Labour have been doing the rounds this morning calling for the Amber List to be scrapped

I really wish some of these politicians would think before opening their mouths. Not everyone itching to leave the UK is doing so for a week on the costa Del sol. (And tbh so what if they are, it keeps them away from the interesting destinations)

A lot of people who are vaccinated fully want to travel to see family and their loved ones who live abroad. Still, even after a huge petition on the Gov website and a parli debate the needs of these people are being comprehensively ignored.

Not only that, but the UK rules are prohibitively expensive to comply with. It’s frustrating because it’s keeping families apart and for a lot of young emigrant Brits it’s been a long, lonely and extremely tough 15 months

While I see both sides of the coin, I do agree with Labour on the Amber list. It is just totally confusing and in no way enforceable on a large scale. So for every 10 people you get going, 3-4 might stick to the rules and the rest don't really know what is going on.

Look at the situation with Portugal right now - going to go from Green to Amber and then I bet you 50% of people that have booked their holidays or visits there won't comply, so I just don't get the point. If they are wanting travel it should be Green and Red and the chances of a Green country going to the Red should be about 0.01%. It's nigh on impossible to fully stop these variants creeping in but you can slow them down and minimise risk in the short term until everyone is fully jabbed up.

Punishing people by forcing them to spend 2k on shite hotel quarantine because the Government is as useful as a chocolate teapot is not the answer and never will be. Ensuring families remain divided and people remain stranded from their loved ones alone is a heartless policy aimed at immigrants and young educated single emigrants.

Especially when fully vaccinated people aren’t gonna be bringing back new strains from Many of these countries because they simply don’t have the strains there.

Exactly why should most of Europe be on a red list when we’ve done a far better job at keeping the Delta/Indian strain out than the UK has. It’s 2% of infections in Germany. You’re on our red list because it’s 50% of The UKs. Removing most of Europe from the amber list where it’s actually *less* dangerous with variants than the UK is f***ing ridiculous Tory logic

And now its in some of the newspaper websites about this new 'Nepal variant' which has reached Europe and 'scientists fear is resistant to vaccines' :drama:

Here’s an idea, Stop reading the gutter trash that will make up anything for clicks.

Both the WHO and the Government of Nepal say there’s no such thing. Alpha, Delta and Kappa are circulating in Nepal with Delta being the most prominent

Honestly some people will believe literally anything they read

Yeah and I totally get that and it's rubbish but I genuinely don't know what else could be done. The hotel quarantine system is flawed but it's been pretty useful for other countries, our problem was implementing it too late and not effectively.

But then what happens when everyone starts going to Amber countries and spreading the Delta/Indian variant to Europe? It's lose lose. The Amber list is actually ridiculous, should be Green or Red. I'm not against people travelling who are vaccinated to other high vaccinated countries, but right now the Amber list is stupid, confusing and nobody really knows if you should be going to these countries or not. Or how close they are to being in the Red.

There is literally no point to the amber list, agreed. And the messaging is completely confusing. If you're not supposed to go there then just say it. At the start of this traffic light system introduction it wasn't actively discouraged to travel to amber, only to red.

Either have no quarantine or hotel quarantine. The middle option can't be monitored properly which makes it completely redundant.

Wales has now gone one whole week without a reported Covid death.
Portugal now off the green list and nothing added. How many people are gonna regret missing that 3-week window of opportunity...

Which is exactly my point with the amber list - now we have thousands of people who will have a booked a holiday to Portugal and now shouldn't be going, but will go because they've booked it and nobody really has any clue what is going on.

The head of the Icelandic-UK Tourist Board just bagged herself a massive bonus.

Over 5k new infections today - suspect this is the impact of indoor hospitality showing through, which was to be expected. The good news is the infections seem to be in the Under 40s but Christ, you get the feeling if we go mental on June 21st then it's going to be chaotic.
Infections were always going to go up when things open up, particularly amongst unvaccinated groups. Which is why June 21st was always a ridiculously early end date. It’s the hospitalisations and deaths we should be keeping an eye on.
Was peeping at Scotland’s numbers earlier and while cases are rising in specific areas exponentially, thankfully where im from isn’t seeing the same rise, there has only been a tiny bump up in hospitalisations. If that holds track then that’s a good sign that the vaccines are working

While I agree to an extent, there are lots of people who "should" in theory have been vaccinated but either haven't or are waiting for the 2nd dose, looking at what is coming out from PHE who are getting infected in that 40-49 category. Seems the majority of the infections are related to the North West in England at least.

In Northern Ireland, in the last 7 days the amount of people tested has increased by 1/3 over the previous 7 day period, but in spite of this the amount of people testing positive has decreased period on period. Only 3 people have been admitted to hospital in the past 7 days (compared to 10 in the prior week, and well down from the c700 admissions at the peak in January), and only 17 hospitalised (down from 27 last week, and down from the peak of 1,051 in January), so things are going fairly well since the re-opening here. It's been 10 days since most things reopened here, so if we do see an uptake in cases, then it's in the next week that we can expect to see it in the numbers, based on what we know about the virus. Looks like the vaccine has done its job so far here.

Labour know full well that there's a certain demographic in Britain who instinctively take a liking to the sound of 'close the borders!' regardless of if there's a pandemic or not. It won't help them for debate about covid measures to be on this territory.

Isn't the whole point of a 3rd colour to warn people? I mean with green and red it's either all in or all out. In The Netherlands we even have 4  Green, yellow, orange and red! But we've always had those even before Ms Rona

We only have two in Germany but they’re both risk lists. One is just high incidence and you can get out of quarantine by being fully vaxxed and the other is flight bans.

In happy news, for me anyway, the 7 day rate in Berlin dropped below 30 this morning for the first time since last September! Finally that traffic light is no longer red 😭

In The Netherlands is

Green: do whatever you want

Yellow: Travelling is allowed but watch out for any risks

Orange: Travelling is strongly advised against unless necesary

Red: Travelling is prohibited unless necesart

I think both red and orange need quarantaine and testing as well as travel agencies offering to take you back. PreRona it was war, unrest and shit that caused the codes

I hate the word necesary and I probably missspelled it 3 times, but y'all shall deal x

I'm so happy with the numbers in both NL and BE CRASHING. Both are at the lowest since somewhere in october :cheeseblock:

Now I need the Belgians to stop being so damn traumatised by their previous peaks and OPEN THE f*** UP like Eurovision told them to x

MRHA has approved the use of Pfizer in 12-17 year olds. August/September time? Think this goes a long way to helping prevent any autumn/winter waves.
