a surprise album by Katy Perry would have zero streams

you like in an alternative reality if you think she would do 50K like Taylor's gonna do

how likely is it looking for "the 1" to stay top 10? and i definitely do think it would be harder for Katy to have pulled off something like this.
I see the One Direction albums benefitting from the 10 year anniversary but their debut album is nowhere in sight. Is there an explanation for this? I thought that album would be up there too

Ellie Goulding got a #1 album last week lol.

And by how its dropping in week 2 is prime example of the opposite of what they are saying  people went out of their way to check it out last week

Madonna's Ray of Light and Gaga's ASIB scream gay audience lol....

Funny that people think that female artists can't have commercial appeal beyond the gays when they are over 30. I know looooooads of straight men who really like Lady Gaga. People just appreciate talent, versatility and artistry. Madonna, Taylor and Gaga all have that and they all take different approach to their art.

I would also claim that Kylie wouldn't have as long career as she has on the top of pop industry if she didn't have her indie phase in the 90s. Where the Wild Roses Grow is still regarded as one of the decade's masterpieces.

If an artist sticks only to one type of pop music and doesn't experiment, it is always harder to maintain the popularity. It's not rocket science.

Wasn’t Ellie’s sales mostly made up of physical/downloads instead of streams? Would have had a poor first week if it was solely based on streams.

Definitely depends on the artist and the type of music they are releasing. Glad this one is doing well for Taylor as a one off project. This sort of music wouldn’t do so well with the typical orchestrated release strategy behind her pop albums, so definitely the right move.

I hope Holiday can sneak into the top 10 at some point, deserved that at least.

This.

Let's not downplay female artists' success to "just being for the gays" when the artists in question have evolved and transformed their music over the years and decades, capturing new audiences each time.

Of course these acts have HUGE gay followings, but that's not the only audience sustainable for females over 30!

i dont know why people diss the fact that most of these female pop artists above 30 rely “mostly” on the gay fanbase... its a fact, they’re the one buying the concert tickets, albums, merchandise etc... they idolise their divas therefore spend loads of money on them... the straight audience is mostly made of occasional fans, they dont go crazy over their favorite female singers and buy VIP tickets to their concerts... i’ve been to hundred of concerts by Kylie, Madonna, Cher, Britney,Gaga etc... and what i’ve noticed is that a very large portion of their attendance are gay men....

as for Kylie’s 90s output i dont think it helped her career since the songs weren’t embraced by the gay audience or music audience in general, besides Confide in me and the 1990 PWL songs.... It was Spinning around that helped put her back on the international music scene and Can’t get you out of my head and the Fever album is the reason why she’s as successful as she is now...

How likely is it for the bottom 2 Taylor tracks to be pushed out of the top 10? (that's what I'm hoping for fwiw).

Not very likely at all

Pop and Juice are doing much better than I expected them to.... I thought both would be out of top 20 already. Wonder why Bob Marley is selling that well again? Vinyl re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release?

I don't think we'd have the same Kylie today had she not had that period before the comeback, that's why I would say it's an important part of her career.

Picture Disc LP released this week.

Those sales would have got Ronan Keating a number 1 on a good few weeks, i think he will be happy with how the album is selling for him. Great to see Bob Marley so high and good move releasing the picture disc lp now.
