I feel like that graph highlights how little relevance million sellers have now in that Can't get you out of my head has actually sold less than Shout out to my ex and having lived through both (and loving both songs) CGYOOMH certainly felt like the much bigger impacting hit, it was such a MONSTER hit at the time.

Agreed - SOTME is a great song, but it’s certainly not a classic.

Shout out is most certainty a classic. It's far from my favourite little mix song - but that and black magic are modern classics with the general public.

Agreed.

I feel like SOTME has had just as big an impact as CGYOMH. Unlike, for example, some of biggest hits (I just don't think people care or remember them as much as they do with SOTME or CGYOMH)

I have no idea about the relative impact of Shout-out vs Head, but I do think it’s difficult to compare success of singles from the past 10 years to the years preceding based on sales alone. Currently 13 of the top 20 singles of all time in the U.K. are from the past 10 years, largely down to recurring streaming. Kylie’s Dancing has now outsold Slow due mainly to streaming - does that mean that Dancing has had a bigger impact than Slow?

For what it's worth (and as a fan of both artists) CHYOOMH is absolutely a classic iconic hit and SOTME, despite being one of Little Mix's signature songs, is nowhere near it in terms of impact. It's obviously too soon to comment on long-term longevity as SOTME is still relatively recent.

I agree that it's really difficult to compare hits from different eras though. The music industry has changed so much.

Also I missed voting in this but I would have probably said Kylie but with much lower sales than anticipated, with 'Say Something' and 'Sweet Melody' as my favourite tracks.

CGYOOMH probably is the bigger of the two but SOTME is probably the closest your gonna get to a modern day classic equivalent

I respectfully disagree. CGYOOMH is one of the defining songs of the last 20 years. The song and video are iconic. SOTME was a big hit but it's not comparable. It remains to be seen whether any of Little Mix's songs will have the same lasting impact as CGYOOMH.

Anyway back to Disco!

What will happen today?

More formats? More signed stuff? What will the todays totals be , set to be announced after 10am......

Will it be RCA v BMG for last minute crazy promo etc? Or will it be quiet ....

maybe it’s just a difference in demographics.

I think whilst CGYOOMH is the bigger of the two songs, SOTME is not that far behind really.

Everybody I know, knows SOTME. If it’s played on a night out it pops OFF and I think either that or Black Magic have become really defining hits for them in the UK.

 Girl power!

P.S Buy and stream the fantastic Top 10 album ‘Melanie C’ :smoke:

Finally midweeks today before the big chart reveal! Eeek

I always knew Mel C had wonderful taste.

Kylie's team have handled the Disco campaign remarkably well this week.

Hi huns

What is your fave LM and Kylie album? My fave Kylie album is either Fever, Aphrodite or Disco.

My fave LM album is LM5. I love Woman like me. I heard the album was a flop though, is that true? I love it and remember hearing their only single from that album on the x factor. Maybe I am wrong? Anyway, I am glad this albums doing well!

Thanks huns

Some detailed Thursday info:

#1 - 50,397 - Kylie

Physicals: 42,436

Downloads: 5,690

Streaming: 2,271

#2 - 45,309 - Little Mix

Physicals: 33,983

Downloads: 3,742

Streaming: 7,584

Sales achieved on Wednesday:

Kylie -

Overall: +5,304

Physicals: +4,713

Downloads: +214

Streaming: +377

Little Mix -

Overall: +4,307

Physicals: +2,770

Downloads: +237

Streaming: +1,300

Wow interesting to see that LM actually did better on downloads than Kylie then yesterday.

Crazy to think that if her team hadn’t gone in on the signed booklets, prints etc she wouldn’t of stood any chance of getting the #1, annoying really when if LM had pushed they would of absolutely smashed it instead we had a £40 and a £43 bundle and a t shirt bundle.

Amazing streams for LM though looks like it’ll do so much better than LM5’s first week streaming.

Little Mix did have a few rounds of signed CDs + signed vinyl & signed polaroids though! I wonder if Little Mix hadn’t have done many signed items, whether Kylie’s team wouldn’t have requested Kylie to do so much signing? All in all I would say it’s been a pretty level playing field in terms of tactics and overall formats available. It was definitely a good battle from both sides!

It’s funny to look back at the charts/sales from years ago. Kylie’s 2003 album Body Language sold 68,000 to enter at #6... and that was with just one CD available! It was also regarded as being an underperformance. Times have certainly changed!
