I could tell just from the content of the lyric that 4th one was Eminem but I don't know his lyrics well enough to have identified which song it was lel ~

Wasn't certain about either #3 or #5 so yay for those both being right!

6. I'm deluding you with my cake-like snack (2000s)

The original lyric was: I'm bluffin' with my muffin

And the song: Lady Gaga - Poker Face

This one got the (joint) lowest number of correct guesses, and I suspect a lot of you are gonna kick yourselves for not getting this! Popular incorrect answers included 'Milkshake' by Kelis, 'Bootylicious' by Destiny's Child and 'Goodies' by Ciara, all admittedly good guesses, but it was Gaga whose muffin was doin' the bluffin'!

Full marks (7/23): chrissmith276, Riser, n4yr, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Blade, Grim Bréaper

No marks (16/23): CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, jlj, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, Pting Rollo, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1

7. All I am is a destitute young man, devoid of anyone's affection. He's a destitute man from a destitute clan. (1970s)

The original lyric was: I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me. He's just a poor boy from a poor family.

And the song: Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Another fairly obvious one.

Full marks (20/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Grim Bréaper

8. Uneducated, I've been stood possibly waiting for a train, when the heavens opened (1990s)

The original lyric was: I've been standing at the station, in need of education in the rain

And the song: Oasis - Some Might Say

The other joint least correctly guessed one in this part, which I thought more of you would get for some reason.

9. With a small amount assistance from my mates, I make ends meet (1960s)

The original lyric was: I get by with a little help from my friends

And the song: Joe Cocker (not The Beatles) - With A Little Help From My Friends

OK so I expressly stated that these were all number one singles and I asked you for the artist and the title. The Beatles never had a hit with their version of the song although famously it has since been a number one hit three times by three different artists - Joe Cocker (1968), Wet Wet Wet (1988) and if anyone remembers them, Sam & Mark (2004). Since I also stated the decade as 1960s, the correct artist here was Joe Cocker. If you put The Beatles then you last half a point... sorry :P

Hats off to those ten people who put Joe Cocker :D

10. Vessel flutter manager stroll, fruit preserve details, what you're hearing is the male from the large, dreadful downtown (1990s)

The original lyric was: Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty, you're listening to the boy from the big bad city

And the song: Beats International feat. Lindy layton - Dub Be Good To Me

Full marks (14/23): chrissmith276, awardinary, StoneDragon, paulgilb, Riser, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX

One of my favourite ever intros to any song, I actually thought this would be the hardest one so I'm surprised that so many of you correctly guessed it. (I didn't dock anyone any points if they missed out Lindy Layton - I'm pedantic but not THAT pedantic!)

Part 3 answers coming up next!

Oh damn at The Beatles one - didn't even think to check the artist!

I thought for ages the cake like snack was a Twinky which was doing my head in and then muffin came to me!

I don't think I even knew that lyric was in Poker Face!

And fair play with the Beatles one, I'm usually on guard for that sort of thing in NMTBJs but this one caught me!

Well that's just rude, do you think I have time to read the small print when I'm rushing last minute answers xxxx

I don't know the lyrics to Oasis and Beats International particularly well so not kicking myself at those either. I am surprised so few people got 'Poker Face' (although admittedly that was another one that I wasn't 100% sure about).

Part 3 : Number One Intros

This was my favourite round to create, and I struggled to decide how difficult to make it but I think I just about found the right balance (though maybe I could have made it a touch more challenging, note to self for next time!)

1. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time

If you didn't get this one then what the hell are you doing on a music forum? Unsurprisingly, this is one of two songs that got a 100% correct guess rate :)

Full marks (23/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

2. Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin

A nice dramatic intro to one of the BEST SONGS of the 80s.

Full marks (15/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, jlj, n4yr, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Bjork, jimwatts, XhannahlongX

Half marks (1/23): Blade

No marks (7/23): Riser, PeteFromLeeds, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

3. One Direction - Live While We're Young (also the red herring, it only made #3)

This looks like the most fun anyone's ever had in a video! I'm actually surprised more people didn't get this one, but the most popular incorrect guess was 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' by The Clash, which the intro does slightly resemble tbf. And well done to those of you that correctly identified this as the red herring, it only made #3.

Full marks (15/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, Riser, jlj, n4yr, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Jahq-o-lantern, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1

Half marks (2/23): Ansel, Grim Bréaper

No marks (6/23): paulgilb, PeteFromLeeds, Pting Rollo, vibe, Bjork, jimwatts

Correctly identifying the red herring for 3 bonus points (16/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, Riser, jlj, n4yr, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Jahq-o-lantern, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1

4. Robbie Williams - Rock DJ

Almost everyone getting this one. A pretty cool video which takes an unexpectedly gruesome turn halfway through.

Full marks (22/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, n4yr, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

No marks (1/23): PeteFromLeeds

5. The Human League - Don't You Want Me

Full marks (16/23): chrissmith276, CianS, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, jlj, n4yr, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey

No marks (7/23): awardinary, Riser, PeteFromLeeds, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

One of several songs I included in both parts 2 and 3!

Edited by M4NGO

Yeah this is where my downfall begins  I did think #3 didn't sound exactly like The Clash but thought it must be a remastered version, would much rather lsiten to Should I Stay Or Should I Go than what it actually was :P

The fact I know all those songs but could only get one of the intros is interesting as well.

So pleased that I got full marks for the lyrics! Worth the brain exhaustion :D

Annoyed at myself for not having a flick through Pet Shop Boys songs to explore my #2 guess further but at least I got half marks :kink:

Don't You Want Me   have to say that I loved the mix of different decades!

Well that's one answer that I was pretty sure of that was actually wrong... apparently 'Live While We're Young' sounds exactly the same to my ears as 'What Makes You Beautiful'. (They're both terrible so I don't mind them sharing the same brain cells...)

Not quite sure how I didn't get 'Don't You Want Me' oops

I originally thought #3 might be someone covering The Clash, but couldn't quite place it - glad I guessed correctly at it being the non-#1 though!

6. Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit)

Full marks (20/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

No marks (3/23): paulgilb, Pting Rollo, vibe

7. A-ha - The Sun Always Shines On TV

Another one of my favourite intros, I love how ethereal it sounds. I always thought this song would lend itself really well to a trance remix (no doubt someone's already done one, I've never bothered to check).

Full marks (15/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, paulgilb, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX

No marks (8/23): Dobbo, Riser, Ansel, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

8. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy

The only other song which attracted correct guesses from the entire participant list :)

Full marks (23/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

9. DaBaby feat. Roddy Rich - Rockstar

I thought this would be close to a 100% correct guess rate seen as it's the most recent song in the list but it seems not!

Full marks (18/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, dan-G, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

No marks (5/23): paulgilb, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern

10. Stiltskin - Inside

Back in the 90s, if your song was used in a Levis ad, you knew you were gonna have a hit on your hands, and that's what happened to then-unknown Scottish rock band Stiltskin. One of the most unlikely number ones ever and also the least correctly guessed in the quiz by an absolute mile, with only 6 correct guesses! The fact that the choral sounding intro actually leads into a full on rock song threw most of you.

Full marks (6/23): chrissmith276, awardinary, StoneDragon, jlj, Bjork, jimwatts

No marks (17/23): , CianS, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

Didn't you even include some of the lyrics in the clip of 'ROCKSTAR'?

Well, about three barely intelligible words, but yes.

11. Example - Changed The Way You Kiss Me

One of two number ones for Example, I wonder how many of you would have got it if I'd gone with 'Stay Awake' instead?

Full marks (21/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

No marks (2/23): Pting Rollo, vibe

12. T. Rex - Get It On

Also known as 'Bang A Gong (Get It On)' for its US release, this was one of 9 consecutive Top 3 hits for the 70s glam rock band fronted by Marc Bolan, and the second of their 4 UK number ones. More people got this than I was expecting so well done!

Full marks (14/23): chrissmith276, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, jlj, n4yr, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX

No marks (9/23): CianS, awardinary, Riser, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, Jahq-o-lantern, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

13. Oasis - Some Might Say

Their first number one back in 1995 which kicked off the imperial phase of their career. I wasn't expecting so many of you to get this one either but I guess it helps that it's the lead single from one of the best selling albums of all time.

Full marks (17/23): chrissmith276, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, jlj, n4yr, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey

Half marks (1/23): Riser

No marks (5/23): CianS, PeteFromLeeds, Jahq-o-lantern, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

14. Michael Jackson - Blood On The Danceflor

Not quite the best song about murder on the dancefloor of course, this was the final UK number one of Jacko's stellar career, which I definitely thought more of you would get.

Full marks (14/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, jlj, n4yr, Pting Rollo, dan-G, vibe, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey

Half marks (1/23): Bjork (it wasn't Billie Jean!)

No marks (8/23): paulgilb, Riser, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, dj_tim_e, Jahq-o-lantern, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

15. Sigala - Easy Love

Sigala's debut single and only number one, this follows aptly on from the previous song by once again featuring Michael Jackson's vocals. Easy love, easy intro, judging by the scores.

Full marks (21/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

No marks (2/23): Pting Rollo, vibe

Oh wow I was NOT expecting Stiltskin to be that one! The clip sounded choral as you said and I couldn't think of anything that fit the bill. Of course... a switch-up happens. That song flies over my head a bit each time so I will be looking out for the intro in the future now. Hooray for getting everything else in that section - I think A-ha was the final one that clicked for me before I gave up! I re-listened to every U.K. #1 single while working from home at some point during lockdown and the T.Rex chart toppers were definitely highlights of the early 70s <3

And the final five answers are...

16. Madonna - Like A Prayer

Iconic intro, iconic song, iconic video. That is all.

Full marks (16/23): chrissmith276, CianS, StoneDragon, paulgilb, jlj, n4yr, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey

No marks (7/23): awardinary, Dobbo, Riser, PeteFromLeeds, dan-G, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

17. Razorlight - America

Something of a surprise number one for Razorlight, most of you recognised that distinctive guitar riff.

Full marks (19/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, dj_tim_e, dan-G, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1

Half marks (1/23): Dobbo (I'm guessing Radiohead was a blonde moment?!)

No marks (3/23): Pting Rollo, vibe, Grim Bréaper

18. Benny Blanco feat. Halsey & Khalid - Eastside

Full marks (19/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, n4yr, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, dan-G, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Cremey, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

No marks (4/23): Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern

19. Estelle feat. Jay-Z - American Boy

I actually would have struggled with this one if I'd have got it in a quiz so I'm impressed by how many of you got it right!

Full marks (15/23): chrissmith276, CianS, awardinary, Dobbo, Riser, jlj, n4yr, Ansel, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, Jahq-o-lantern, Bjork, Blade, Cremey

No marks (8/23): StoneDragon, paulgilb, PeteFromLeeds, Pting Rollo, jimwatts, XhannahlongX, Dan17F1, Grim Bréaper

20. Beats International feat. Lindy Layton - Dub Be Good To Me

One of Fatboy Slim's early bands, this 4 week number one sampled 'The Guns of Brixton' by The Clash for its famous bassline. The intro rap was sampled from 'Jam Hot', an obscure 1983 release by New York DJ Johnny Dynell.

As long as you got the lead artist, I gave you the point :)

Full marks (18/23): chrissmith276, awardinary, StoneDragon, Dobbo, paulgilb, Riser, jlj, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, Pting Rollo, dj_tim_e, dan-G, vibe, Bjork, jimwatts, Blade, XhannahlongX, Grim Bréaper

No marks (5/23): CianS, n4yr, Jahq-o-lantern, Cremey, Dan17F1

I purposely duplicated four of the songs in parts 2 and 3 (Britney, The Human League, Oasis & Beats International) - so you'll probably be kicking yourself if you got any of those in one part but not the other!

Results incoming shortly...

The duplicate definitely helped me get the Oasis lyric!

American Boy - still love that song and weirdly hear it a lot of the radio here in Turks & Caicos!
