'Slow' is probably still way off, perhaps just over 170k now. :(

Wow I didn’t realise Dancing had outsold Slow!

Thanks Liam - any idea if Tomcraft will get there sometime?

I think this one might have been an oversight from the BPI. 'Loneliness' originally sold 128k in 2003 and as of June 2008 was on 156k, so it seems odd that it's still under 200k 13 years later.

Tomcraft definitely sticks out like a sore thumb on that list - oversight or not, it to get certified post-haste pls x (same for 'Radio')

'Don't Stop Me Eatin'' got more than 75% of the way to silver certified in just one week so I feel like it surely must have a good chance of eventually scraping past the mark even with its consumption obviously falling off multiple cliffs beyond week 1.

Sam & Mark's cover of 'With a Little Help From My Friends' is probably the slowest selling on the list (I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't even at 100k yet, despite selling 94k in 2004), but Busted's 'Who's David?' (73k in 2004) and McFly's 'Baby's Coming Back' / 'Transylvania' (51k in 2007) are probably still below it in terms of overall sales.

As for which song could be next in line to be certified, these songs all sold 100k+ by the end of their release year:

167k Wishing on a Star

167k Don't Stop Me Eatin'

156k Islands in the Stream

154k A Bridge Over You

142k The Masses Against the Classes

141k It's Chico Time

130k What a Wonderful World

128k Loneliness

113k Never Gonna Leave Your Side

110k We Built This City (as of first week of 2019)

110k I Love Sausage Rolls

109k Walk This Way

103k You Said No

102k You'll Never Walk Alone (second week of release)

As I posted before, Kylie's 'Slow' is probably on 170k now after selling 90k in 2003, but I estimate its weekly sales as barely 200 copies so it's still years off a Silver certification. Not sure how well remembered 'The Masses Against the Classes' is but it could potentially beat one of those charity singles to Silver.

'Finally' sold 142k in 1992 (+ ~20k in 1991); ~562k in total.

'Don't You Want Me' sold 170k in 1992; 370k in total.

'Sweet Home Alabama' sold 300k pre-1994; 1.5m in total.

'You Got The Love' charted at #95 for 1 week in 1986 before re-entering in 1991 when it sold 210k; 810k+ in total.

Great to see 'PSYCHODRAMA' going platinum <3 just in time for the follow-up. Also yay for a certification for 'White Winter Hymnal', probably still my favourite song from Fleet Foxes.
Uncertified #1 Singles (21st Century):

Tomcraft - Loneliness (2003)

Kylie Minogue - Slow (2003)

these two not being certified is a CRIME!

I don't believe Sam & Mark has ever been released digitally, so possibly it will be the only one of the list to never get there?

Yeah, it certainly is not on Spotify. I can’t see some of the others which are available ever picking up enough sales/streams to get there (e.g. islands in the stream, it’s Chico time) so will have company for a good while.

Hopefully Slow will get some 20 year celebrations in 2023 to push it over the threshold.

If “Right Here” had sold 210k in 1993 how is it only just been certified Silver now?
only post 1994 sales are counted towards certifications as that’s when the current compilers took over
Woah I had no idea Let Me Down Slowly was on the cusp of platinum!! :o That's amazing! Its top 40 run always felt way too short-lived.

Love it! This proves that its low peak was unjustified.

I mean it would’ve been awarded Silver in ‘93 wouldn’t it? So we’d have to wait for it to pass 400k since ‘94 for its next certification which would be Gold.

You had to apply for certification back then so if the record company didn't then it wouldn't have been certified.

Ah! Thank you.
