138 NEW Olivia Rodrigo - All I Want

Never heard of Olivia before but just taking a listen now and it's really rather nice, I'd be more than happy for this to do well

Insane for Olivia :o I’d never heard of her until yesterday and now she seems to have a lot of social media buzz, good for her!

‘Save Your Tears’ climbing

Everyone thinks it's amazing and I just can't get into it the same way.

I want to love it but (shoot me) it just sounds very similar and less hit worthy than Billie, Tate etc :(

I actually disagree. I think this sounds a lot more accessible than Billie & Lorde. I think where them 2 are more indie darling-esque, Olivia straddles the commercial appeal line perfectly with this, so I think it's got a wider audience.

Whether this translates into more for her, I'm not sure. She could just as easily be as irrelevant as Rachel Platten was after 'Fight Song' for example or she could go the way of Billie/Lorde and form a decent career for herself.

Either way, I'd probably say she's gonna be the first "Disney/young star" of the new generation. Probably the Ariana/Selena/Demi/Miley equivalent.

Zara will be dropped soon I’m sure...

She has promoted everywhere and she just can’t get any sort of hit anymore.

That Olivia Rodrigo song will debut at #1 in the UK official chart won't it? I can see why its popular but I am not really a fan of it myself. Its a bit too slow and drawn out for me.

She needs to release a dance artist collaboration I reckon.

I've just had a look back, if we're being strict, the last female artist to get a #1 with their debut single was Meghan Trainor in 2014! Rachel Platten, Ava Max and Tones and I all reached #1 with their breakthrough hits but none of those songs were their debut singles (though I suppose All I Want means this isn't Olivia's either really).

If we expand to all artists we only have to go back to Jawsh 685 :magic:

what was Ava Max debut single? it wasn't Sweet but Psycho?

'My Way' and 'Not Your Barbie Girl' were both released before SBP, she had quite a few dance features as well.

She has a couple of singles on iTunes from before Sweet But Psycho, called My Way and Not Your Barbie Girl!

I hope Adele or another big female act surprise releases next week... January being full of #1 singles by women (is Wham this year or last year? Are they officially considered the first #1 of 2021?) would be amazing to see *.*

EDIT: Although if Olivia manages to hold up, I'd be fine with her securing 3-4 weeks+!

Wham! were #1 on the chart dated 7th January (announced on 1st January) so a case could definitely be made for them being the first #1 of 2021, though every day of sales + streams for that week (25th - 31st December) was in 2020 so it counts to the 2020 EOY. Basically, up to your own interpretation!

Not your barbie girl should of been a hit
