July 22, 20204 yr Author 4. The Heart Wants What It Wants Average: 8.71 I'm not alive until you call: Bré, Jade, Josh! (11) Bjork, Dexton, George.keh, Tombo, UltraBeKind (10) Save your advice cause I won't hear: Tawdry Hepburn (5) Riser (6.5) Again increasing the average by the tiniest amount possible (Spoiler for stat nerds of obscure BuzzJack rates: 3rd place is only a bit higher :magic:) and our 4th placer is Selena's final single with Hollywood Records, 'The Heart Wants What It Waaaaaaaants'. THWWIW was the first hit at the slinky Selena we know and worship today, giving us a new R&B sound. This was massive in America, shocker, equalling the peak of Come & Get It (#6) to be her joint highest placer at the time. Tragedily it only got #30 here even after a held back release (I seem to remember, very vaguely the release being kinda botched here? idk I could be wrong). This was deffo a foreshadowing of the Revival era, and the more vulnerable side of Selena we'd see so beautifully and frequently in years to come. I gave this an 8, I did really enjoy it, but I'm already regretting that score. I'm literally having an epiphany with this song as we speak :cheeseblock: I paid it dust for years but I have no clue why, Selena carries the R&B sound with ease and the wa-a-a-a-a-a-nts is infectious. 10's across the board. Top 3 wooo: Good For You (feat. A$AP Rocky) Hands To Myself Lose You To Love Me #3 coming at 11pm.
July 22, 20204 yr 'Naturally' is a classic! So wouldn't have ever predicted at the time she'd still be around and a going concern 10 years later.
July 22, 20204 yr Author 3. Hands To Myself Average: 8.88 I want you all to myself: George.keh, Jay* (11) Andrew., Cameron, Jonjo, Liam, Tombo, UltraBeKind, Wall (10) People say what they wanna say: Riser (5) Nick F1 (6.5) We need to talk about that cover. That picture is a conversion therapist's dream, she looks HOT 😍 'Hands To Myself' was the third and first post-album single from Revival and arguably took Selena from B- list to the upper echelons of pop (outside the US where she was already there obvs) The video came two months after the album's release and the song still became the biggest song from the era worldwide, her 4th consecutive top 10 single in America and it reached #14 here. How often nowadays does a proper post-album single become the biggest? I know it was different even in 2016 but still, slay. The video is honestly in the category of 'best of the 10's' for me, it's not just sexy but compelling viewing throughout. This was an 11 contender for me  The second I heard it when the album came out I fell in love, incredible. So deserving of top 3. And 'I mean I could, but why would I want to' saved pop music, no exaggeration *.*
July 22, 20204 yr Author The battle is between Good For You and Lose You To Love Me. Selena's last two singles, but what will win? Come back at 23:30 and all will be revealed x
July 22, 20204 yr Hopefully GFY but I think it may be LYTLM, but either way they're both great songs! 'Hands To Myself' is her very best song ever (I know it didn't get my 11, but that was because I wanted to support Live Like There's No Tomorrow!) The top 5 is all fantastic tbh. I definitely get why they're all here.
July 22, 20204 yr I go back to 'Hands To Myself' so often and never get bored of it. I'd prefer a 'Good For You' win here.
July 22, 20204 yr That is the correct top 2 tbh  I'd prefer Good for You but don't mind either way too much!
July 22, 20204 yr Author 02. Lose You To Love Me Average: 9.17 Gave my all and they all know it: Bjork, Nina West, ...ready for it, UltraBeKind (11) Andrew., George.keh, Jonjo, JosephStyles, Josh!, Liam, Riser (10) Sang off key in my chorus: blacksquare (5) Nick F1, Tombo (7) It had been over two years since Selena had released a solo single when 'Lose You To Love Me' came out but she came back with a bang. A heart-mended together anthem, it connected with people on a different level to any other Selena song without a doubt. It not only became her first #1 on the Hot 100 but it debuted there as well. Over here it was a top three hit, above anything she'd done before and worldwide it was the same. Thinking about it actually, everytime Selena starts a new era she surprises us with her sound; The Hearts Wants What It Wants, Good For You, Bad Liar and this. She never keeps it safe with her leads and that's part of why she's an A-Grade pop girl! This song is the feels. Even for those of us who have never been in a relationship, there's something to connect with and Selena embodies that finding of inner strength perfectly and not in a cliched way at all. The piano backing is stunning throughout and when the choir comes in...sheesh. What a beautiful single. A top 2.
July 22, 20204 yr Author 01. Good For You (feat. A$AP Rocky) Average: 9.24 How proud I am to be yours: blacksquare, JosephStyles (11) Andrew., Cameron, Jade, Jonjo, Liam, Nina West, Tombo (10) Tryna mess your image up: Riser (6) Bjork, George.keh, Nick F1 (8) At the time of 'Good For You' being released, Selena's future as a pop girl was uncertain. Not bleak, she'd just had top 10 in the US but WW she hadn't really established herself properly despite Come & Get It and Naturally being cute bops the GP liked. Good For You marked the beginning of the Revival era and a change in label, sound, image and artistry all for the better. It was released OA/OS here literally just before it became the norm so it had a slow start, but in the end was a hit at #23 and is coming for plat. It might not have matched the peaks of some other songs but in terms of impact Selena had never been bigger. It was her first top 5 single in America, and the start of an era where she moved up the pop ranks! It's between this and 'Fetish' for my fave Selena song, so I'm very happy at this result. GFY blends pop and R&B to make this amazing sexy hybrid, you FEEL Selena's voice. I looked through the BJ thread for this out of curiosity and the feedback around A$AP's feature was the one negative it got but I think it's really important for the song actually. He suits the vibe it has and delivers a great verse, I've heard the solo version and it doesn't have the same magic. I can't get this out of my head again since the rate started aha. Well done
July 22, 20204 yr 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' as high as fourth and 'Good For You' winning - YES BuzzJack  Thanks for doing this Andrew!
July 22, 20204 yr Good for You is absolutely SUBLIME, and it's aged like a fine wine too! Thanks for hosting Andrew ^_^
July 22, 20204 yr Love that top 5!!! Unexpected winner for me- I thought Hands to Myself was gonna win but love a surprise winner can’t complain. Shame the trash that is WDTA and LAHN got so high :/

July 22, 20204 yr A great winner! I thought LYTLM would steal the victory (wouldn't have been a bad thing though), but Good For You was the first song of hers where I "got" the hype around her "star quality". I liked a few songs before, obviously, but GFY was in such a different league. Thank you Andrew!
July 22, 20204 yr An good winner  ('The Heart Wants What It Wants' is better but that and 'Good For You' are by far the 2 biggest standouts of her discog so happy that one of them took the win and they both did well).
July 23, 20204 yr Thanks for doing this Andrew. I was bracing myself for a Revival-era winner, pleased to see Lose You put up a fight though. I love Look At Her Now but even so, to beat Bad Liar on a tiebreak is just wrong -_-
July 23, 20204 yr Great job thanks for hosting Would much have preferred LYTLM at #1 Good for Me it's ok but not that memorable, for some reason I never remember how it goes even if I've listened to it 100 times for me the ideal top 3 would have been 1 Lose you to love me 2 Fetish 3 The heart wants what it wants the only 3 songs she has that are at least a 10/10
July 23, 20204 yr The right song won for once :o Adore Good For You, I think it’ll always be my favourite of hers.
