I thought he said schools were safe this morning? Moron.

Better to act late rather than never isn't it?

But everyone else got to this conclusion a while ago. He’s not fit to lead the country.

Not quite.

I have little faith in either party at this point — which is just utterly depressing.

Touché.

Labour have been appalling. Way more concerned about winning Brexiteers over than actual public safety. They’ve lost my vote.

Sky saying a Portuguese woman, 41, with no health problems, suffered a sudden death 48 hours after taking the vaccine. I had my doubts before but definitely not having any vaccine now. She was fine for the previous 48 hours after receiving the vaccine then it seems her heart just stopped. Co-incidence or not? Post-mortem takes place shortly but they say it may not show anything, as it didn't with my daughter.

Not saying it's not safe for most people but most isn't enough to convince me. Also I read today that they can't guarantee that it won't cause long term side effects or infertility. Not that that affects me now.

Yet millions of others have had it and are still alive and breathing.

Inevitable - but kind of looks ridiculous when Boris was saying 'schools are safe' not 24 hours ago.

Yes his words seem a bit silly today.

I’m not confident there’ll be a u-turn today, I think they may wait until tomorrow. They need to have teachers not turn up and chaos so that they can blame any change on the unions and vilify the teachers.

I may have predicted it almost exactly right.

Did she work for the NHS? Because unless she does, I’m surprised she even got the vaccine if she’s only 41 and had no health problems.

You mean every day.

Yes the woman worked for the Portuguese health service in Paediatrics.

Anyway the whole thing is a load of shite. I can cut some slack for the early days, but saying schools are safe then 60 hours later ordering a national lockdown just reeks of a Government that have no control. I can only assume the modelling is really bad for the end of January. From a selfish perspective I could really do with the gyms open etc. but they need to stress the gravity of the situation if it really is that bad.

I am absolutely furious and utterly disappointed and mortified at the situation.

What has truly sent me over the edge is the school situation. If schools are closing from tonight.... could this not have been done YESTERDAY, a few hours before THOUSANDS of schools across the country opened their doors today and allowed millions of kids to mix together. It literally boils down to a few hours, potentially saving MANY LIVES.

Coming off the back of a two-week holiday was the perfect time to not reopen the schools because children are already isolating at home. Instead, allowing them to mix today (and maybe for the rest of the week) is utterly pointless and downright stupid.

Luckily, our headteacher closed for today (for children) and are only opening tomorrow for key worker/vulnerables, even though the council says schools should be open. That is the sign of a leader prioritising the PEOPLE and the community over politics. But what about the thousands of schools that did open today?

It takes a lot to make me angry, but this state of affairs has done that and then some. I despair.

Full solidarity with teachers - my mum works as a TA and she has been really stressed and worried about returning to work this week. Think they had a First Aid course in the school today with no kids around so she was less worried about that.

I think it is the uncertainty that is the biggest issue, I understand that nobody really wants the schools to be closed and that the situation is rapidly evolving but the fact is that SAGE were arguing against schools reopening in mid-December. That could have been planned before the schools broke up last year but again these difficult decisions were delayed and deferred with no thought to how much impact it actually has. I hope things become much easier and less stressful for you soon.

Someone here said the government of the rich would make a giant u turn the DAY AFTER schools went back, and of course that's what they decided to go and do. They are playing politics in a pandemic!

100% all of this.

He told parents to send their kids into school. He said that YESTERDAY. The danger some children and staff may have been in today. It’s horrific to think about.

I’m still concerned about Wales. I really wouldn’t be surprised if Drakeford refuses to close schools even after England do as Labour seem to be pig headedly following the ‘children’s education is more important than their lives’ mantra and only seem interested in point scoring against Boris.

No they've probably had some information today that points to an even worse situation later in the month if we don't go in to lockdown now. Things change almost hourly in these situations, bit like being at war with an unseen enemy.

The informaton has not changed. The government should have listened and responded IN ADVANCE, rather than blame the chaos on schools and then close them anyway after putting people in unnecessary danger.

How do you know what info No.10 and the Dept. Of Health have had privately today? You don't. None of us do so don't assume nothing has changed today. Not everything is made public.
