I wondered if you might have been thinking about winding up this thread. I'll be sorry to see it go, but understand - thanks for all the work you've put into it for so long! Hope it gets to 225k views by year end :D

Will you continue with the YTD estimates in 2023? The first week of the year is an unusual one for this thread with all the songs which don't get reset, but it should be the same as the YTD chart for that one week. After that, I think the monthly YTD updates would continue to go down well if you're planning to carry those on.

Back to this week, I see Kelly's and Bobby's Christmas songs have cracked this top 10 for the first time - I reckon only one of them will do that officially in the coming weeks.

Thanks! :) I do wonder if a portion of those views were bots though - there was a period when it was going up by several thousand each week. :D

Planning to continue with the YTDs as it stands.

Sorry yes I meant to mention about Kelly and Bobby getting Top 10 for the first time - first time Top 20 for Dean Martin too!

I presume we’ve had an all Xmas SCR top ten before?

Pretty sure we had a full Christmas top 10 on the actual chart last year with all but Ed/Elton being on ACR!

I presume we’ve had an all Xmas SCR top ten before?

In the post Christmas week last year I placed Easy On Me as the highest on Christmas song at #30. Not sure if that will be “beaten” this year as we have a stronger non Christmas seller with Raye.

Pretty sure we had a full Christmas top 10 on the actual chart last year with all but Ed/Elton being on ACR!
and George Ezra. 8 songs on ACR is the most there have been at one time (also the last week of 2018 with all except Sweet But Psycho & thank u next).

As mentioned previously this may be the last time I work this out and post it, although I will do a one off accurate old rules chart next week when I get the YTD list!

New peaks this week for Bobby Helms, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, José Feliciano, Ronettes, Lizzo, Nat “King” Cole, Burl Ives, The Beach Boys and Frank Sinatra. Wow a lot of oldies. Interestingly no peak for Firebabe without the ACR distortion.

Sorry to hear you're thinking of retiring this thread - understandable though as it must be a lot of work to put together! Can personally say I've enjoyed checking this out without fail every week, thanks for all the hard work and apologies for not interacting. More of a lurker on the forum these days!
Awww have always enjoyed this thread - thanks so much for putting this together Julian!

Didn't realise just how long you had been doing these for!

Thanks for all the efforts with this, a bit of a shame if you are retiring it but fair if you think it's just not worth the effort or whatever it is.

I hope you do continue as it is always good to see what the chart really looks like.

As promised providing the fully accurate Old Rules Top 50 for the week ending 12 January. I can only do this because I receive the Year To Date Top 100 from UKChartsPlus each week, and this week the Year Do Date chart and the old rules chart are the same thing. ChartsPlus is well worth a subscription for a couple of pounds per week if you’re a geek like me.

Note that while the resets having blocked Calm Down and Out of Nowhere from Top 5 may be frustrating, it’s also worth being thankful that the rules allow them to be Top 10 at all.

I don’t want to copy the full tracks Top 100 from ChartsPlus but as I have it I’ll post some extra info and commentary.

Note that we already have quite a big distortion in the tracks Top 50 with the official #82, Big City Life, featuring at #48 and the official #28, Until I Found You, being outside the Top 50. The further you go down the more extreme the distortion becomes. The official #40, 50s by Headie One, is only the “true” #79. And Firebabe, the official #45, is not Top 100 :o . So the cut off for the “true” Top 100 must be around 7.5k, just above Firebabe’s 7,389 sales. I suspect if you went further down the distortion would become yet more extreme. I’d love to know where Sweet Lies by Nathan Dawe and Talia Mar would be and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it would be #300 or lower.

The two highest placed songs starred out from this week’s chart are Lavender Haze at old rules #62 and Perfect at old rules #65. The highest placed song to have just missed the official Top 100 is Everybody Wants To Rule The World at old rules #70. The 25 other songs in the old rules but not the official Top 100, in alphabetical order, are:

505

Baby shark

Do I wanna know?

Don’t stop believin’

Don’t stop me now

Dreams

For my hand

Hold me closer

I’m still standing

Iris

I wanna be yours

Levitating

No excuses

Peru

Riptide

Romantic homicide

Shallow

Starboy

Starlight

Stay

Super freaky girl

Snap

Where are you now

Wonderwall

Yellow

Interestingly this time last year we had Shape Of You, Thinking Out Loud and Castle On The Hill (as well as Merry Christmas) in this week’s old rules Top 100. Ed’s back catalogue isn’t quite streaming like it was 12 months ago, but I guess the hype from the “=“ release has died down. Similarly we had Someone Like You and Rolling In The Deep this time last year.
