Posted May 21, 20205 yr If u know, u know and I do with this TUNE. Okay, Nicki’s part isn’t wholly needed. But the production makes it so infectious and hard to ignore. It’s one of her best for me. I feel like I’m the only one so back me up on this x I think what makes it extra special for me is the different way it approaches the difficulties she went through, the coldness of the song (in contrast to songs like No Tears, Breathin’ and Get Well Soon on the album) kinda gives it a realism that we HOPE the light is coming to bring back what the darkness stole but in the current climate we’re not sure if it really is. I hope I’m making sense here  I was horrified when I heard the song and even when I became besotted with Sweetener as an album it still made me feel meh, along with ‘Better Off’. Now they’re two of my favourite of her album tracks. First impressions don’t always matter x What do y’all think about this? X
May 21, 20205 yr I feel like the random "you wouldn't let anybody speak but instead" in the background is the main factor this song is disliked. It's very jarring and annoyingly out of time which is sooo distracting. I imagine there would still be people who wouldn't like it but there would be more that found it a bop (me included). I'm sure someone on the internet has been able to remove the background voice.
May 21, 20205 yr Yesss it is underrated! It feels fairly disliked on the forum, infamously causing Ariana to exit AF Idol quite early on last year. Most criticisms seem to stem from what Liam pointed out. A lot of people can't get past the repetitive male sample in the background. Which I totally understand! But personally it doesn't bother me and I really enjoy the song too - possibly my favourite Ariana and Nicki collaboration? It POPPED OFF on tour last year too, especially thanks to the accompanying light up rings *.*
May 21, 20205 yr I've always been a fan even if it's nowhere near being a top favourite. I was surprised by just how well it gone off during tour. The whole crowd seemed to be really into it and it was one of the songs she performed best tbh.

May 21, 20205 yr I wouldn't say it was "SLEPT ON" but I wouldn't put it in my favourites, if it comes on I'll have a good jig along, but I don't run back to it. Like Liam said, it's the sample that ruins it for me.
May 21, 20205 yr Yes, kind of. It's a good song but not a classic by any means Looking through my last.fm stats, I've played this 34 times in total, 27 of which were in the first week of it's release then 6 more when the album was out. And then not at all in 2019 or 2020 until now  It was definitely a front loaded song for me I played it to death quite literally and never looked back. I can see it being a great song performed live
May 22, 20205 yr It's one of the standout tracks on 'sweetener' for me - I can see why the vocal sample might be annoying for some people but I actually really like it and the song as a whole is a banger. Pretty similar to 'Lemon' by N.E.R.D & Rihanna which was one of my favourite songs of its year ('the light is coming' isn't near as good as that but it's still a tune).
May 24, 20205 yr XP3FSEnRTNs "Without yelling man" Can't believe I'm saying this but I actually think the song misses him! I don't think the sample should run through the entire song but it would work just in the chorus. Maybe I'm just so used to it at this point but I can see where the comments of the song feeling 'empty' are coming from.
May 24, 20205 yr I think I prefer yelling man (!) due to familiarity as well, that version feels a bit naked
May 24, 20205 yr The yelling man ruins it for sure. But even without him on it, I think it’s easily the worst full length track on sweetener and her worst Nicki collab too. I’m so glad it never got a full single push!
June 20, 20205 yr View this post on Instagram two years 🖤 love u 💡 2 years since this was released! I guess Ariana would be team 'yes' in this poll :kink:
