Yes they think it’s in the community as they can’t link the cases back to anywhere e.g. international travel, the workplace. So they must have got infected somewhere else which means they’re certain it must be in the community from an original different source who is an asymptomatic carrier.

It remains the case that the best measure is the number of deaths over and above the five-year average. No amount of fiddling the figures will alter the fact that England is the worst country in Europe by that measure.

14 more cases confirmed and they believe it might also be in Rotorua. The most logical explanation for the virus at the moment is that it is was in a shipping container. Absolutely brutal if that's the case.

It's not really fiddling though, the old reporting mechanism was stupid, especially if you're the only country in the world reporting deaths in that way. Now you could argue that our "official" Covid-19 death toll isn't accurate in itself so the other figures added up to that. But pretty much every other country in Europe is in a similar position.

Plenty of other countries are retesting so they known when people have recovered. The UK abandoned that months ago. Yes, the policy of counting all deaths of people who had tested positive, however long ago, is daft. However, having a cut-off of 28 days (despite many people continuing to be ill for significantly more than 28 days) is no better.

I certainly don't disagree with the latter, but it seems that most other countries around the world are reporting similarly to this. But I also don't know what the answer is to having a reporting system that is accurate as possible.

The excess deaths figure is about as accurate as it gets, particularly as comparable figures should be available from all similar countries.

Think we already are on a few? Sure I read France did it almost as a retribution move.

 

It's a shame though, can't see anything changing (other than MORE countries being added) until well past Winter & Spring beyond...

What is the positive percentage of the tests? A lot of people around here were thinking the same but the percentage rose fast in some places. So there is definately an increase. However the spread is not at the level of March and April due to more testing now, but I feel like people will use this as an excuse until 20k new daily cases are reported or something

If the speed of testing back in March was at the same speed as it is now and masks were mandatory back then, the spread would’ve been slow and also, asymptomatic cases have done more damage than symptomatic cases

The Guardian mentioned one woman who knew there was a good chance of this happening, whose employer had said that anyone in quarantine would have to take unpaid leave but who still went ahead and travelled to France. She still seemed to be expecting sympathy but she won't be getting it from me.

I know it's so selfish with all that going on, can't you just give it a miss for ONE year like.

It's ridiculous. I have some sympathy for people who booked their holidays pre-Corona and are using the holiday still. But everyone moaning otherwise gets little sympathy "we should have had 72 hours notice". Yeah cos I am sure Coronavirus stops still for a little bit.. absolute idiots. Really don't know why they don't advise against foreign travel full stop and use government money to prop up the airline/travel system until the end of 2020.
