Circa Waves really came into their own on my chart this year, with two Top 10 smashes, the first of which is here. I was four months late to this one though, and actually knew it for a little while before realising it should be in my personal chart, however it is a massive tune and all the opposites in the lyrics are quite fun to spot as well!

The second and highest Of Monsters and Men appearance now, and like the first one it was actually released some way into 2019, but I got into it after hearing it on Jupiter's EOY last year and, thanks to a lack of new releases last January this became an easy Top 10. It's such a powerful indie-pop song with a brilliant melody that unexplainably left me coming back for more. Sounding brilliant giving it a listen now!

This is definitely a 2019 song, although evidently I thought it might get a new peak in 2020 so didn't include it in last year's chart. It still sounds very good though, Klingande's production being on top form and Bright Sparks providing great vocals (if they do indeed provide vocals, I can't say I know too much about them)

2018 EOY #1 Amy Shark made her big someback this year and, after a comeback single which was a tad disappointing, this was much more on form. It features drummer Travis Barker, who is from a famous American band but I can't remember exactly which one now, although it doesn't matter as his drumming is perfectly fine here. Amy hasn't reached the dizzy heights of I Said Hi yet but this is a step in the right direction!

Rounding off this section we have the highest entry from SeeB, who after a few rubbish years seem to have found their form again with songs like this. Despite the drop being a little overwhelming, it is more than made up for by the brilliantly put together verses and the vocals from St. Lundi who, despite the French-sounding name, is actually from an island off the English coast called Hayling Island, which I'd never heard of until now. This song definitely deserves a better video though!

Always great to see Of Monsters and Men here - one of their songs Visitor was a big hit for me this year, but I don't think I ever heard either of these ones before! The Hayling Island mention is a surprise as I'm actually from around that area, Colourblind is a nice sounding tune!

I just liked to C'MON and found it a pretty cool rocky-ballad. I liked how it started quite slow with the piano and then really picked up the pace from the chorus onwards.

Travis Barker's from Blink-182 but I can't say I particularly noticed his drumming in that song. It's not as wild as a track you'd expect with him featured.

Visitor unfortunately never clicked as much with me, its peak on my chart was very much thanks to these two songs and it fell quite quickly. Interesting about Hayling Island - I wondered whether anyone would pop up and say they were from round there! St. Lundi seems like a decent vocalist anyway, I gave some of his solo stuff a listen last night and enjoyed it very much. Thanks Ansel!

Glad you liked C'MON! Ah it's blink-182 then, I definitely did read that somewhere but have since forgotton, I do think that if I hadn't seen the title I wouldn't have noticed a featured drummer though. Thanks Lewis!

Another Top 100 debutant here, Tom Gregory was probably most well known this year for his collaboration with VIZE but this was the song which really grabbed me from him this year. It's (perhaps unsurprisingly from me) very good indie-pop with a nice punchy beat.

2020 FINALLY brought with it the much-anticipated return of Jack Garratt, and since I've just seen someone berating him in the Friday Chart Predictions thread I'll use this space to sing his praises as he's one of the most exciting and talented musicians out there at the moment, outdoing a good chunk of the artists above him in that regard. This song didn't grab me initially but after a few weeks of listening I realised I absolutely loved it, all the instrumentation coming together to produce an absolute adventure of a song, even making time for some iconic lyrics, such as 'an hourglass is just a glass with sand inside' which was my member title for a while this year. And he's still got another to come!

Next up is a song which I can categorically say you've never heard before (or at least I'd be very surprised if you had!) Around midway through the year I decided to search for some non-Western worship music to top up my playlist, and this is the one that grabbed me the most, from Nigerian singer-songwriter Mercy Chinwo. Granted, it's not the most lively or Afro-beat-y song, but it's exactly what I needed at this point in the year and has some stunning vocals from Mrs. Chinwo.

After our brief foray into African worship music we're back onto indie now with Lucia and her Best Boys, who provided one of my favourite BJSC entries from this year, not least because it transported me right back to the late 00s in terms of indie music, reminding me of a song which I don't have a clue what it is. This is brilliant in its own right though and definitely deserved to do as well as it did!

Aaand to finish off this batch of 5 we go from one BJSC +18 to another, although this one is robotic-vocalled dance instead of indie. Whilst this never made the Top 10, it was very near the top of my to-play list for months on end and remains a favourite now. I was somewhat surprised to learn that CYNEMA was Irish though!

Ooh I'm not sure from the past few! I'd probably say Rather Be You from the last group, and then maybe Colourblind? Thanks for commenting!

Perfectly Untrue was one of the better indie-pop tracks from BJSC of recent times, it even had a few points from me.

Like It Is was a hit in my chart too of course although not quite as big for me.

I've not been fond of Seeb for quite a few years now sadly, besides that Hallucinogenics remix.

Rather Be You is pretty good indeed! I actually quite liked a Tom Gregory song a few years back called Run to You, I actually own it on CD single which remains extremely random  Colourblind is a bop, Seeb are hit and miss for me generally but this is a good one!

Omg, Rather Be You appearing :o :cheeseblock:

Tom Gregory was a revelation for me in 2020, Fingertips is still my favourite but his album is so good and everything that’s followed singles-wise has been great too!

Glad you were a fan of Perfectly Untrue, Like It Is was a pretty suprising hit in my chart as I'm not usually into things *that* pop-leaning but it is fab. Shame about Seeb, I'll admit they're very hit and miss but I do think they have their good moments. Thanks Dan!

Elderbrook's highest appearance here, this is an absolute earworm of a track and spent over a month glued to the #3 position. Unfortunately this song is marred with me moving away from home and down to Wiltshire as I listened to it so much over those first few weeks, so hearing it again now brings back bizarre memories. It's still a tune though!
