Burn. Then Love never loved me is a brilliant call, however as you said Geri is quite divisive on this forum.

That leads me to the 5 piece one. Move over was one I suggested and the Pepsi jingle isn't an issue for me. Step to me I think it a bit stronger than Move over so why not that one and we will ask the moderators to ensure three Youtube videos are put in the thread this time rather than the spotify playlist? I was actually listening to Love thing earlier and its a BOP so that could be a good choice too. Do it also screams Spice Girls single. God I'm not helping am I?

NGL at the semi final stage of the contest I think a group album track is by far your best shot of progressing! 'Spice' and 'Spiceworld' are classics.

So many choices & I don’t know which we should go for 😱

Yeah. I was only thinking Move Over for the familiarity factor. Honestly, there are songs on Spice and Spiceworld that I personally like better. And that includes Love Thing. And we all know that song was considered for a single...and there were people in the girls' camp who even wanted to launch them on that song. So. I don't know. Maybe we ought to do Love Thing...?

It's for sure going to be tough. I don't know Rihanna's album tracks especially well...but I do know Gaga's. And Gaga definitely didn't release some of her strongest material as singles.

So. I don't know know.

Maybe we just get someone in here to make a megamix of Spice Invaders, Victoria's It's That Simple, Mel B's Perdido, Mel C's Cosmic Shower, and Geri's Heaven and Hell (Being Geri Halliwell). And by megamix, I mean...all five just playing on top of each other at the same time. "Yes, this. This is what we collectively think should have been released as a single." They will say we went down in a blaze of glory...

 That would be the most demonic sound ever created, I'm almost curious to hear how it would sound

We have decided.

You guys can send a flop Australian single if you want to. :melaniec:

So, shall I just confirm 'Half Of Me' by Geri now orrrr?

By the way, a couple of days ago when I thought "Hang on a minute, maybe Spice Girls could actually make it to Round 15 :o ", I have to admit that the first solo song that crossed my mind to fit the theme is Geri's - Love Never Loved Me!

I'm not sure if I'm convinced that any solo song over a group one is too wise at this stage, but that's probably my front runner out of the solo suggestions. A career highlight that is better than a handful of her singles *.*

I keep seeing this... but why not? It's a song contest? It's not about the legacy of any acts. Just send the song you're most comfortable with sending that has potential to beat out Gaga or Rihanna. Regardless of whether it's a Spice track or a solo track.

As for the last part of the comment...

is that really a hard task? :kink:

Oh, I know. I love this song. In fact, I'd take it a step further than saying it's better than a handful of her singles. For me, this is the best song she ever released solo. And I don't mean that as disrespect to anything else she did. I like quite a lot of her solo material, really. But this one's just Geri at the peak of her abilities. The song manages to be quite beautiful...and has an honest fragility to the lyrics and vocals...while also being a potential club bop. It's a feat. Madonna managed a #1 with the somewhat similar Sorry the next year.

It's interesting to think back. It was the fans who voted for Desire to be released over Love Never Loved Me. I've always kinda wondered...if LNLM was the one chosen and it stalled on the charts, would we all be looking at Desire as this great missed opportunity today? I'm not sure I would. Desire is fine...but LNLM is miles better.

I think it's an excellent song that's always deserved better than it got. But. From a strategic standpoint, I can't forget about the general public's perception of Geri's solo career...

I just find it hard to imagine that a solo song would do the business over something from Spice or Spiceworld, but of course I could be very wrong! Gaga and Rihanna are both icons, and so are the Spice Girls... but solo Spices are definite underdogs. Indeed Melanie C just did better than Madonna, but I think that was a case of the theme being ill suited to Madonna's strengths. For this round... Gaga and Rihanna are able to go big. I'm not sure if a solo song can compete, but a group song might.

:geri: Poor Geri  (Out of interest, have you heard Love Never Loved Me? Prepare yourself for a bop tinged with melancholy *_* )

An interesting question! I do wonder if in 2005, Geri was destined to fail regardless of the quality of what she released. Her documentary seemed pretty damaging to the public's perception of her (which was probably already on shaky ground). It would have hurt a bit if Love Never Loved Me had bombed - perhaps it was for the best for fans that it was left as the what if? moment in her career, rather than potentially being tainted.

Desire definitely seems tainted to me. I think it's a perfectly fine song, in fact I really like it, but ever since 2005 a lot of fans maintain it's one of her worst songs. Hmm.

Thanks for all the replies & votes! We’ve confirmed
Great choice guys :cheer: I think Gaga will breeze through but the other spot seems unpredictable - I really don't think the girls are dead certain to go out at all with 'Love Thing' as their choice, definitely a sensible move ~

Fingers crossed Jade.

Top three is amazing tbh. And all this push and shoving has certainly brought 'Love Thing' into my Saturday in a major way. So whatever happens now, it's all good. Well done Jay and Spiceboy.
