July 28, 20206 yr Bet Roman is fuming looks like he would have been a clear #1 had Taylor not done the surprise release!
July 28, 20206 yr But then that would effect all acts, not just Little Mix. Honestly I don’t wanna be mean but some of these excuses :’) Of course it would, but you'd expect it to have a particular effect on a song called Holiday... It's really not that difficult a concept to understand

July 28, 20206 yr Isn't it just the established hits that get a boost from hot weather? I'm pretty sure we had this conversation with 'Break Up Song' which seemed not to receive a boost from nice weather.
July 28, 20206 yr It’s not difficult to understand, it’s just not accurate I'm not seeing anything to suggest it's not accurate? The Summer Hits playlist is streamed more on sunny days. The same happens on Apple Music and the effect is noticeable there! The weather genuinely does affect streaming. Would it make Holiday a #1? Of course not, but it could make a small difference.
July 28, 20206 yr I think I'd say about 12k, though they have grown loads in a year! Back in December I saw them in a 750 capacity venue, now they're doing Ally Pally next year to 10,000+! Yes I’d suggest they’ve grown a lot since their debut which got lots of exposure and appeared high in various lists. They also have a style which has an older fanbase than some other indie acts that have done well so possible more likely to buy a physical product. 20k might be pushing it slightly but I would have thought double Dogrel’s first week was certain tbh, that recharted in December for a week which is pretty unheard of for an indie act, not sure if there was a specific reason for it but indicates more longevity than that type of album would usually have. Ah yeah that's fair enough! I imagine it re-entered in December as the tour was around then - and you're right with the varied audience. In Southampton, there was a clear division with the young people at the front and older people stood at the back
July 28, 20206 yr You know what else could be holding 'Holiday' back is it is a beyond average song. You said the same about Break Up Song and how it would have 3 weeks top 40. It had like 10 weeks top 20?
July 28, 20206 yr You said the same about Break Up Song and how it would have 3 weeks top 40. It had like 10 weeks top 20? Well you can buy a chart hit these days as long as the cheques clear to Spotify. I'm sure we will see the same with Holiday so I don't know why Little Mix fans need to make stupid excuses.

Surely the same goes both ways with you making excuses every time an act you don't like has a bit of success?

I don't even care about Little Marx but regardless it doesn't make sense from the business point of view to constantly buy a way into a big playlist for a song that has no potential to be a hit and have longevity. Okay, you get a Top 5 the first week (and even that is probably mostly front-loaded by fanbase) but how long can a label keep this up? Surely the purpose is for the song to make money not drain the budget for a few weeks in the chart :') Besides, it's not like Spotify are just going to waste a playlist space for something that doesn't have much engagement with the audience. If you just see paying for play listing as paying for a TV or radio advert for a single it makes sense. It is speculated money that they will hopefully get back if not through the actual song through an album or tour tickets.
July 28, 20206 yr Have these "bought playlist spots" ever actually helped songs become hits? Serious question! Edited July 28, 20206 yr by SKOB
