The End-of-Year Number 17 Survivor Result

And the winner is...

Lady Gaga! Was it really going to be anyone else? :kink: 'Bad Romance' will join the other winners in the second Ultimate Survivor once the top 20 has been completed. The song was released in October 2009 and served as the first single from Gaga's The Fame Monster. It gave Gaga her third UK #1 of 2009 and earned her a #2 hit in the US. Needless to say, it is a modern classic and perhaps Gaga's signature song. What a time to be a Gaga fan!

In second place is the single that kicked off Girls Aloud's music career. 'Sound Of The Underground' was an exciting and fresh sound for talent show winners in an age before the likes of 'Bleeding Love' and 'What Makes You Beautiful'. The song is also the first of a career-long partnership between the girls and music production company Xenomania. After GA were formed, they went head-to-head with rival boyband One True Voice for the prestigious Christmas Number One of 2002. With the marketing line "Buy Girls, Bye Boys" and undoubtedly the best song of the two, GA stormed the Christmas week chart and earned their first (of 4) number one single. The sales weren't even close between the two groups (GA - 213,000 / OTV - 147,000).

The End-of-Year Number 18 Survivor Result

And the winner is...

Britney bitch! The pop princess scores her second victory in these survivors after 'Oops...' won the #15 edition. The song was released as the third single to Britney's fourth album In The Zone and went on to give Brit her fifth UK number one hit. The video was very controversial at the time as it depicted her chaotic relationship with the media and even showed her dying in a bathtub. The song is minimalist pop perfection and is without a doubt my favourite Britney ballad. The song's piano backing combined with Britney's vocals creates a haunting feel to it. Definitely a worthy winner.

In second place is Melanie C and Left-Eye with their collaboration from 2000. It became Melanie's first UK #1 away from the Spice Girls - selling over 144,000 copies in its first week - and reached the top 10 all across Europe. I'm not really a big fan of the song. It's not bad by any means but I don't get the love for it on here.

WINNER: Britney Spears - Everytime [61.54%] 24 out of 39 votes

Runner-up: Melanie C feat. Left Eye - Never Be The Same Again [38.46%] 15 out of 39 votes

03. Rihanna - Disturbia [50.00%] 21 out of 42 votes

04. Take That - Shine [48.65%] 18 out of 37 votes

05. Darius - Colourblind [41.18%] 14 out of 34 votes

06. Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire [39.47%] 15 out of 38 votes

07. City High - What Would You Do? [36.84%] 14 out of 38 votes

08. Shayne Ward - That's My Goal [31.71%] 13 out of 41 votes

09. Mario - Let Me Love You [29.79%] 14 out of 47 votes

10. David Sneddon - Stop Living The Lie [39.58%] 19 out of 48 votes

Not my preferred winner from that survivor but Everytime is a very strong song so no huge complaints.

The Kooks! Who would've thought? :o 'Naïve' was released as the fourth single from The Kook's debut album Inside In/Inside Out and gave them their highest-charting single at that point, peaking at #5. For years I didn't match the song to its title so only through this I discovered 'Naïve' was one of those indie songs that was played an awful lot back in '06. Not my preferred winner but I appreciate it is one of the less predictable champions!

In second place is DJ Sammy with his eurodance version of the 1985 Bryan Adams hit (well, a #1 hit in the US but only a #38 "hit" in the UK...). 'Heaven' was released in November 2002 in the UK but notably began charting for 6 weeks in the bottom quarter of the top 100 prior to its release date. I'm assuming this was due to imports bought by people desperately seeking the single. DJ Sammy went on to gain three more UK top 10 hits - the other well-known one being the #2 'The Boys of Summer'. It's a shame DJ Sammy didn't quite catch The Kooks but what a close final!

WINNER: The Kooks - Naïve [52.38%] 22 out of 42 votes

Runner-up: DJ Sammy - Heaven [47.62%] 20 out of 42 votes

03. James Morrison feat. Nelly Furtado - Broken Strings [50.00%] 19 out of 38 votes

04. Robbie Williams - Tripping [41.46%] 17 out of 41 votes

05. Kanye West - Stronger [53.85%] 21 out of 39 votes

06. Madonna - American Pie [44.74%] 17 out of 38 votes

07. Busted - Thunderbirds [41.46%] 17 out of 41 votes

08. So Solid Crew - 21 Seconds [34.15%] 14 out of 41 votes

09. Kid Rock - All Summer Long [28.57%] 12 out of 42 votes

10. Fatman Scoop - Be Faithful [27.78%] 10 out of 36 votes

:cheer: we love to see it (surprising though after they looked like they were going to be eliminated a couple of rounds back)

Oh wow :cheeseblock: shocked but very pleased *.*

('Heaven' is slightly tainted for me as it brings back sad memories but that aside a good runner up)

Do love a surprise result especially when it's a very good song on the better end!

Heaven would have been an even better winner but Naïve is still better than most of the ones so far.

Although I didn't really care for nearly all of the songs it's nice that there wasn't an obvious frontrunner/favourite and instead we are treated to a shock winner. :P

The End-of-Year Number 20 Survivor Result

And the winner is...

Bloodhound Gang with their iconic 'The Bad Touch'. The song was actually first released in the previous decade - in September 1999 in fact - but first charted in the UK in April 2000. Upon release, the song entered the chart at #5 where it stayed for a fortnight and ended up peaking at #4 in its fourth week on the chart. It is the band's only top 10 hit in the UK. The music video caused controversy by depicting the band members assaulting two effeminate gay guys with baguettes - the fact the scene ever got made is certainly a sign of those times... Anyway, hurrah for a great champion!

In second place is Avril Lavigne with presumably her biggest hit ever - the Mickey-inspired 'Girlfriend'. The song was released in March 2007 and entered the UK chart at #3 a week or two before its CD release (an impressive achievement at the time) which would surely give it a big chance of reaching number one, right? Sadly not. Avril was unlucky coinciding with the 2007 Comic Relief single from The Proclaimers and had to settle for #2 - which still gave Avril her highest-charting hit in the UK! In the US, 'Girlfriend' became Avril's first - and to date only - #1 on the Hot 100.

WINNER: Bloodhound Gang - The Bad Touch [65.00%] 26 out of 40 votes

Runner-up: Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend [35.00%] 14 out of 40 votes

03. David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over [44.12%] 15 out of 34 votes

04. Black Eyed Peas - Shut Up [30.95%] 13 out of 42 votes

05. Fedde le Grand - Put Your Hands Up For Detriot [38.64%] 17 out of 44 votes

06. Mariah Carey - We Belong Together [39.47%] 15 out of 38 votes

07. Robbie Williams - Eternity [32.50%] 13 out of 40 votes

08. The Streets - Dry Your Eyes [30.77%] 12 out of 39 votes

End Of Year Number 21 Winner!

1st place Lady Gaga-Paparazzi [59.38%] (19 votes out of 32)

B8-EDE4-DB-0745-4198-9-C46-9-AC4-C9-E58693.gif

Gaga has done it again! The third time she has won one of these polls, Paparazzi was a no.4 hit in the UK in Summer 2009 highlighting the unhealthy paparazzi culture in the world we live in. Her first track not to hit no.1, it was still a monster seller and she was extremely close to having 4 tracks in the top 20 best sellers for 2009. Congrats Gaga!

2nd place Shapeshifters-Lola’s Theme [40.62%] (13 votes out of 32

Finishing second place is the huge Summer 2004 no.1 from Shapeshifters, Lola’s Theme. Pipping Buzzjack fave Rachel Stevens to the top spot, I think the recent 2004 no.1s rate proves it was one of the few very good no.1s of 2004.

3rd place Girls Aloud-Sound Of The Underground [40.54%] (15 out of 37 votes)
4th place P!nk-Get The Party Started [34.29%] (12 out of 35 votes)
5th place The Automatic-Monster [42.11%] (16 votes out of 38)
6th place Truesteppers & Dane Bowers Feat Victoria Beckham-Out Of Your Mind [47.22%] (17 votes out of 36)
7th place Snoop Dogg Feat Justin Timberlake-Signs [35.90%] ( 14 votes out of 39)
8th place S Club 7-Have You Ever [36.59%] (15 votes out of 41)
9th place Fergie-Big Girls Don’t Cry (Personal) [30.56%] (11 votes out of 36)
10th place Jordin Sparks With Chris Brown-No Air [23.08%] (9 votes out of 40)

1st place Ian Van Dahl-Castles In The Sky [54.55%] (18 out of 33 votes)

So Ian Van Dahl, who was either a man, woman or group back in the day depending on who you spoke to, tops the poll with Castles In The Sky. Entering at 5 but peaking at 3 in a Summer 2001, the track has been described as lazy, generic and dated during this poll but I love it because it just takes me back to a Summer of being 12 and quite frankly, I’d do anything to go back.

2nd place The Rasmus-In The Shadows [45.45%](15 out of 33 votes

And the Rasmus are a close second. The Finnish rockers took In The Shadows to no.3 back in Spring 2004. Despite this success, it was never really replicated but we apparently had a forum for them here on Buzzjack? I can’t remember.

3rd place Audio Bullys Feat Nancy Sinatra-Shot You Down [58.33%] (21 out 36 votes)

4th place Rachel Stevens-Sweet Dreams My LA Ex [37.93%] (11 out of 30 votes)

5th place Ting Tings-That’s Not My Name [27.27%] (9 out of 33 votes)

6th place Meck Feat Leo Sayer-Thunder In My Heart Again [37.50%] (12 out of 32 votes)

7th place Ronan Keating-Life Is A Rollercoaster [40.00%] (12 out of 30 votes)

8th place Timbaland Feat Justin Timberlake & Nelly Furtado-Give It To Me [31.43%] (11 out of 35 votes)

9th place Flo Rida Feat Kesha-Right Round [24.39%] (10 votes out of 41)

10th place Will Young & Gareth Gates-The Long & Winding Road [64.86%] (24 out of 37 votes)
