31 Delta Goodrem - Only Santa Knows | 3-5-9-12-13-15-x

32 Gunnar Gehl - One Second of One Day | 2-7-10-15-x

33 Anson Seabra - Songs I Wrote in My Bedroom | 1-2-5-8-9-13-15-x

34 Sam Smith - Love Goes | 5-…

35 Taylor Swift - evermore | 3-4-8-…

36 Taylor Swift - folklore | 1-4-5-6-10-14-14-15-x

37 Frans - Present | 3-6-12-14-x

38 Lauv - ~how i'm feeling~ | 2-7-12-x

39 Steps - What the Future Holds | 3-10-x

40 Carrie Underwood - My Gift | 3-6-9-x

Some festive albums from Carrie Underwood and Delta Goodrem bookend this section, which also features debut albums from Lauv, Frans and Anson Seabra - the latter of whom claims his release is an EP but at 15 tracks I think it probably isn't  Gunnar Gehl's is technically an EP too but 9 tracks is enough for me to include it here, the Frans album also has 9 tracks after all :') Steps make their first appearance in one of my EOY charts, and Sam Smith's best album to date appears here. Taylor Swift is in the middle section of the chart twice as we already lose a #1 album. I love Taylor and the hype around folklore sent it to #1 for me but neither album is truly to my taste as much as she usually is. evermore was an improvement despite the lower peak, thanks to being a bit more varied!

Unfortunately I listened to about three albums in total last year so not familiar with most of these :( Any in particular you'd recommend? I have of course heard the charting songs from both Taylor albums and they surprised me with how much I enjoyed them! Much better than her other recent stuff for me, unfortunately looking at your commentary it was the opposite for you.

If you liked the songs you heard from Taylor's albums, you'll definitely enjoy them in full! That was my particular issue with them, particularly folklore - it wasn't at all bad, in fact, it was very pleasant! But sadly a bit too samey and my attention span is not that good :kink: I think you'd quite enjoy Anson Seabra though again, a little samey perhaps! Last Time and Emerald Eyes are my two favourites from his album.

29 Donna Missal - Lighter | 4-…

30 Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts | 2-4-10-13-15-…

Big albums start to fall out now as the race heats up in an exceptionally high quality top half. In fact, only the bottom 3 albums here didn't make #1! Miley's Plastic Hearts surprised me in a positive way as I'm not her biggest fan usually, but it was a strong, cohesive body of work. Donna Missal was introduced to me as a support act at Lewis Capaldi (my final gig pre-covid :( ) and I really enjoyed her set! Her album was very good too, her voice is brilliant. Carly's Dedicated Side B was better than the parent album in my opinion! We then start to lose #1s from established artists like Ellie Goulding and Declan McKenna who, while making strong albums, didn't quite match up to previous efforts in my opinion (I think Declan faltered by releasing the best songs pre-album :kink:). Ariana and Meghan both added another #1 album to their tallies this year, while Niall became the first 1D member who isn't called Harry to top my album chart. Trevor Daniel's Nicotine scored three weeks at the top in the middle of the year, and Louise's comeback album was a surprise smash early in 2020.

I'm listening to the Anson Seabra album now since you mentioned it, it's sounding quite nice! I do like Last Time, When It's Over has just been on and that sounded very good as well. I get what you mean about it being a tad samey though, although I guess that's a common occurence with albums nowadays.

Glad you were enjoying it!! Last Time will be featuring in my songs countdown later on

~how i'm feeling~ far too low

Heartbreak Weather and Zeros though

5SOS returned with another great album in 2020, but releasing the same week as Dua Lipa meant they missed the #1 spot for the first time in their career. Boybands book-end this section in fact, with New Hope Club at #11 with their debut self-titled release. In-between, we see two debut albums - one from Astrid S, whose long-awaited debut release was a really strong, tight effort which sadly got caught up in a busy week, and HRVY's cancelled album, answers on a postcard as to how that appears here x There's also albums from established artists such as Paloma Faith, who adds a brilliant album to her already remarkably strong discography, Selena Gomez, Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry and Little Mix, as well as Annie's first album in 11 years, the dramatic, moody Dark Hearts, a contrast to the poppy, Girls Aloud-esque Don't Stop from 2009!

Alec Benjamin - These Two Windows

Ava Max - Heaven & Hell

Conan Gray - Kid Krow

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

Lady Gaga - Chromatica

Melanie C - Melanie C

Reed Deming - Second Life

Shawn Mendes - Wonder

The Kid LAROI - F*CK LOVE (SAVAGE)

The Vamps - Cherry Blossom

Rooting for Ava, Dua and Gaga in the top 10 *.*

Favourites outside of that: Little Mix, Ariana (:o :o :kink:), Taylor x2, Jessie Ware + ofc Troye in EPs <3 need to check out 5SOS + Miley's based on what I've heard :o

Troye at #1 in the EPs chart  It's such a fantastic project. I wouldn't be mad if he did a Blue Neighbourhood with his next album, in terms of having these EP tracks included on it! The only other EP I heard is Lauv's, which was very pleasant.

41-50: The only album I've heard in this section is BLACKPINK's, which had a couple of stand out tracks on it, but overall I wasn't blown away. Shame on me for not getting around to hearing/watching Mariah Carey's Magical Christmas Special

31-40: I had to spend quite a bit of time with both Taylor albums in order for the tracks to stick out individually for me, but that did eventually happen - so many moments across the two albums stand out to me as being brilliant  If you'd told me in 2017 that a Steps album would make a future EOY... *_* I'm glad you quite enjoyed it! Lauv's album has some great moments on it, but it suffers a bit from being long, to the point I've never truly got to grips with all of it.

21:30: Carly  Such a strong album considering it's a collection of songs not considered strong enough or to have the right sound for the main album! Ariana's album is slowly growing on me... I've not spent as much time with it as most of her previous albums. Niall's album was a nice surprise for me, a handful of bops *.*! Wonderful #pippa to see Louise this high up too, simply a really great pop album.

Kylie, HRVY and 5SOS missing the top 10, we don't stan :frankie:

Rooting for Shawn (obviously), but Dua and Gaga to be up there too please :cheer:

10 Ava Max - Heaven & Hell | 1-3-6-7-8-10-11-12-13-15-x

Ava Max had built up a really solid run of singles by the time Heaven & Hell finally came out, so I was excited for the album. I wasn't really expecting anything more than a fun collection of pop music, and that's exactly what we got. Ava actually seems to know exactly what type of music she wants to make, and sure, she's not broken any moulds, but I don't think music has to. Ava knows her way around a hook and delivers an album where almost any song could be a potential single - that's a rare achievement!

9 The Vamps - Cherry Blossom | 1-3-4-7-9-9-12-14-14-5-7-…

The Vamps claimed my EOY #1 album of 2014 with debut release Meet the Vamps, and of course, they've solidified themselves as one of my favourite artists since then. Cherry Blossom is quite an interesting turning point for them, as it moves away from the slight trend-chasing vibe of the two Night & Day albums towards a more pop-rock sound. The result is their most cohesive effort since the debut, and though I don't think its highs quite match the highs of the past few albums, it makes for a really strong listen in both the uptempos and ballads.

Really great album choices here - I completely forgot Kesha and Lauv's albums were from 2020 :o Carly's is another real highlight for me, it easily overshadows Side A. Jessie Ware, Miley and Ava were also nice surprises, I'm looking forward to seeing where Dua and Conan end up!

Thanks so much for the reply, Ansel! The albums from early 2020 feel SO long ago!

8 Reed Deming - Second Life | 2-2-1-2-2-4-6-7-9-10-11-14-x

I've been a fan of Reed Deming's since 2014, the year he released his second EP Satellites, and I've enjoyed his material since to varying degrees. Finally, in 2020, after getting married and divorced by age 21, Reed made his first studio album. It's his strongest material since the Satellites EP, and a firm step into adulthood. It spawned the single Overthinking, which became his biggest hit since 2014 #1 hit Satellites, and topped my album chart in its third week of release, spending its first five weeks in the top 2.

7 Shawn Mendes - Wonder | 1-2-2-3-…

There was a lot of excitement when Shawn Mendes announced his new album a few months back, because each release of his had been getting better and better. This is true of Wonder, which is perhaps slightly hindered by its recency in this countdown (I'm a little sceptical to place anything too new too high, because it's hard to know how well it'll hold up!). Nonetheless, the album saw Shawn experiment a little, with bops in the form of Higher and Teach Me How to Love, while songs like Call My Friends and Piece of You see Shawn playing with elements of production we've never heard on his previous, more acoustic-leaning albums. The singles, while both are great, don't do this album justice in my opinion!

6 Melanie C - Melanie C | 1-1-4-5-6-8-11-12-14-x-3-6-…

2020 was a chance for me to familiarise myself with some artists I enjoyed but wasn't completely clued up on, and the biggest beneficiary of that was undoubtedly Melanie C. I love the Spice Girls and I enjoyed what I knew from her solo career, but didn't realise just how GOOD she was! The new era was a very exciting one, too, because Melanie found herself getting comfortable with a dance-pop sound. Lead single Who I Am set the tone perfectly for future singles Blame It On Me and In and Out of Love, and the latter could easily slot into Dua's Future Nostalgia album. There's still some potential singles left too, in the form of Good Enough and Overload. Melanie really delivered her best solo album in 2020!

5 Lady Gaga - Chromatica | 2-2-2-1-3-4-4-7-8-8-8-9-11-13-10-11-11-13-13-13-x

I've been a Gaga fan for years now, but Chromatica was undoubtedly the most hyped I've been for a new album from her. On the face of it, that looks unusual, because I didn't truly love Joanne, and I hadn't heard most of the A Star Is Born soundtrack at the time, so what marked the turnaround? The strong single choices were what did it - Stupid Love was an excellent introduction to the era, before Rain On Me cemented itself as Gaga's best single yet. With all of this going for it, Chromatica had a lot to live up to, and it managed it. It barely stops from the moment you press play, and that's just what I needed from a pop album in 2020. It provides perfect escapism, making Chromatica a state of mind where you can dance all night long. It defined my spring, right from my very first play at midnight on release day with a group of Buzzjackers - Haus, Rob, Jay and Lotti!

Future Nostalgia is my favourite album in your top 10 so I'm delighted that it's still to come
