Missing out on the head-to-head final is Nelly Furtado's 2006 smash 'Maneater' which truly put her on the map as a mainstream pop artist! The song spent three weeks at #1 - becoming her first chart topper in the UK - and helped to set up Nelly for a career turnaround after the sophomore slump she experienced with 2003's Folklore. 'Maneater' surprisingly "only" reached #16 in the US - it was follow-up 'Promiscuous' which gave Nelly a massive #1 stateside - I always assumed it was a massive hit in America like it was over here!

Now we are left with Fragma vs Shakira. The first half of the decade has ruled this survivor!

Wow a bit surprised Nelly is 3rd despite voting for it all the time practically.. 'Maneater' I didn't like at the time but has sounded better nowadays. I really like 'Say It Right' and 'All Things.. ' from that era though!

Adore both Fragma and Shakira but I'm going for Shakira, only just though!

Toca's Miracle to win of course. :D

Oh great Fragma managed to hold on, we have a dance song in the final :cheer:

Outstanding top 2 though. Shakira will obv win but my vote goes to Fragma.

oops! Out of habit just voted for the one I wanted to boot out (Fragma) when I want Shakira to win. Sorry! If it's a tie just vote again...

No worries I corrected it in the poll for you. :D

'Promiscuous' was actually the lead single in the US (and Australia)! 'Maneater' was 2nd and then 'Say It Right' was 3rd, unlike the UK where it was 4th. So 'Maneater' was a #16 hit sandwiched between 2 #1s in the US.

I don't know why it didn't do better though. Maybe it just got swallowed up between the other 2 on radio as they were probably both more US-friendly, or the label didn't push it much as they were more invested in 'Say It Right'.

It's kind of a shame because if it had been less successful, maybe they would've re-released it after 'Say It Right'. That worked for P!nk at the same time - 'Who Knew' was originally only an #18 bubbling under hit in 2006, and I think her album was written off as a flop there, but then 'U + Ur Hand' gradually crawled its way up to major success and 'Who Knew' was re-released after, and became a long-charting top 10 hit (and huge radio hit), peaking about 14 months after its initial bubbling under 'success'.

('Toca's Miracle' is my favourite)

voted for Fragma.

I still listen to it and it's still on many of my playlists...as much as I adore Shakira, I just never go back to Whenever, Wherever!!!

FACTS.
